May 2016 Starters-Anyone?

Anyone interested in going through the journey together that started in May? I'm on day 6. Would love to have a group with others that started close to me.

The first two days were so hard but I made it through. Already feeling so much lighter. I have found the food to be good and I liked most everything I tried. Made my first omelet this morning and it was so big with lots of vegetables!

Looking forward to meeting other May starters!:)

Kayweight 05-30-2016 06:09 PM

Hi there! I have recommitted after starting in January but not loosing anything since March (maintained thank God - despite continuous cheats). Congrats on making it past the first three days!! Woohoo!

Some others are in the Memorial Day to July 4th Challenge. Please consider checking that post out and maybe joining :)

CEN 05-30-2016 07:57 PM

imfree- I just started at the beginning of May. I just had my week 4 weigh in and I'm down 21 lbs. Sometimes it's hard to stay on tract but it's totally worth it. Pre-planning and making sure I always have something in my purse has really saved the day for me many times. I also always make myself drink a bottle of water first before I have something off plan and so far it has kept me from having any cheats. I still have about 110 pounds to lose so I know the large amount I need to lose is definitely letting me lose big in the beginning but it is so great to finally see the scale move. Good luck this first week!

imfree 05-30-2016 08:41 PM

Kayweight- I joined the Memorial Day challenge and am excited about that. Good job in not giving up!

CEN- What an amazing loss! You're doing great! I am so happy with my progress so far and it's nice to have the initial few days of intense hunger over. I'm feeling great now! Thanks for your tips.

SE72 05-31-2016 12:41 PM

Hi, I started April 22nd and had my week 5 weigh in a few days ago. I'm averaging about 3 pounds a week in weight loss. I didn't start in May, but close. Welcome!

imfree 05-31-2016 07:34 PM

SE72- I would be thrilled to lose 3 pounds a week! Good job! I just had my first weigh in for week one and down 7.6 pounds! I know it's a lot of water weight, but still very happy to see the scale moving. I hope I can have the same success you have had.

I like to come on the forum when I'm tempted to eat. It's a great inspiration to read posts like yours!

elletea 05-31-2016 09:15 PM

Just started

Hi Everyone, I had my first ideal protein day today... But only 4 days til my week 1 weigh in. Like imfree... I am hoping to come here for support when temptation calls. My Aunt is almost to level 2 after losing 75 pounds. It was so motivating to see her completely change both her appearance and health. I am pumped and want what she has!!! So ready ...!!!

imfree 06-01-2016 07:44 AM

elletea- Good for you! Remember the first few days are the hardest. Get through that and you are on your way. You can do it! So inspiring to hear about another success story with your Aunt!

CarrotsAreMyLife 06-01-2016 08:33 AM

You are doing great, ellatea! As said above, these first few days are the toughest but then it's smooth sailing! I've been on plan almost 2 months and have lost almost 40lbs. This way of eating is amazing, I'm still in shock. Your aunt's story is so great!

Join us over on the challenge we started this week, it's really motivating!

Let us know if you have questions too. :)

Manicjonah 06-01-2016 02:06 PM

I started in May too, I started on 5/17 and I've lost 19.2 lbs so far and 9 inches. id love to go through the journey with some people!

Osomom 06-02-2016 12:39 PM

That's a tremendous start Manicjonah! I started 5/20. I have lost 9lbs and 8 inches. I would like to lose at least 60lbs. Hopefully this summer flies by (along with the weight!!). Kind of nervous because I hear of a lot of people gaining the weight back, but I suppose that happens. But I figure it is better to lose the weight and try to maintain it. That is one of the things that I liked about IP that they teach you how to maintain it in the end and don't just throw you out there.

MaryCorrina 06-02-2016 02:54 PM

I just started May 30th. I tried IP in just a couple days before January, but with the "oh a little more coffee with a little more milk won't hurt" and alternatives it just wasn't working for me (all my fault of course) I'm almost done my second week. I feel this time I just had this light bulb go off and already within the 2 weeks I haven't really thought about food or used food as an escape. It's been awesome. I 100% know that I'm breaking my addiction to food and realizing that there are way more important things out there then stuffing my face day in and day out...lol Happy Journey to all my fellow IP'ers!! :)

Positraction 06-02-2016 04:03 PM

Hi there! I started on May 4th. Just had my week 4 weigh in and am down 15.2 lbs for the month. Still struggling to stay on track, but with all of your help, hoping to make it through. I've got a lot more to lose, so I'm glad to have others to share with while on this journey!

You are doing awesome!

What helped me stay on plan (not directed at you, just newbies like you and me :) ), I read some posts about getting kicked out of ketosis. I wanted to know what it meant physically/mentally/etc. It looks like it's about 3 days loss of fat burning while we get ourselves back on track while still eating IP food.

