Nice! Both my parents grew up in Ridgefield Park and I still have family in Little Ferry and Englewood :)

Happy Friday everyone!

WI this morning and I'm down 0.8 lbs. It's about to be TOM (anyday now) so maybe, just maybe, I will break into the 150s next week. I'm going to start really measuring my oil out and starting back walking in the park on the weekends. I don't like have two low loss weeks in a row!

Not too far away from Edgewater! :) My parents met at Palisades Amusement Park. They both worked there before it closed down. Your parents probably remember that amusement park.

Most of my family moved out of state to CT and Florida but I still have family that live in Waldwick, Mahwah and Ho-Ho-Kus.

I do have something I'm very happy about this week. My sister talked to me about my weight loss and decided she wanted to try IP but really didn't have the money to go to a clinic and afford the IP food. Because of the information and guidance I've gotten from this site I gave her all the tools to do IP with Alts and told her what to look for in an Alt, where to get them, which ones work, etc. and she has been my diet buddy for the past couple weeks - sending me recipes, her dinner, etc. She is pretty much doing IP P2 with Alts. She does an EAS shake in the morning, protein and veggies for lunch, Quest Bar in the afternoon and then cooks dinner (and takes the leftovers for lunch the next day).

I'm happy to say that her starting weight was 278 a couple weeks ago and she is weighing in every Friday morning with me and she was down 7 lbs this week and she is at 266 this morning. That's 12 lbs in less than 2 weeks.

I think that family support can be a great key to success on iP. I started after our daughter and her husband started. They lost 65 and 95 pounds, respectively, and look incredible a year later. They are so happy being healthy.

kissi 09-05-2014 10:51 AM

I agree, Schenectady.

I had her buy a kitchen scale from amazon, because she kept sending me pics of her dinners and I was like "I know by just eyeballing that you aren't eating enough protein"

She just purchased a veggetti too.

I'm very independent and it's still nice having the support. I honestly think it's the most I've talked to my sister, ever. She checks in with me numerous times a day and it's really nice to have someone taking the journey with you....which is one reason why I enjoy this site so much. I'm trying to get her to signup.

She will send me texts like "Everyone is having pizza here and looking at me funny that I'm not eating any, and I just told them that it was not approved on my diet and they left me alone" I told her that was good, flexing that resistance muscle!! And how our office has had plenty of baked goods that I have passed up because the weight loss is more important to me than a temporary feel good feeling that will be followed by a guilty feeling. She cracks me up too, she was like "I was cutting oranges for my kids and I almost popped one in my mouth before I remembered I couldn't do that!"

Happy Friday everyone,

So happy it's Friday because work has been way to stressful this week and I'm over it. Just need to get through today. I love my job but, what they have changed and what they expect is just to much stress. I will be happy to hang out in the pool all weekend weather permitting.

I bought a rotisserie yesterday to start using in place of the BBQ when the weather changes. I've never used one before but, my gf at work says they are great. Does anyone here use one and have any tips?

Oh yes...I heard many stories about my folks at Palisades :)

mimizell: Each piece of gum has 5 calories and 1g carb...
according to MyFitnessPal. You might want to re-think your list of 'changes' to the program. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you can't expect the same results as someone who is actually following the program as written. :halfempty
I know that is rather blunt, but....

Boo... I'm on week THREE and have only lost .6 lbs. I have 24.4 lbs to go. I am following the IP program with these coach approved exceptions:
- I have an extra cup of black coffee most afternoons That's fine but you need to off-set the extra coffee with extra water
- I have about 10 pieces of sugarfree Trident gum with xylotol I'd try to cut that down - even xylotol can spike your insulin if it's overdone. My coach limited the "extras" (WF, gum, etc.) to 5 servings a day
- I've had a 4th protein packet on days where I exercise or am hungry (about 3 times a week) Instead of the 4th pack when you're hungry try using the unlimited veggies. Depending on the exercise you may need an extra packet after (or a hardboiled egg) but I would try to make it one of the lower carb/calorie ones - the fruit flavors are usually the lowest
- I've fallen short on my water by 2-3 cups most days (not ok with coach) Water is so important - really work on getting that water in. When you feel hungry drink a big glass of water first, sometimes it's actually thirst you're feeling

SO sad about this!

