2014 Starters Continue in 2016
Happy New Year Everyone....
2016 is going to be the year I get to goal and stay there.....:carrot::carrot: Make it a great one! |
Thanks for the new thread, Sue - like Oprah in her new Weight Watchers commercials, I am in with making 2016 'The year of my best body'!!
http://crossfit-93.com/wp-content/up...-9-600x368.jpg |
I had a not so great November and a rough December ... but I am down 6.5 pounds since Dec 26th. A moral victory.
This morning I was at 212, which is within striking distance of my healthy (BMI < 25) weight of 200 lbs. Just have to keep at it. Dang, maintenance is hard! The silver lining is, looking at the big picture, I am still down 114 pounds from my Sept 2014 weight. I am rooting for you SGR and OneUh, keep plugging away at it. https://mindstar.com/scratch/WL_2016_01_01_sm.jpg |
Thanks for starting this new thread. Had a great start in 2015, but fell off toward end of the year. Ready to recommit! Good news is I'm lowere than Jan 1 2015 weight.

You can find my post in the 2015 Starters thread. I shared this info because the whole process of finding a maintenance approach that works for us is such a challenge. It's very individual, I think, and what works for others may not work for me or you... then again, learning from others can be helpful to us as we try to find our best path forward. Anyway - you have been so thorough and attentive to details as you have lost more than 100 lbs that I know you have what it takes to meet this challenge, too. And I hope you will share with us all what you learn in your search for the maintenance approach that fits your needs. I know you can do this!!! And Sue and I can make it through our hurdles to get to goal too! Happy New Year! http://www.happynewyearwishes.org/im...-for-BF-GF.png |
Hi Everyone!
I recognize several of you from my IP journey that started in the spring of 2014. I lost 35 lbs on P1 and then another 10 lbs while finding my balance on P2-early P4. Now, 1.5 years into maintenance, I find myself up that ten extra pounds I lost....and I am ready to get in check before the scale just keeps going up and up. I really just want to lose about 5 lbs...not sure that I want to go back down to my lowest weight. But my some of my pants are too tight to wear -time to reign her in! I am not planning to do P1, but plan to do more of a P3 or strict P4 to get me back on track. There hardest part of losing weight in a 'balanced way' is how much longer it takes to see results. However, I don't want to start having hormone issues or lose my hair like I did on P1. Happy New Year to everyone! |
Welcome back! Seems like I was not the only one struggling the end of the year... Glad to have some familiar faces back on my journey with me.... 2016 will be the year of me and I am still lighter then the beginning of 2015 so yes I am celebrating small victories... The scale not so kind this am and my body not feeling so great from my binge eating yesterday but I am back at it today....

We will make this work!
Bummer for me - DH took another fall - heading for urgent care for an X-ray -- nothing is easy for me lately. Also I think I broke into the 190's - heading the wrong direction at fast pace before getting started on my 2016 reboot. I need to be on IP P1 toute de suite!!!:eek::eek: UPDATE on SAT NITE: yup - after spending all afternoon at the Emergency Room, we have many xrays and scans with no broken bones, but a final CT scan showing DH broke pelvis, and is being admitted back to the hospital tonight. No surgery likely given his age and general condition, so pain management (and I am not sure what else) will be the focus in the hospital... hopefully home for at home PT and whatever. I don't have it in me to do the inpatient rehab a 3rd time in 7 months.... I have come home to get some rest and be up and at the hospital early tomorrow to try to catch up with the 'hospitalist' who will coordinate his care there.... aaaaarrgh! My intent has been to make tomorrow my Day 1 -- not easy when hanging out at the hospital but I will pack up some foods and do my best to get things going. |
Hi everyone:)
OneUh I hope things go better…. just keep going…. this is just a challenging time. Even staying at the up weight is still an accomplishment, and we learn so much even during the gains. I’m adjusting down during Jan. for a mini-reboot but I’m doing it a little like evemomma - kind of an alt P1 - adding a little fat and going for about 1300-1400 calories as I want to keep exercising. I’ll see how it goes - my body just doesn’t seem to do very well in P1 for long - but it likes the alt P1 and not having the higher glycemic carbs. I’ve been doing it just two days but already can feel my body relaxing and losing water retention. |

Cheryl - Ugh! Sorry about your husbands bad news...do what you can as far as food... Hang in there...
for those of you that have been around a while and know my story...DH's PET scan is tomorrow morning and we visit the Dr. On Wednesday. Pray for good news... We are very hopeful that he is in remission... He has none of the pain he initially had so we are hopeful....;) |
It's nice to see some familiar names on here!! I'm back for a reboot to lose the pounds I let myself regain over the past couple of months. I have to say I let myself regain because I consciously chose to indulge. I'm not going to beat myself up over it but instead focus on getting back on track!! I changed my tracker so I can see that I am no longer at my goal weight and I can work towards that goal once again!!