My meal replacements cost about $13 a day plus the veggies/protein. I don't want to waste that money! Im literally using the actual cost of the diet as incentive. $39 wasted (i.e. 3 days getting into ketosis again) isn't worth it to me, esp since it also extends out my "getting to goal" date. I want to be there asap!

Just kinda thinking out loud here. :)

imfree 06-03-2016 06:56 AM

Positraction- Way to go! Never, ever give up! You've done great to lose that much weight this month. You have worked hard and succeeded. Keep going! Some days are harder than others. It's so nice to be able to come here and look at successes like yours when I'm having a hard moment, wanting to eat off plan.

Kellyc14 06-03-2016 09:31 AM

Carrots- I am the same as you, I use the cost of IP to keep me on track. I am literally throwing my money away when I cheat and it's just not worth it. Well, actually the past few months if I cheated I would just stop eating IP foods all together and try again the next week!!! NOT GOOD!!!

For me it's a "head" thing and I do believe that my head is finally back in the game. Thank you dear Lord!!! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get back on track. I'm even taking my supplements, that is good for me. I am doing it for my health this go around. Of course I want to lose weight and fit back into the clothes I was able to wear last summer, and then have those be too big! But ultimately, I want to be healthy. I want to see my grandkids grow up, I want to be able to enjoy them and play with them. I work with disabled individuals and it's an eye opener when I go to a client's home and find out that they are younger than me. This one in particular got the way she is because she has diabetes and she didn't take care of it. It's very sad. And preventable.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Positraction 06-03-2016 04:10 PM

Thank y'all for the words of encouragement. I've been heavy my whole life, so I don't have a point of reference for being slim and fit in my body. A large part of the struggle is definitely a mental, mind over matter sort of thing. Eating in social situations is still a bit depressing to me, but I'll get over it. I just need to come back here to keep my motivation up! :)

canadjineh 06-03-2016 04:16 PM

Here's a helpful thread to keep on plan... and I will bump it to front page for ease of search. Oops cant bump it as it's closed to comments now, but someone can always start a new 100%'er thread. Anyhow, it's a good read and there are 35 pages if you are really obsessed, lol.

GroovyCheri 06-06-2016 01:02 PM

I started IP on May 21. My weight-loss goal is to lose 30 or 35 pounds. My health goal is to lower my cholesterol and reduce my risk of heart disease. I've had good success on Weight Watchers in the past and was down to (and sometimes a smidge below) my goal weight ... and maintained for a few years. I took up running around that time, too, and eventually ran some 5Ks, 10Ks, and a half-marathon in 2013. But, I eventually let a whole bunch of life situations (surgery, foot injury, work/life stress) derail me from health. So, I decided to try IP and I hope the phases and the process and the coaching will help me learn how to maintain better. With WW, I didn't really know how to maintain ... particularly as my activity increased or decreased. It wasn't clear to me how much more (and of what type of foods) I should eat when my running was at peak - and then how to adjust when all that came to a halt due to surgery & injury.

Okay, enough history :)

I lost 7.2 pounds in the first two weeks ... but after the initial 5 pounds, the scale didn't move for 5 or 6 days. I was following the protocol (no cheats), so that was perplexing and a bit depressing. I had hoped for a bit more loss on the front end. I kept encouraging myself by reminding myself that the weight-loss was a healthy weight-loss (vs. unhealthy loss of muscle).

I'll also note that I was still battling a respiratory infection when I visited my health coach for the initial consultation (a Wednesday). So, she encouraged me to wait to actually begin the program until I felt better. I left with my food and wasn't sure exactly what day I would start. I decided to start on Saturday. I was still under the weather, but I figured I'd rather start it on a weekend (even if under the weather) than a workday. I didn't struggle too much with hunger ... in fact, it was quite difficult to fit all the veggies into the day. I have since figured out the best way to spread out my veggies, my own protein, and the IP products throughout the day. Now when I get hungry, it is because it is time to eat :-) I was a bit tired that first week, but is hard to tell if that was from having been sick or the program or both.

I'm really hoping this next week shows a bit more progress on weight-loss.

Oh, somewhat funny story. A week into the program, I had to mow my yard (push mow; not self-propelled; some slope). Not normally a fun job anyways, but tolerable. Except, I nearly fainted half-way through. MyFitnessPal says I burned around 460 calories mowing (which was 460 calories I didn't have to spare). I was staying hydrated, but at that point I went in to fill up my water bottle again and I added the IP salt (which I should have done with the first bottle). I also had one of the lighter IP products for breakfast. I shared this with my coach who said next time I could have an extra IP product on days I mow (or 2 HB eggs, or 3 oz. of lean protein). I did end up eating a bit extra lean protein that first day, but I was still pretty much wiped out and zonked by 7PM that night. I'm happy to report that the second time I mowed (yesterday) it went much better. I had a heartier IP breakfast (a restricted item), stayed hydrated with the salt-water (add some lemon juice for flavor), and had a wildberry yogurt shake as soon as I came in (to replenish).

