Good morning!!

Good morning. Happy Wednesday.

I move back to my normal weigh in today - hopefully that will bring some of the good "mo-jo" back. I am hoping that today show's a good number on the scale.

I switched up what I was eating so hopefully that will do it.

I'm back, but never really left

Morning Gals --

Anyone remember me? I got busy during the holidays and stopped getting to this board regularly. However, I did not stop IP and stayed completely OP every single day. I'm pretty proud of that.

My weight loss has continued and I have even cracked the 100 lbs lost mark! I did it 3 weigh ins ago, but, honestly, it is just now seeming real and sinking in. 100 lbs gone. Unreal. It will be a year on IP on 2/13.

Lisa -- I almost didn't recognize you! How fabulous do you look!!!! Way to go, girlfriend!

Sending hugs to everyone else along with lots of encouragement. It's good to be back!

Congrats on the 100 lb lost mark. That is great. Super accomplishment.

Hi all - happy wednesday. So I know I'm still pretty new, going through my first week still, but my scale shows my body fat % going up! I've lost a few pounds, but should I be worried about the body fat % number not going down?

CONGRATS!!!!! So proud!!!! I want to loose a total of 100 so hearing more and more people that have hit it gives me so much hope! I've been OP since September and haven't really noticed my loss until a few weeks ago. It really does take time for our minds to process our change. I was shopping online this AM and my eyes went directly to see if an 18 was available and realized i'm a size 12 now! What a great feeling. Welcome back!!

Justine17 01-15-2014 09:41 AM

Good morning everyone,

I'm one my second week of IP and I woke up feeling like I was 90 years old. My whole body aches... I did some shovelling yesterday but that's nothing new as my hubby work out of town. I'm wondering if being soar is due to IP or maybe because it's getting to that time of the month.

Be careful, you're only taking in 750-800 calories a day, that's why they don't want you to exercise vigorously while on phase 1. Shoveling is pretty heavy work, and if you were sweating, it was a work out and you probably got dehydrated. You're going to be sore! Make sure you take in your salt and extra water.

My body fat went up the first week. These scales are pretty unreliable and the number went right back down. I wouldn't let it worry me.

finale 01-15-2014 10:06 AM

Wow Lisa you look great.

Sylvies Girl, what an achievement I hope to follow and loose at least 70-90.

Good morning

I've been testing for ketosis with keto sticks that I got from that large online retail site. Never showed even a bit of color, not even first thing in morning.
Wondered-is it something I'm doing wrong? Sure thought I was following the protocol.
So, I bought some sticks (Bayer) from local drug store yesterday and the stick was the prettiest color this morning.
Yeah!! I am feeling GREAT, doing the dance of joy.

Ditto what calypso wrote. And all bets are off during your first week while you are transitioning into ketosis. I suggest giving yourself the gift of not weighing except at WI. It gave me peace of mind to just focus on staying OP. I find the scale can be a cruel mistress sometimes & does not always give you an accurate reflection of what's going on day to day or even week to week. As long as you stay OP, your weight AND fat should go down down down. That said, CONGRATS on losing some lbs!

don't trust the keto sticks. Many people have brought these sticks up on the forum over the past few months. Seems pretty unanimous that these guys aren't trustworthy. If you're following protocol, you're in ketosis. If you're feeling great, you're doing great!!!

Moodiness & low carbs

IP has been a get-out-of-obesity-jail card for me. I found it relatively pleasant to follow, too. Just recently I had to use P1 to get some holiday weight off after about 4 months on P4. Each time on P1 I've bumped into very low mood, accompanied by irritability and absentmindedness (more than baseline!) that improves with added carbs. But, if I go over a certain carb amount, that brings in another set of issues, eg slower weight loss on P1, cravings on P4.

It seems there is a such narrow margin of the right amount and type of carbs, for me anyway. I had planned to continue eating very low-carb ongoing, maybe even stay in mild ketosis at a higher calorie intake. I am so interested to find out what experiences others have had with mood and cognitive function on the various phases of IP. Thanks!