I look forward to coming on here for motivation and hopefully to help motivate others in reaching our goals this year!! |
How encouraging you all are! I am off to the hospital now to see what lies ahead - I just finished some Proti Thin Oatmeal for breakfast and I have quest chips and IP brownie in my bag to provide the 'packets' for the day - I have a constainer of zuke that I cooked in low sodium chicken broth to cover my veggie needs, and salad is available at the hospital cafeteria, so I will be ok for most of what I need. Now I just need to execute the plan.
that quote I posted is so apropos for me today - you don't have to be great to start but you have to start to be great.... thanks for the grand support, everyone!!! I am taking the ipad with me so I will try to check in later... love you guys!!! |
Best wishes One- as you know I spent some time at the hospital recently. P1 can be done, you owe it to yourself to move ahead as planned. Let us know is you need to talk.

Hey guys, I started in July 2014 and lost close to my goal weight. I then had some stomach issues and went off the diet. I spent all last year trying to find a diet that would work for me and ended up just gaining all of the weight back, plus some. I'm here to start anew and recognize some of your names. I was more of a lurker, but y'all really help keep me on track back then. Hope to get to know you better this time around! Oneuh2, you were always so sweet and encouraging to me and I appreciate that so much. I'll be saying a prayer for your husband tonight. Hope all is well.
|
Tanklan, I did the exact same thing as you ... and was able to reboot and lose MORE the 2nd time around. So just keep plugging away at it.
|
Despite the hospital routine and the overall aggravation of another setback with DH due to a fall, I completed Day 1 of reboot on P1! Per the home scale I dropped 2 lbs - love getting up in AM, hitting the bathroom and then heading straight for scale to find a downward movement of the needle.... YAY!!!
:flow2::flow2::flow2::flow2::flow2::flow2::flow2: |
Bravo oneuh2! One day at a time! We can and we will do this together!
|
Nice job Oneuh2! And thanks for the encouragement Avalon1957! After a horrible night, with very little sleep, Day 4 getting started! Might need a nap today!
|
Tanklan I did not get much sleep last night either....as you can see from my last post which I wrote last night....this morning?..124 am...
I could go for a snooze but will have the same problem if I do this. I see you are in South Texas...my parents are in Mission Texas for thr winter months...my mom, who use to love winter, could not take the cold anymore. They have been going to Texas for the last six years. |
Quick check in.... I too am plugging along trying to be as perfect P1 as I can among the stress and busy schedule. Still need to be better, but scale is slowly moving in the downward direction. I can do this....
Cheryl - Hope DH is feeling better.. Results today for DH of PET ... Fingers crossed for good news... |

But per the home scale I am down about 4 lbs - excellent start. Will be glad if the cravings dissipate for me this time as they did when was doing this as a July 2014 starter :D I made up some muffins from the Quest Peanut Butter protein powder today - liked them very much, and I can see why folks seem to like the PB flavor. I have a canister of the Multi Purpose protein mix too - it will help to stretch my vanilla and chocolate IP drink mixes into muffins or cookies that will carry me along on P1. I am SO glad to have held off the gremlins for almost 3 days, and I have posted in My Fitness Pal for 2 days - I go there next when I get off these boards this evening. My idol is JJTx who has posted 500+ days on MFP - I bet her maintenance is going well and hope she will pop in here from time to time. I wonder how the no-gluten life is working out for her... It's good to see some additional action on these boards here at 3FC - some familiar screen names are popping up in various threads - January seems to be when so many people look to get off on the right foot with weight loss - and I know this is the place to be for good, caring support. I hope more of our former compatriots check in - I miss them. Best of luck on the PET scan report, Sue And sorry about the sleep problems Tanklan and Loser13 - this is one problem I do not have - I can sleep anywhere, anytime. My problem is not getting enough sleep - I am a night person, yet I must get up in the AM... I have no good suggestions for you... except recent findings that you need darkness for good sleep - no glowing electronics on the bedside stand... Today is hump day for the M-F world, but tomorrow is hump day for my weight program week - I am using Sunday morning Aria weigh in's as my 'official' ones. I think I am in it for the long haul... ttfn, cheryl |
Is this real? Day 4, and per my Aria, I am down 4.9 lbs!! Am I squarely on the path with a path toward a return to a nice downward slope on my progress graph?
