I was reading yesterday's thread and noticed that some people were talking about their losses being small. I have to say, at this time of year any loss is huge. Think how many years we all spent time eating and gaining weight at this time of year!

I weigh in tomorrow and I think I will have a small loss or quite possibly a small gain. Not because I have not been doing everything correctly but because my loss was so big last week, that I think my body is trying to normalize this week. Plus I usually weigh after work and due to a crazy schedule I weighed in first thing last week. Tomorrow I am back to after work. So just mentally preparing for the scale not to move!

I so much better this year than last. LAst year when I went to my endo doctor in December I hit 190 on their scale. I was pretty low about that. This year I visit him on December 30. What a difference!

shrinkingsusie 12-19-2013 08:10 AM

Good morning!!

Busy busy busy day for me today. Work 10-515 then home quick to shower then off to my work Christmas Party then stopping in to my husband's work party. Of course they had to be scheduled on the same day!! Just glad we committed to my party before his was announced. :p We are going to an Italian restaurant, but I already scoped out the menu so I have a gameplan: Garden salad with grilled chicken breast. My husband's party is a potluck at a coworkers house, so I think eating dinner at a restaurant will be better because that means I can actually eat! :p :p

Going to be a long day/night and then up bright and early tomorrow morning for another full day at work! Can't complain though, it is always busy this time of year with everyone trying to use up their Massage Therapy coverage.

Hope everyone has a great day!! I will check in at some point tomorrow!!

Oh yeah, weigh-in this morning and down another 2.8!! 4.4 away from the 20 by Xmas/NYE challenge. Unless a miracle happens, I doubt that I will make it by Christmas, but I am still hopeful for NYE. :)

nolasmurf 12-19-2013 09:06 AM

Well the scales movin again. Down .4 lbs. thank goodness! TOM has been the worst in a long time! Having our holiday potluck today at work. I got a veggie tray from SAMs to bring and there is a coworker bringing turkey chili. So at least I can eat that. Will be prepared tho with extra veggies and IP packs!

finale 12-19-2013 09:12 AM

Good Morning everyone I just had my weekly weigh in at my house due to having to cancel my official apt yesterday. I hit 218, I was so shocked I have been sitting at 221 for quite a while.....I am so excited and I was able to do this and make it happen. I am proud of myself I was able to see my sister and we both told each other how good we looked we are both doing the weight loss journey. I was worried about seeing her and noticing that she was alot smaller than me. I am ok all I wanted to do was eat after I saw her but I dealt with it.....
I am so excited for xmas I am going to make baked cauliflower and some green beans for myself...I can eat turkey and lots of lettuce I will be good. I want to hit 199 by January 1st. I know this is a huge goal but why not aim for the stars. It I don't meet that goal I know I will obtain it in January...

Thanks to all of you for being on this site and helping me on this journey.

Just Checking If It Worked

ems70508 12-19-2013 12:00 PM

Had a great NSV last night. I was at my parents for my dad's company Christmas party and a lady told me I had a nice figure. UM WHAT?! Never heard that before EVER! How nice to hear. Of course, she didn't know me 15 weeks ago and I would have disagreed with her then.

I also chatted with a good family friend last night about my journey I've been on. She was with me during my first round on IP and now this one. She made a great point that I think we should all start doing. She said she noticed that Americans have a hard time taking compliments. When someone says something nice to us, we don't feel like we deserve it and downplay whatever the compliment was. Her example was that a friend of hers was paid a compliment on her sweater. Her friends response? "oh this old thing? I've had this thing forever it's so old and grungy!"

Why do we do this to ourselves? Let's take these compliments in stride (not to your ego) but allow it to boost our confidence! So many of us (I speak for myself) lack confidence because of our appearance but it's time to change that! If someone pays you a compliment, accept it and let it brighten your day because, well...you deserve it!

IdealProteinNewbie 12-19-2013 12:41 PM

ems70508: Spot on. I do the exact same thing.

Someone will tell me I look great and my response is always "I have so much more to go." I need to stop doing that and accept the compliment!

True and good advice, but some compliments can be hard to react to. For example, I saw a client today I hadn't seen for a while and she said, "Oh, what have you been doing? You look so pretty now!" Hmmm, thanks for subtly implying I was a troll before. I just thanked her and moved on because I know she meant well, but inside I am very sensitive to comments about my appearance, even good ones, because I've been self-conscious and unhappy with myself for such a long time. It will take time to accept compliments without feeling the need to qualify them or wonder what the person really meant.

finale 12-19-2013 01:40 PM

ems7058, what you said is so true. I am going to commit to just say thank you and leave it at that. Great NSV and here we go to the big week, I want to stay strong through the holidays.