Tigerlvr52 01-15-2014 10:55 AM

Morning of day 3 here, and doing pretty good so far. The nasty headache is gone and I am doing some research on some new packets I want to order. Hope everyone has a grand day.

Hi Mars...Thanks for your comments. I don't get the moodiness or fatigue described by you and others......just start seeing the scale change ...quickly! I am thinking my maintenance is barely above IP...so when I really get back to that, will stay under 50. That was OK and about where I was clocking as I went slowly into the maintenance phase this fall. Harder to do over the Holidays and with so much long distance travel, that is when I noticed how easy it was to see drift. Now I've customized my fitness pal, to learn a bit more so I can make good choices once I go back to trying to maintain in a few weeks. I also noticed because of the travel, the numbers CAN even out over a week or 10 days and the net impact can be OK.... if I am OH SO CAREFUL...so I'll need to pay attention each day ...but can look at the week as a whole. It gives me a small wiggle ... nice for travel, and special events. Absolutely no all-out-free -for-all days for me. That's OK...an evening event or special meal is enough, and it won't happen every week. It's too hard and not worth it to get back. Increasing good fats does not seem to be a negative for me. In fact it's probably needed to keep my skin, nails and hair form doing terrible things!! Others have noticed they tolerate a bit more fat better than carbs as well. There are some intersting Harvard studies and nutrition articles on low carb. I'll try to link some later today or tomorrow. Just what I need and they may help you too.

EDIT: Harvard studies. **They also have a news letter..

http://www.health.harvard.edu/health...right-proteins

http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritio...hydrate-diets/

I lost another 1/2 pound so am only a pound away from where I should be now...and will continue hoping to lose that last little bit past where I stopped in August.

By Spring ... !!

No. Those are pretty unreliable overall, so I would just ignore the number altogether. Keep up your hard work!

You should definitely eat another packet when you work out vigorously (and shoveling is certainly vigorous!) It's probably a combination of all three things you mentioned. Take an anti-inflammatory painkiller and take it easy today if you can! Feel better.

My experiences are much like yours. I'm usually an emotional mess for the first 1-2 weeks. Things that wouldn't normally bother me really get irritating. It's almost like a constant state of PMS. Sometimes I even get downright enraged at the smallest, stupidest thing. Luckily I'm not very snippy with others and it's directed internally but good grief, I am always clamoring to get out of that stage! As far as cognitive function goes, I haven't noticed a huge difference- I'm maybe a little bit slower on the uptake overall, though

I made it through my first day and am down a pound. Yay! Any encouragement will do. I tried the mushroom soup and had a hard time getting through it after adding 2 cups of mushrooms. And I love mushrooms. I still have 6 more packets. Any suggestions on variations that will help? Also, I would love to hear some of the veterans favorites IP packages. Happy to be here with you all.

IP IS DANGERPOUS TO YOUR.....DESK!!!

ok - there is no way I'm the first person to this - fill my water in my bottle, put in my chocolate shake mix, screw on the top and shake - then immediately get covered with chocolate shake mix and water!!! That darn top wasn't snapped down! It's in between the keys of my keyboard, papers, etc!! Between the shake and the coffee I seem to spill all the time.

When I was on maintenance I did a detox. I found that I was in a very low mood, very depressed. I read that it's not that unusual to have that happen do to hormones or something being released. I wonder if you're experiencing the same sort of thing?

Right now I'm on day 3 being 100% OP for a reboot, I'm going to keep an eye on it and see how I feel.

Thanks for the nice congrats and welcome backs, all. It's great to be back. Nice to see so many new faces and great to see some of the veteran regulars.

Wow, did you look this up?? I barely remember typing that, though they do all ring true and are very much part of my goal set. I have not done any of the yet as I am still not at goal. I am thinking about 25 more lbs need to go.

I tried my utmost to get some boots, but my calves have been the final hold-out, and, alas, I am still sporting ham hocks for calves. I don't want to make an investment unless I know they will fit right when I am at goal.

I have taken myself to some great vintage shops and was brought to tears when I recognized that some of the things would actually fit me. That said, I have not yet actually bought anything like that.