I am feeling more confident every day!! This time I am recording in MFP - I know I need that habit for ongoing success, so I am trying to be religious about it now and build the habit. I even joined a couple of Challenges on MFP that acknowledge the good habit of logging in the food diary. This is a good start to the new year for me -- how is everyone else doing? |
oneuh :bravo::cp::cp:
You're off to a great start, congratulations. Your determination is showing, and inspiring . Doesn't that first woosh feel great! :D You'll be back at goal in no time!! I didn't use MFP when I started, in fact I've only been using it for the last 2 months, and of course we all know the diet works without having to track everything....but I sure wish I had started doing it sooner, there is so much information, and I know it will be invaluable going forward into maintenance |
Hello IP 2014'ers!!!!!
It's fun to see some familar faces from when we were originally in the trenches together! I am cheering everybody on to keep on keeping on!!!!! I was pretty happy to see the scale down 2lbs today...of course, I know it could easily creep right back up with something as simple as too much salt tomorrow, but made me happy anyway. MFP is my all-time favorite, favorite, favorite tool for maintenance. I feel like I REALLY didn't start learning the tools for long-term maintenance until I start entering my food (I started in P2) and learning how to build a healthy meal by understanding what macronutrients made up my food. Although I'm not doing P1, I also was awake at about 4am this morning. I do think it has to do with restricting my calories (or maybe too much caffiene?). When I was on P1 though, I has HORRIBLE insomnia for about the first two weeks. My understanding is that it is one of the side effects of ketosis. Good luck everyone!!!!! |
I am on day 7. So far so good. No hunger and feeling good. Bought some walden farms pancake syrup the other day and can't believe how good it is. Bought quest protein powder yesterday and am going to try pancakes. Assume I can do that with the protein powder.
I am having guests next weekend and somehow have to figure out how to stay on program and still give them a good time. Going to start planning for that. Hang in there everyone. |
Evemomma - so glad to have you share your maintenance experiences with those of us who are still pursuing P1 goals! Thanks for coming back and for doing more than just lurking.
I have no problem sleeping anywhere, anytime, whether in ketosis or not... thank goodness! If I was having sleeping issues right now that would probably put me over the edge - got enough stress with the household medical challenges. Largo - Let us know how your pancakes with Quest work out - I used the Quest PB today to make a dozen muffins - that's the easiest form for me - let the muffin tin shape the outcome, rather than trying for the right consistency for pancakes, or the right flat shape to make cookies. For a breakfast thing that your guests might like, and that would still meet IP P1 guidelines, you could roast some mixed cauliflower, broccoli florets, chopped Lil Sweet peppers (red, orange, and yellow), mushrooms and some elephant garlic -- I use some olive oil spray, real salt, and pepper, and garlic & herb seasoning for flavor. Do this in a 9x13 casserole dish and roast 20-30 mins at 400 degrees. Then add beaten eggs and bake in same oven for another 20-30 mins. It's like a frittata - do two casseroles (divide in half or double) - a big portion for your guests with some shredded cheese added on top for that last 5 minutes. Serve with some bacon or sausage for them, and you just have it as it is. This makes a good dinner entrée for P1, served with a salad. If you can make your own salsa, can buy some without any sugar or other non IP compliant ingredients, that would be another option. I do this at least once a week for myself on IP -- and I think it is super easy and very yummy. When not on IP I luxuriate with some added baby snow peas and some pine nuts.... nom nom :hun::hun::hun: |
Thank you so much Oneuh2. I have actually tried that for my lunches and have been loving it. Would be good for breakfast. The first day they are here we are invited to a pancake breakfast. Not to worry I will take a bar. I have my fist meal planned. Roast pork, roasted veggies and potato scallop. No potato scollop option for me. Now will just plan another dinner. Lunch will be out. Will probably do steak with salad and turnip. They can have potatoes. The trick is the wine but I will just have to suck it up. I have started drinking LaCroix which is a carbonated drink 0,0,0. in a wine glass. Think I have this. I was on IP last year when they came and went off it for the weekend. I really don't want to do this, this time. Thanks for the suggestions.