I wish you all the very best and I'm looking forward to cheering and encouraging each other through progress and challenges!

imfree 06-06-2016 06:46 PM

Nice to meet you GroovyCheri. Those days are hard when things don't seem to be moving down. But you know the scale will eventually move again, so stay with it. This is a marathon, not a sprint!

Congrats on your weight loss so far!!!

SMNoll 06-06-2016 06:54 PM

Hi everyone, I just had my consultation today, 6/6/2016 and plan on starting this journey tomorrow. I am excited, yet a bit nervous about it all. Please wish me luck! I will try to post my progress.
Thanks!

RealNatalia 06-06-2016 08:44 PM

Well, WI today. Good news and bad news.
The bad news is I feel like such a slow loser compared to others! My gosh people smaller than me pulling in first week numbers of 15# 😳😳😳

The good news is, I'm down another 2.25# and the best part??
I'm only 0.21lbs from onederland! I will never again be in the 200's! Weight today 200.2
😃

imfree 06-06-2016 09:43 PM

RealNatalia, wonderland feels so good! I just got there recently! Good job!

SMNoll, just remember the first few days are pretty hard. But it's crazy how much easier it gets after that, so hang in there! Good for you for getting going.

My weigh in day is tomorrow so I'll report how things went then. I was down 7.6 my first week (last week). It's getting easier as time goes on. Now and then I have a hungry day, but most days are good. Something that has helped me is to stop eating after 6. It's freeing really!

Everyone, keep going!!!!!

You are doing great! You are losing, that is the goal! You can't compare yourself to others, or you will always be disappointed. My first go around I lost 11 lbs the first week. This time I lost 5.6. I'm good as long as I am losing! Of course I would like it to go faster (I sure can pile it on fast!!) but I am losing and that is what matters.

One weird thing I have noticed about me, I tend to drop a bunch at one time, like over night and then I stay at that number and drop a few again. It's like my body does it's best to hold on to the weight until it is forced to let it go!
It's really weird. I have been having a great week, a 100% week, but my scale hasn't budged. My scale reads 195.3 and has been that for the past 4 days. Yet I KNOW that I have lost weight. So i'm positive that in the next day or two I will step on it and it will be 192 or 193. I weigh less on my scale than I do at the clinic, so the number in my ticker is what I weigh at the clinic.

:wel3fc:

SE72 06-07-2016 01:30 PM

Kellyc14, you are SO right on not comparing yourself to others. I had just under a 3 pound loss my first week and I'd see so many people with 7+ pound losses that first week. Some weeks I've lost less than 2. Other weeks, I've lost 4 or 5 and I'm averaging out to 3 pounds a week which is awesome (better than anything ever kind of awesome). I'm definitely like the tortoise in a race- slow and steady, but going!

Kellyc14 06-07-2016 03:26 PM

SE72 Exactly! ANY Loss is a GOOD Loss!! :carrot: You have to look at the big picture. Week 1 you may lose 3 lbs, week 2- 1 lb, week 3- 2 lbs, and week 4- 3 lbs- that averages out to 9 lbs a month, 18 lbs in two months 27 lbs in three months. Doesn't look so bad when you look at it like that!!

imfree 06-07-2016 09:37 PM

2nd Weigh in today was down 3. 6 lbs! Continuing on now for my third week. Very happy!

GroovyCheri 06-08-2016 12:13 PM

Congrats, imfree! ... and thanks for your encouragement!

Welcome SMNoll and RealNatalia!

Thanks to all for the encouragement about not comparing to others. I was falling into that mindset as well. I had much bigger expectations for my first week or so based on what I had heard others lost on IP over that period of time. I want to see that needle move a bit faster, but I will work on being happy that my choices are good and healthful ones and that will ... and that will eventually reveal itself one way or another.

My coach only does measurements once per month. My measurements will take place next week, so hoping I see good results there, too. I can say that I have more energy now and sleep a bit better. I'm able to wake up and get going in the AMs better than before IP ... even if I stay up until 11PM or later. I very much appreciate that progress. I also used to drink an INSANE amount of Diet Pepsi per day (probably over 4 liters a day) ... so that's saying alot about the program that I feel BETTER in the AMs with NO CAFFEINE whatsoever at all.

Keep up the great work all!

