I tried the CC cookie dough Atkins Lift protein bar yesterday, it was not bad. I think the taste will grow on me. I do like they fit unrestricted protocol (except the calories are 200) so because of the calories would you treat it as a restricted?

So do the new Atkins Lift Protein Drinks and bars fit protocol and is that considered a meal????? SOrry, just super confused and tried reading all the threads.

For the cookbook, it's a collection of recipes for Phase 1, some of the recipes use the packets, others are just P1 compliant. They are very good, lots of people really like them for the variety they ad to the diet.

There are also a lot of her recipes there, if you don't want to spend the $$ on the book

You can bake a lot of things with the Quest powder (either plain or flavored - muffins, bread, pancakes, cookies, etc.
You should be able to substitute it for many of the IP packets in recipes, also look in the Alternatives threads, lots of recipes there too.

Yes, the LIFT products fit protocol. Do you have a copy of the sheet that explains what macros make a product fit?

You need three protein packets a day: breakfast, lunch, and snack. Those packets have to have a certain number of calories, fat, carbs, and protein to fit the protocol.

Then you also have to have 8 oz of lean protein (usually meat or eggs) and 4 cups of veggies, and only certain veggies are allowed. Plus a minimum of 64 oz of water.

There is an allowance for other products as long as they have 0 calories, 0 sugars, and 0 carbs. These are usually drink enhancers, sweeteners (Stevia or Splenda), syrups, and salad dressings. Most protocol followers use Walden Farms products because they're 0/0/0.

If you don't have the protocol sheet, let me know. I'll try to find it here or post a new one.

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure the Lift bars/Drinks fit as a Meal. I know the ends and outs of eveything else. I'm almost down 40 on ideal protein. My husband has lost 45!

Oh, okay, great! I have not had the Lift drinks, but the bars are pretty good. For me, a fruit drink would not be satisfying as a meal.

Initial Phase 1 Alternatives
 
I have had an initial informational meeting with a coach and I am talking with my husband about starting IP. I am having a difficult time combing through the millions of posts to find a comprehensive (updated) US list of equal alternative products.

I think my initial plan would be to use their starter pack but then replace at least 1 IP meal with an alternative product (since this is my first go around and I don't want to compromise anything). I was thinking if i could find a replacement ready made drink or a bar that would help offset some of the weekly costs.

Also, do you share you are buying alternatives with your coach?

Hi Bubsalub - and welcome. I understand your apprehension about the cost of IP, it IS $$$. Many people have been successful in following the plan using some alternate products. As far as I know, there is no comprehensive list of alternate products. The important thing is to make sure they fit the protocol guidelines (I'll post that at the end).
I used mostly Ip products in the beginning, then added in some alternates.
You could start with Quest protein powder (available at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, probably other places. It can replace shakes and puddings, and can be used to make cookies, muffins, pancakes, etc (look through earlier pages of this thread for recipes).
For bars, I liked the Proti-thin and Proti-diet bars from nashuanutrition.com, most of them fit IP protocol.
I know it's time-consuming to read through the threads, but start with this one, there are other products mentioned here.
Also, there is A facebook group for IP Alternatives (Ideal Protein Alternatives) that has a lot of good information on products that can be substituted.

As for letting your coach know you are going to be using some alternatives...that can be tricky. Even if your coach is a wonderful person who truly wants to help you get healthy and thin, you have to keep in mind that they are in the business to make money, and where they make it is from the IP products they sell. Your call.

Here are the guidelines:

Here's a detailed breakdown to consider:
- under 160 calories = Unrestricted (though MOST IP packets range from 90-120)
- 160-200 calories = Restricted (once/daily)
slightly over 200 cals (or 30% fat) is super-restricted (once/weekly)
- less than 30% cal from fat (multiply cals from fat x 3; OK if lower than total cals.)
- under 8 g net carbs - unrestricted
- 9g-16g net carbs - restricted
- 17g net carbs - super restricted (only once/twice per week)
- above 17g net carbs is too high to be good for Phase 1
- at least 12-15g protein (don’t go much above 20g regularly)

* NET = Total carbs minus fiber

I have been having peanut butter toast each morning for breakfast with WF peanut butter spread. I have now finished my Quest peanut butter tub. I bought the Cookies and Cream a while ago and haven't used it. Searching this morning for what to do with it, I decided I will make IP ice cream with it. I found an old recipe here for making it in an ice cream maker. This is good because I bought an ice cream maker 9 months ago and have yet to use it. It is a fancy one that has a compressor. It was expensive so it has been a shame that it has sat without use because I keep saying when I get to weight xxx, I'll use it and I wound up never satisfied enough to feel I have reached where I think I need that I can start having maintenance treats using it. So, today I decided to incorporate my new protein powder with doing P1.

I am looking forward to this!

I typically follow the same routine and I am usually quite good with that, but occasionally I want to change things up and I get excited about that which spurs me further on my journey so today is one of those days. This type of stuff make the P1 journey more enjoyable for me which is finding news things to try.

Hey Ro! I have to echo what your saying. I get really excited about new recipes and items. I went out and got 4 mini loaf pans and made "bread/cake" out of the Quest multi-purpose powder, the Quest peanut butter powder and the Chocolate IP drink mix based on the recipe you provided previously. It is really nice to have these pre-made and just grab and go during the busy work week. Thank you!
