Great timing, Amber! I just returned from a couple of weeks away and am so happy to see you here running! Had our 5K last week and -- though i certainly set no records -- i was so thrilled to do it and felt so accomplished afterward. I ran most (though not all) of the way and did it all pretty slowly. Completed in just over 33 mins, so about an 11-min mile average. I was just happy to have beaten my former time (which was 39 several years ago). I think my next goal will be to beat 30. The best part about the whole experience was doing it with DS and having him be proud of me Am still riding that high all these days later!

Hello to all our other running pals out there!
Mimi! That’s amazing! I LOVE that you did it together with DS - wow. What an amazing life accomplishment.
I registered for one 8 weeks from now, my Couch 2 5K says I can do it in 8 weeks and so does my chiropractor - he actually said he will run it with me! I think a few of my friends will come also. It’s Sat. Sept. 5th - a flat dirt trail and run/walk, so nothing to fear, I’ll just do the best I can. It’s a good starter run for me, I won’t worry about the time, I’ll just finish, but I like how you compete against your last best time, that’s a good goal.
My legs are already sore and I realized that I haven’t done real full on cardio in well over a year (as I didn’t do that during P1) so my lungs were happy today! My back seized just a little but my chiropractor said it will work itself out and not to worry. He helped me through my car accident and all of P1 and knows my body well so I trust him. He said this is a really perfect next step and will really help my body…. so yay!
Did my fourth run last week but then two days later pulled a calf muscle jumping around at a dance party
My physical therapist says hold on running for a week, but “I’ll be back”…. next week!
You won't have lost anything in a week or two out. I found that after six weeks of not running I was still able to run it easily. The body doesn't forget as quickly as you'd think.
Planning on getting back to running once I get the all clear on health.

Great me too!
I used to run cross country - at least an hour a day - until my early 30s and my knees and back started getting upset. Now with the extra weight gone and just going the intervals my body seems to be doing OK…
except for this week I have this sentiment lol:

My favorite shirt to run in says "Run Less Party More"
I spent weeks in Week 6, got super busy for a few weeks, and now I'm back at the gym. I restarted at Week 1 running at my goal speed, so here's hoping I can build it up so eventually I'll be running all 30 minutes at 6 miles/minute.
I pulled a calf muscle so had to stop after a week and a half - I can start again next week some time.
I’ll probably try to start again at week 2 …. I have a 5K in 4 weeks so I might need to walk some of it but I’m fine with that. I’m just glad I set the goal.
I'm not running, yet, but I know that once the challenge of weight loss ends, I will need another competitive goal to keep me on track. I used to run 5 and 10Ks, but began having repetitive stress fractures. Hoping that with my weight down and better nutrition, I can avoid that problem this time around.
I'm currently walking 5 miles/day, 2-3 miles at a time (usually walking twice a day). Once the weather cools down, and my weight gets closer to goal, I want to start the C25K program. Maybe find a 5K to run in November?
I am loving this thread. I began a Cto5k program 3 months ago. My history of running is nil. Always hated it. I would walk the cross country dreaded runs at school. I have no stamina and would get winded after 60 seconds. So I began the running program and on alternate days would walk hills in my neighborhood. I was using the NHS Couch to 5k program app on my ipod. Well I have to tell you, I went from hating hating hating running to absolutely loving it! I got as far as doing the two 10 minute run segments non-stop and felt very accomplished for doing that. But the best part? I felt amazing! I've done plenty of other cardio in the past: step aerobics, Zumba etc, but NOTHING gave me the endorphin high of running! My energy returned, my mood lifted, I slept better and ...... my libido returned! (I am 49 and perimenapausal). I began to buy form fitting comfortable running capris and tank tops because they are more comfortable to run in and for the first time I did not care how my fat 217 pound body looked in them because I was running!
BUT: I was not losing ANY weight and my knees were suffering. The hill walking contributed to the knee pain too. So - I am back on IP to lose weight so I can get back to my running and will run a 5k (my first!) in the Spring or early Summer. Right now I need to focus on my weight, and adjust my eating to improve my whole health. I don't have the energy to run right now. I may try again after the new year, with some more weight off me, along with an extra packet and see how that goes. My knees were telling me to lose some pounds so I have to. I am (was) using a mid foot strike and I can attest it is easier on your knees so I highly recommend that method to others.
So I love this thread. It gives me a lot of motivation. I WILL get back and complete the program! And I will shout it out loud and clear when I complete my first 5k! BECAUSE I LOVE RUNNING!!!!
