Default Weight fluctuation while on IP

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum but I have been reading a lot of your post and they are very helpful. I am in week 9 of the IP program and I have lost 28lbs so far which I am very happy with. I do have a question though...
I always weigh myself at the same time of day before eating anything and I was wondering why they scale would go up sometimes. I know TOM will have that affect but it happened this morning. I weighted in at 201.8 yesterday and today I was 203.2. This is the only part of the diet I find discouraging.
My coach doesn't have many answers to my questions because she is new at this. The doctors office I work at has opened an IP clinic in it and some of the employees are the first to try it. So we are kind of the testers for our coach and we have made a few mistakes along the way. Sometimes I feel like we are being mislead

Oh and how do you get the tracker on the bottom of the post?

Those fluctuations are not unique to this diet. They are a part of weight loss. They are frustrating but are a part of the plan.

Here are some good articles:

There are sooo many variables to consider with weight fluctuations. Things like TOM can affect water retention, sodium levels can cause water retention, if you're working out your muscles could be retaining water to repair, if you still have some, ahem, waste in your body that would be adding weight, and the list goes on. For this reason I choose to only weigh myself 2 times a week, one at my official weigh in (which is at 3:30pm on Mondays) and once in the morning on Fridays (I've always weighed myself first thing in the morning so I use this as a baseline for the weight I'm at and my goal weight). This helps to prevent seeing a lot of those fluctuations.

It's important to not get discouraged. Weight loss isn't linear and you will have fluctuations, the important thing is that the weight will be trending down. Just try to keep a long term mentality and the journey is so much easier.

Ohh, and the tracker isn't available until you've been on the site 20 days and have 20+ posts.

Good resource. I was reading his stuff when it was just online posts on dial up days. I believe the first thing I read of his was actually just a college paper that later became the back bone of one of his books.

My bodyweight can vary up over 10# in a single day depending on many factors. Some of which or waste removal functions. hydration and meal density. Get a consistent routine before weighing. I find it best for me in the morning straight out of the gate. before I eat or drink.
You are typically fasted for several hours so enviromental and biological factors are minimal.
I use to do my official weigh in I was first guy in the door. consistancy on your habit will make the weight on the scale fluctuate less.
I did my restarting weigh in yesterday near 11A and by evening it was 5# different.
I wasn't weighing for progress, just changing the batteries in the scale and making sure all the tools work.

I don't consider any number under a week apart to be much of an indicator. I have weighed myself and gone to bed, woken up 6 hours later and 2Lbs heavier. Just worry about the weekly values and that over a month the trend is downward.

Thank you everyone, I just get stuck on the # sometimes. I have tried to only weigh once a week but it is so nice to see the number go down, it keeps me motivated.

Asexton,

I'm new to IP and I agree with you. The numbers on the scale changing is very discouraging. I'm really trying ONLY to weigh myself once per week. I could weigh myself in the morning one day and be three pounds heavier by the evening. Stick to once per week!

I like to weigh myself in the morning when I have nothing in my system and I think that is my "true" weight because after I've eaten and drank 120 oz of water throughout the day I'm 3-5 lbs more but the next morning my weight is what it was (or lower) the previous morning. As long as I keep losing weight I don't mind fluctuations. Just stick to it and it'll come down again!