Positraction 06-08-2016 09:22 PM

Weighed in today. Down 2.8 pounds. Lost another inch from my chest, but nowhere else. Not sure where the weight loss is coming from, since I'm not losing inches really, but I guess I'll take it!

imfree 06-08-2016 09:41 PM

Way to go Positraction! Great to be heading downward! Keep up the great work.

Ashlynn75 06-08-2016 10:47 PM

I started in May too. May 25. Just had my second week weigh in yesterday. Down 10lbs., 7 inches in two weeks. It's not easy. But the cost and knowing people who have lost a lot of weight on this program keeps me focused. Onto week three

Manicjonah 06-15-2016 03:00 PM

Yesterday I had ,y 4th weigh in (one month on Ideal Protein) I've lost 26.2 lbs!!! im so excited by this!!! :)

imfree 06-15-2016 10:31 PM

Ashlynn75 you are doing great!

Manicjonah fabulous loss for a month! It's so inspiring to get both of your updates! keep going and keep posting!

SMNoll 06-22-2016 05:30 PM

Hi everyone! On Tuesday 6/22/16 I had my 2nd week weigh in. Happy to report that I've lost a total of 6.4 pounds in those 2 weeks. The first week was 4, 2nd week was 2.4. I was kind of hoping it would be more (as some report incredible losses in the first few weeks), but soon realized that everyone is different. I can definately tell it in my clothes. I have shorts on right now, and they are very loose! YAY!
I still need to lose about 20 more pounds and am going to keep going. I do have an issue comin up. On 7/08/16 I leave to spend a week with my family and am staying at my sister's house. There will be wine involved, as well as some eating out and stuff. Not sure how to explain things to my sister and what "supplies" of IP to take along. Any ideas?

explore 06-22-2016 06:54 PM

SMNoll- Great job so far! That is a terrific weight loss in 2 weeks. When you go to your sisters house, you can say you are on a strict eating regime of eating clean. In the past I found IP extremely easy to stick with when I was traveling. There are so many products that are easy to travel with. The bars travel well, and I had the drinks that you just add water to. The RTDs are also easy and yummy.

RealNatalia 06-25-2016 04:28 PM

You could go one of 2 ways. You could do as suggested above, which so early on is probably best , or if you're dead set on drinking, you can have 2 real (but not high carb) meals a day and 2 packets.
The key is not to make a big deal about it, the more you do the more your fMily will try to convince you to eat off plan.
I'd also bring enough on plan food so your family won't have to make special accommodations . Lots of veggies and natural protein! When u fill on that the rest falls into place. And remember the groggy gross bloated feeling that comes from eating crap.

GroovyCheri 09-05-2016 05:09 PM

We're about four months out and thought I would say "Hi" and see how folks are doing. I'm very close to my goal and decided to start phasing off. I'm in Phase II now and will be on it a little longer than the 2-weeks because I am having some minor surgery. Will start Phase III after. I've been surprised that I've been able to stick to the program with minimal deviation (i.e., cheating) even while traveling (by plane and by car). It takes prep, creativity, and/or special requests at restaurants, but it is very doable! For restaurants, I can get an idea of their basic meats, etc., from the menu and I just request the meat broiled, baked, or grilled (i.e., fish, seafood, sirloin, chicken) and order a simplified salad or healthy sides (broccoli, asparagus, green beans, etc.).

I hope you all are making good progress as well and are enjoying your summer!

canadjineh 09-07-2016 04:59 PM

Nice work GroovyCheri! And you have the trick to maintenance, there is nothing wrong in asking for your restaurant meal to be made the way you like it. After all, you are paying for it. Due to serious allergies I have always had to ask to have my restaurant meal specially prepared; you get used to the idea, and yes, there will always be some restaurants you just can't go to because they have NO healthy options at all. That's a very small number though.
You will get to learn who the good chefs are.... anyone can hide mediocre food under fancy sauces, but it takes a really good chef to make a simple meal outstanding.

Manicjonah 09-08-2016 04:03 PM

Im still hanging in there. got weighed this last Sunday and I was down 59.4 pounds and Ive only been doing this for 3.5 months. I feel great. I still have another 40 to get to my goal of 100 lost and then another 24 to get to my goal of 150. But honestly its the first time ever that I have faith that I WILL accomplish these goals. Im at 213 right now..almost to ONEderland. im getting there!

SE72 09-12-2016 04:44 PM

I started at the end of April. Still going strong. Wearing my 12's and some 10's. Got rid of everything over a size 12. My waist went from 38.5 to 32. Almost down 50 pounds and a little more than 30 to go. I was hoping to be there by November, but likely it won't be until the end of Dec or January, but I'm going!