TGIF for all you non weekend workers LOL... I however am working ...
So fell off the wagon big time and let me emotions get the best of me and ate my way thru the house the last day and a half...Cheryl thanks for pulling me back over the edge.... Back on track today day 1. I hate that I have let the stress of life turn me back to food, but I am so glad I have a program that can easily get me back on track! Cheryl -I know you have mentioned the pancakes before, and the peanut butter sounds delightful...can you share what you do to make them? Off to work today. Busy week next week so I need to do some food prep this weekend so I don't fall off. Bought 2 big cauliflower at Trader Joes yesterday so I plan on roasting that off with some broccoli. Salad stuff is prepped and at the ready to grab and I have to make a run to an IP clinic to get some more food. There is one that I can run to on Saturday morning before I meet my clients.... Have a good day everyone... |
Just updated my stats .... No sense lying to myself LOL.. I will get that number back down under 200 that I fought so hard for last year... This is the year of Me LOL :carrot::carrot:
|
Day 7 finally!!! So happy to make it through my first week back on track! AND, it wasn't so bad! A headache, some lack of sleep, little bit of hunger but not anything that would derail me. I think that New Year New Start feeling is really helping me get going. Kind of like a blank slate and I can make this year what I want. First week weigh in the morning. Looking forward to this one! :)
|
Tanklan - waiting for your WI results with baited breath!!! Week 1 of your reboot -- what will the mystery number be? Tell us!!!
Sue- so glad you getting back on the wagon - I am at Day 5 of my reboot and per my Aria scale I am down 6.8 lbs - that is almost a lb more than I lost the first week of my original P1 on IP! I am encouraged, and as you shed some excess the first week, I know you will be encouraged too. And you have been SO good about hanging in here with the 2014 Starter thread - we have all done such a good job supporting one another, and I am counting on us to continue to do that. You and I are in the throes of emotional stress - big time - - the caregiving role has its moments of thanklessness, and it is excrutiatingly demanding of our psyche as well as our energy and attention. But all that stress that does not make us unworthy of realizing our weight management goals and feeling good about ourselves. There is a lot going on that we cannot control, but this is an area that we CAN control. Let's do it!!! |

Add the wet to the dry, stir and add the amount of water needed to get to the consistency of the item - more water to make it more thin for pancakes, less for muffins I spray muffin tins with PAM, I use spray coconut oil for pancakes or on waffle iron. Bake at 350 for 15 mins.... I touch them to see if they seem firm, and if still a bit jiggly I give them 3-5 more minutes. Lately I have been multiplying this by 4 and making muffins mostly - 3 muffins to a serving - so the quadruple gives me a total of 12 and that carries me through 4 meals (mostly lunches with the muffins). I also am using the Nashua Nutrition Golden Pancakes packets for pancakes - adding shredded zuke or cauli rice quite often. WF pancake syrup of course. And - do a search and you will find a thread just on cauliflower pancakes done just with cauli rice and egg whites -- a great fill in, extra protein item in lieu of an extra packet... good item to have in back of mind at a tough time.... hope this info helps! |
One way yo go on your first week of reboot. Wow! When you use spices are they fresh ground...or the powders?
Tanklan yeah week one done and OP! Bravo! Sue eve. I follwed you girls for some time when I was just a lurker ( boy I hate that word...makes me sound creepy....lol) For me it is day day 15 and my official weigh in for our challenge...still having trouble sleeping. Last night I went to be at ten and fell asleep pretty fast...yeah ( really exausting day at work).. Awake at four this morning...boooooo...i have read lots of places that lack of sleep may hinder weight loss...booooo Have a great day ladies! |
Hi Everyone..
Glad all are doing well with the re-boot! I made it thru Day 1 and am on to day 2... I did not get all my water in yesterday (very busy day on the road) so today that is my goal. I am down on my scale this morning so that is encouraging....Here we come 190's (again) :carrot: Cheryl- Thanks for the pancake info with the powder. I am out of pancake packets and need a run to the IP clinic but that may not happen till next week some time... In the meantime the muffins are a great idea....I used to make the mini muffins all the time with crispy cereal and wild berry drink. You could have 6 per serving! I need to pull out the old IP receipe book I had made and start getting creative again...that really helped me thru the first time... This weekend after work and before hockey, the family plan in to take down the rest of the Christmas stuff and then work on planning out our summer vacation to Hawaii... We have been waiting so long to plan this and even with DH's health up in the air, we are going to do it. This is the one thing DS wanted for his Graduation. This is in lieu of a party. Althought I have come to find out that my CA side of the family all plan to come for Anthony's graduation so I will have to have some sort of food at the house for them, but there will be no big party. |
Sgrealtor1 Hawaii...now that is one motivation for you on your weight loss journey...you will rock those grass skirts (not sure what they are called...)
