Lisa - I had a question for you (i know you'll level with me). Today marks day 5 of IP reboot and I have only dropped 1lb. Starting to go into panic mode that the plan won't work it's magic on me.. I need you to remind me that I'm being silly and that this is normal (hoping it's normal). I'll be drinking extra water today and every day until body registers that I'm trying to let go of this weight!
Tried a recipe with the potato puree the other night. I guess I just can't eat that packet, yuck, nothing makes it taste good even the tried and true recipes from this forum.
Have to say one of the things I miss most is my fat free caramel machiato (sp?) creamer in my coffee each morning. One day I'll have it back but will dial back how much I use for sure.
My daughters (17 & 14) are being very supportive of my new lifestyle. They went from "OMG you can't have bread" to "you are doing great mom"!
Hello! I started IP in 2013 and lost about 40 pounds leading up to my wedding. At said wedding, I broke Ideal Protein, and I've never fully gotten back on it. I've stayed lower carb more than ever before, but I'm not nearly to plan.
So, today is the first day back. My mini-goal for the day is just a 100% day. Not looking any further ahead than that.

Welcome Rita. That is a very good strategy. Living in the moment instead of looking too far ahead. A lot of us would do better if we take one day at a time

It took me a long time to figure out a recipe that I liked using the potato puree. The strength of the seasoning was too much for me to eat it straight, so I started experimenting with mixing it with other packets. I now use half a potato puree and half a plain pancake packet to make English muffins, which I use as sandwich bread. The flavors in the potato puree are toned down so that there is just enough savory-ness without being overpowering and it adds a nice texture that I didn't get from using just a pancake packet.
IP English Muffins (adapted from Rainbow's recipe)
1/2 packet pancake mix
1/2 packet potato puree
1/4 tsp. salt
3/8 tsp. baking powder
1 egg (I use the whole egg and skip the oil that Rainbow added, but you could use just the white and add 1-2 tsp. olive oil)
enough water or milk to make it a thick but pourable batter
Mix all ingredients and pour into two egg rings in a pan over very low heat. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes. When the muffins are set enough to release from the rings, remove, turn over, and cook for about 5 more minutes.
Rita,
I too agree, one day at a time 100% compliant is a awesome goal. Everything else will fall into place. Way to get back on the horse.
Morning everyone! I think fall is finally here in the Pacific Northwest. It's a cozy kind of day, nice thick fog....and I still haven't been able to find a dressy work coat. *sigh At least I have some form of a coat.
Check out Zulily.com I see their ads a lot and they have a bunch of cute coats for cheap prices. I know you wouldn't be able to try it on and I dont' know how you feel about online shopping but you can always return it.
kissi - I took your advice and had my MIL send me a photo that she took from a few weeks before I started IP. Holy moly. I can't believe how big I had let myself get. I mean, I could feel it in my clothes and see it in my face especially - but my stomach dropped when I saw the pics. It really put things into perspective for how much I've lost, so I think it helped to break down some of those mental barriers I have (that I'm still working on). I have a couple events coming up in the next two days, I'm going to try to get someone to snap a pic of me so I can do a before/after. If I'm brave, I'll post it I usually run from cameras so this should be interesting...
Yay!!!!! I told you that would really put it into perspective. I am constantly updating my after pics and putting them with my before pic just to help coach my brain into realizing that I'm smaller and I'm getting there. I look at those before pics like "omg, I can't believe I looked like that!!!"
Post it if you feel comfortable. I'm weird about posting pics online but I feel like we share so much here and the before and afters really help me gain perspective and gives me motivation seeing others.
Hi everyone,
I started IP 2 weeks ago and I have lost 6lbs so far. I have a few questions since my "coach" is not very helpful and hard to reach.1-According to the BIA machine I have gained 1lb body fat and lost a total of 5Lbs lean muscle mass.
2- My usual day looks like this-
meal 1-vanilla shake plus raw spinach shake;
meal 2-chocolate drink in the carton (my fav)
meal3-Omelet mix with Bell peppers
meal4-8oz of chicken/ 6oz of chicken with 1 boiled egg/8oz tilapia/ 6oz tilapia with 1 boiled egg/6oz of filet mignon. I usually just throw a pot of water with mushroom and herbs and throw my meat of choice in it. I also add 1 packet of miracle noodle on some days to the pot in the end along with 1cup of broccolli.
3-My coach asked me to stick to 20%fat20%carbs60%protein for 900calorie and no matter what combinations I make,I alway go less on one or high on the other macro and even go way below my 900calories on some days (when i eat tilapia)
I diligently take my supplements and oil n salt. I also drink a gallon of water daily as a rule
My question to you guys is-
1-Am i doing something wrong here? Please advise
2-I am very concerned about my fat gain and loss of lean body mass and all the coach says is that "its weird"
3-On some days when i see my calories or protein going way low(100-200 below) than what she wants, i eat half a packet of bbq chips. What should i do when that happens?
I apologize for the long post, but I would really appreciate your help!!!
IP constantly says don't count so forcing you to stress on those things is silly. Eat the sheet. I didn't have that fancy scale and I lost weight and inches just fine. Those scales cause people more worry than anything.
The measures are not as cut and dry as muscle and fat from what I have read and I'm sure someone will explain.
I'm not sure your starting weight. The less you have to lose, the smaller the weekly losses.

OK sooo...your coach either needs to get the body fat scale recalibrated, or throw it out the window (I opt for the 2nd!) since they are highly inaccurate. You would have to consume an extra 3500 calories on top of what your body needs to function, in order to gain 1lb of body fat. So just put that out of your mind, it's clearly way off.
Your meals look ok, though I would go easy on the miracle noodles - they are fine for a treat but not necessarily good to have all the time. I thought the packages were actually TWO servings, not one - but I could be wrong. Remember that a product sold as "carb free" normally does have trace carbs in it (FDA regulations allow them to say carb free if it's less than 1 or 2g).
You also don't need to count calories/macros. That's not how IP is designed. If you follow the program, only eat what's on the sheet, you don't need to count anything. I find it interesting how coaches alter the program, while many really don't understand HOW ketogenic diets work and try to pigeonhole IP into "traditional" diet philosophies.
Your calories are going to fluctuate between 600 and 900 calories, and unless your coach has you meeting certain requirements due to health concerns, you do not need to add a half packet of a restricted item unless you're doing light exercise or exerting yourself more than usual.
Your body may just be more resistant to release the fat, but it will happen! SO many factors can affect losses (stress, hormones, metabolic issues, age, etc).