The sweater is on my "knit list" for the year, again, once I get to goal. I need some time to get my funds together as the sweater I want to knit is a long and will need lots of good yarn. I'll try to post a pic of the one I have my eye on:

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...&start=3741739

We'll see how that flies.

So, anyway, thanks for checking up on me. As you can see, I am not "there" yet, but certainly feel almost-there, and even that has been great!

I put an order in 1/4/14 and received it yesterday 1/14/14-they had sent me a notice it should be delivered by Friday so I was glad to get it early!
I heard they were closed for a couple snow days and got behind a little
one of my items was backordered (the oatmeal)

Agreed! Also just be mindful that you aren't doing too much exercise. That's no bueno either due to the reduced calories. I know from living in Buffalo how hard it is to shovel, so heavy and so much work. You should only be doing a little bit of it (if at all).

I ordered last week and it took them about 2-3 days more to process the order and get it shipped out. A little disappointed but I get "it."

Happy Wednesday all! Hope you are all doing well out there.

Oh no! Don't tell me that about Nashua, I'm a new customer and just ordered a ton from them.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Thank you mckaren and sarita! I have enough for about 1.5-2 weeks, so I should be just fine!

sarita75 01-15-2014 03:11 PM

I generally get my orders within 7 days (from them to me, in CA). This was, I think, 10 days.

RN4Babies 01-15-2014 03:41 PM

Just had an "ah ha" moment...My daughter is day-time potty trained, but still wears a pull-up for naps and bedtime. We're working on weaning the nap one first and today she woke up dry! I was so happy and wanted to positively reinforce her, so I offered a treat! Seconds after I did I regretted it. I do not want to start her off with the mindset that food is a reward! My Mom did (and still does) that to me and I reward myself with junk after a long day at work all the time! Next time, I'll be more mindful!

Thanks for the comments about my pic. The scale is moving again. Pretty soon I'll be posting new pics for the 100-off party!

Welcome back and HUGE congrats on the 100 milestone!

Hi all - happy wednesday. So I know I'm still pretty new, going through my first week still, but my scale shows my body fat % going up! I've lost a few pounds, but should I be worried about the body fat % number not going down?

Ignore the body fat %. Those scales "measuring" more than weight just estimate and can be VERY inaccurate.

Don't rely too much on stix.
There are a couple reasons why:
1. We drink TONS of water which can reduce ketones in urine
2. Our bodies quickly become very efficient at burning ketones & then there aren't any left to excrete in urine.
Either way, if we're OP, we're in ketosis.

I like a veggie puree of celery, mushrooms, leeks. Cook til soft (perhaps in a bit of chicken broth) and then puree. If you know how much you started with, then you'll know how much puree = 2 c.
The celery really adds some nice flavor.

Maybe the treat could be a sticker or extra book at bed time. That's what my sister did with my nephew who's 3. That way you can turn the word treat into something more than food. Might be helpful for your own mind to change the meaning of that word in your head.

Or a book RIGHT THEN. Remember, young children need immediate reinforcement (unless the potty happens right before bed)

Welcome back! Congratulations on the 100 lbs lost! What a wonderful accomplishment. I was on phase one for about 5 1/2 months and many times felt as though it was sooooo long! I am humbled by those of you who have been on this journey for much longer and keep plugging away without complaint, and with a clear goal. You are truly inspiring to me. Thank you!

Lisa, congrats on the scale movement. I am happy for you and will be celebrating with you when you hit that mark.

Calypso, congrats on the losses. Those are stellar numbers!

Lynnie63, I sympathize with the chocolate "bath" you had at your desk. Mine was in the front seat of my car (thankfully a rental), but made a mess of my clothing and a bit embarrassing to visit customers with chocolate stains all over my shirt and slacks! It wasn't funny at the time, but it is a bit comical to recall.

Right now I'm on day 3 being 100% OP for a reboot, I'm going to keep an eye on it and see how I feel.

Thanks for sharing that Lynnie. It helps to know it will self-correct, and all in all is worth it to get back to ideal weight. I wonder if it helps the mood to stick to higher carb choices of P1. Otherwise I'll consider wearing a "keep 10 ft back' sign for those around me, lol.