That water is so important. It must not be easy to be on the road...I would need to stop every 30 minutes to pee...I know I find it very hard when I go out of town and need to drive 4 hours...I need to drink, but don't want to drink since then I need to pee...I never feel great that night nor the next day. Sometimes when I get there I will OD on water but then I need to get up in the middle of the night quite a few times. Day 2 is gonna be a great one for you! |
Hi Ladies! Sorry I have been so absentee. I read daily but posting has been a challenge for me. End and the beginning of the year are crazy times for me at work. By the time I get home, my brain is mush.
Sue and One- thinking of you and your DHs. So hard to watch people we love going through tough times. Maybe IP can be one of those things you can look at as trying to simplify your life during stressful times. I hope you both continue to receive positive health news for your guys. Glad to see the boards more active and so many familiar names! My IP coach posted an article listing the top 25 diets for 2015. IP was #1 on the list. Funny, because most people I know IRL still haven't heard of it. My sister started IP a couple weeks ago so we've spent a lot of time texting. I recommended she start posting here. We'll see. She's got 2 little ones at home and not a lot of extra time. I started my reboot 1/2/16 and am down to less than a pound over my scream weight but I think I am going to stay on P1 for the month of January to really clean up my diet and try and improve not just my weight but BF% and lbs of fat. You may remember me obsessing about those previously (apparently nothing has changed here ;) ). Plus I just feel like my meal planning was just getting sloppy. Too many little cheats here and there make me nervous for my long term success. Being in P1 means I can't workout much more than walking. This will be toughest part of rebooting for me. I am usually at the gym a good 4 days a week. My level of fitness from 6 months ago is significant. It literally killed me to tell my trainer I wouldn't be back until Feb. Geez, when did I actually start liking going to the gym?!? My NY resolutions for the first time in my life doesn't include losing weight (other than to get back to goal from the holidays). That is pretty monumental. Feeling like I can accomplish anything gave me some pause as to what I really wanted to focus on this year. Physically I am still trying to define my goals. Last year was a general "get in better shape and tone up." I feel like I need to be more specific this year. I also decided "fixing broken body parts" should be on the list. I have a planned outpatient surgery to remove a ganglion cyst off the back of my hand in a couple weeks and I made an appnt to finally get my hip checked out that has been bothering me for years (but gotten worse with me working out recently). |
CenTxChk - thanks so much for posting here and for your comments on my MFP - I miss your eating mgmt observations from our prior journeys - you are always so willing to share.
Thanks for the kind thoughts re the DH - this is a tough time right now - I have not been dancing since October, and that's particularly bad because dancing is my primary way to relieve stress. A few minutes of swing or chacha and the worries of the day are gone.... maybe I need to just turn on some music and dance alone at home.... Meanwhile - I am working on busted body parts - I have a pinched nerve that is like sciatica that affects my left leg from buttocks all the way to the ankle, plus I injured that left need when I fell on wet floor at grocery in August, and then I also am getting PT to resolve post op stiffness, soreness, and narrow range of motion since my carpal tunnel surgery in early December. So I am working with the PT and massage therapist on all that stuff, hoping to get all parts in good working order, and at the same time lining up for strength training that I hope will reduce my body fat percentage. At my lowest weight of 156 in July 2015, my fat percent was still 37.... right now it is just over 46 percent. I am a flabby hunk of flesh it seems, and I have not felt or engaged my glutes to do their full job in years. Sitting is a demon -- I need to move and strengthen to offset the effects of decades of a sitting job... sitting has contributed big time to the sciatic pain. My PT says avoid sitting as much as possible... hard to post on 3FC as I like to without sitting, though.... what a trade off!!! Let us know how your work on your goals is going - I'm with ya on those goals, plus offloading the regain and then phasing off as I should. love seeing you back here on the boards!!! cheryl |