Some concerns I have had:
- Jicama is on the veggie list, and I have been eating it most days. I looked up the nutrient value, and a medium jicama (slightly less then 2 cups chopped) has 58g of carbs, with 32g coming from fiber. This seems really high... any thoughts? Everything I have seen gives 2 cups of jicima as 22 gr of carbs & 10 gr of fiber so 12 net carbs.
- any opinions about the gum? see above
- I have 1-2 eggs a day, and my coach said that 1 egg = 2 oz of protein. Is it okay if I have this in the morning along with my cappuccino shake? That's perfectly fine in my opinion. You might try using the just the white for the 2nd egg
- Can I also have a cup of the veggies in the morning? Egg with mushroom and spinach sounds good. Mixing the mushrooms and spinach in with the omelet is a great way to get your veggies in. Just subtract it from your lunch or dinner veggies
- I save my last "snack" until late evening... is there any concern with having a shake before I go to bed? If that's what works for you go for it
- I have forgotten my last two cal-mag supplements a few times. See if you can't set up some type of reminder system. You really need those supplements
- I am using Coconut Oil instead of Olive Oil, as I prefer the taste. Any concerns with this?
- For what it is worth - I have been using WF syrup and bacon ranch dressing I limited the "extras" to 5 servings a day - even those that say they have no carbs will have trace amounts
- I had been making the pancakes with Crispy cereal, and just saw yesterday that some vanilla extracts have sugar in them. I checked mine, and, sure enough, there was sugar in it. I will use WF syrup to sweeten it next time Or you could buy some vanilla extract with no sugar in it

Any other helps or hints? I have felt dizzy a few times, and I have a pretty bad headache, and sluggish and tired most days. I have taken a nap every other day or so. I had expected this to go away by week three. I feel like my metabolism has taken a nosedive. Have you been getting in all your salt? Try licking some off your hand followed by a large glass of water - worked like a charm on the headaches for me

I should probably add that my TOM is later this week -- so that is probably having a negative effect (on weight, mood, and metabolism!) Yeah, that's normal

Maybe today is just a bad day -- but I had expected to be in a better place by now......

I answered in-line above. Hope it helps!

It sounds like you're making too many deviations from the plan and maybe adding in too many extras along with not getting your supplements and water in. Try sticking to the P1 sheet like glue for a couple of weeks and see if that helps.

Let us know how it goes!

jemma51 09-05-2014 11:22 AM

I agree, too many changes. Stick to the P1 sheet and you will lose.

Hi everyone! Had a fabulous weigh-in this week! Down 9.2 pounds in 2 weeks. Grand total?........down 86 pounds! I am so happy. This puts my "super stretch" goal of losing 100 pounds before a big trip within my reach. I will at least be very close. I am leaving on October 15th for a "Lands of the Bible" cruise. We don't come back until late on November 1st. Handling the trip is another matter for another day, but for right now I am doing the 86 pounds lost happy dance!

Thanks to everyone that posts on these boards. I may not always post or reply but I always read and I learn a lot from all of you.

mimizell 09-05-2014 11:37 AM

Thanks Ruth Ann, and others. I will tweak my efforts. I hadn't been measuring my salt, but will do so today. I will also be more diligent about my water.

I hadn't heard the limit on the extras (WF, gum, etc), and had even checked it with my coach. They said unlimited... but I can see where there are probably trace carbs in the gum and the syrup, so I will limit for sure.

My coach also mentioned keeping a little bottle of mouthwash in my purse/at my desk and using that instead of gum. So, I will try that.

Fingers crossed for a strong week! Happy weekend

scorbett0113 & GraceRev - congratulations on the losses!

I was beyond ecstatic when I weighed myself this morning and was down 10.4 lbs in a ridiculously short amount of time. I do need to qualify the loss by saying that I had had a weekend of debauchery with way too many cheats including as much wine as I wanted and these fat-bomb bars that my sis-in-law jokingly calls 'protein bars...because they have peanut butter in them.' Combine this with week before TOM & I experienced some heavy duty scale shock which spurred me into strict Phase 1 action.

So while I am relieved to see the scale go down, it did make me realize some very important things...
~I had gotten sloppy with my Phase 1 day that follows my 'treat/indulgence' day.
~I was eating way too many portions of trail mix/almonds/mixed nuts/almond butter (food without breaks for me)
~I was dipping into the box of cereal and snacking more than I care to admit
~I've identified that when I get around certain family members I seem to think that I should eat whatever I want in unrestricted quantities.

This was a nice wake-up call for me and I'm grateful for that shock & am motivated to keep moving back to my goal. Thanks for listening:)

mimizell, giving up gum was very difficult for me. The only kind of gum that my coach would allow (in limited amounts of 3-4 pieces a day, max) was that which only uses xylitol to sweeten. Some brands I found which met the requirement were XyliChew, Spry, Pur. They are usually found in the organic/health food aisle of major grocery stores. That being said, some coaches don't allow any gum, ever.