I vow to come to this site each and every day and when I'm struggling maybe even more.

ems70508 12-19-2013 02:16 PM

ideal protien newbie, you got it. accept it, as hard as it may be sometimes!

lighthouse i hear ya on that! I was telling my friend that one of my goals is to be at a weight and stay there so that when people do see me after a long period of time, my weight is not a discussion. ever.

finale, that's a great idea! I check here daily as well. I'm always sad when I check in and there hasn't been a whole lot of activity. I'm thinking..where's everyone hiding?!?

Steppy1974 12-19-2013 02:52 PM

Hello all! I started IP on Dec 12th. Since then, I have questioned my decision to start so close to the holidays. I'm glad I have but I'm really tired of seeing sweets and treats showing up at work. I avoid them like the plague and tell myself if I can survive this time of year, I can survive anything!

You are absolutely right about that!
The best way to get through the holidays will be to have a well-thought-out plan.
Plan some OP (On Plan) treats, too.
We have some GREAT recipe threads (see the first post of this thread).

lisa32989 12-19-2013 02:55 PM

IPN: Me too! All I can see is what I have left to go & how I look nekkid. I need to practice just saying "thank you"

Steppy1974 12-19-2013 03:04 PM

Thank you Lisa, I will take a look at the recipe threads.

I tried posting something on FB about being excited about being on a diet and asked friends to not pressure those that are dieting to just try a bite of this or that. (happens a lot to me) Next thing I know I have friends telling me I didn't need to restrict foods if I bought this Plexus Slim stuff they are selling. I'm sorry, I can't see drinking a laxative for the rest of my life to stay thin. Why can't people be happy that I made a choice to do something about my weight?

finale 12-19-2013 03:41 PM

STEPPY1974, I'm happy you made the choice of IP and it is a new way of living and learning how to work with the food we eat. I also believe it shows us why right choices and good choices work.
Stay strong and just remember sometime people don't want us to succeed...

Steppy1974 12-19-2013 05:13 PM

Thank you!! Thank you!! It is quite strange how people push others to try things or to cheat. "Just a little bite, it won't hurt" I'm staying strong! I'm staying strong!

ReenHag 12-19-2013 05:32 PM

Hi, everyone, and Merry-Almost-Christmas! :xcheer::hohoho::tree::rudolph:

I am still around, but busy, busy, busy trying to wrap up some lessons with students before break as well as prepare for my own holiday celebrations. Hubby and I have been on P4 since last Saturday, and I am feeling more and more confident every day! I am fluctuating up and down by a few ounces right around 144 lbs. After the holidays, we plan to do a few more weeks of P1.

I really do think our tastes and preferences change from being on IP. Most of the time, I want to eat things that I was eating on P3. We did have pizza on our fun day, but it wasn't as good as I remember. Hubby, the pizza FANATIC, even said the same thing! IP has really changed our lives!

Amen to that! I have seen myself do the same thing, and I've had similar thoughts to yours. We have worked hard and deserve the kudos!

Makes total sense. However, she probably wasn't thinking (it seems to be more and more common these days)! Darn people!

Ain't that the truth! Cookies, candies, baked goods...they are EVERYWHERE! This time of year certainly tests our strength. Good luck, and welcome to IP. It is amazing!

Good for you! Maybe some of our friends and loved ones need a not-so-subtle reminder :dizzy: that we are trying to get healthy and build life-long habits. Those "little bites" got us where we are. You can have those little bites when you are ready! I feel pretty lucky to be surrounded by mostly supportive people, both at home and at work.

Everyone have a super Friday!!!

I don't know if this is the place to post this question. I've been searching for the link to do a new post but cannot find it. I started IP on Sunday. I had my not-IP breakfast before I got IP meals. I have been IPing every day since then. Monday I came down with an awful cold. It's been horrible all week long. I feel low energy, sneezing coughing, sweating a lot, and have a horrendous headache. I've been taking NyQuil & DayQuil (tablets, not syrup), but it's not feeling better. Is this the "ketosis flu" everyone talks about? Surprised it came on so quickly. My coach said it might be my body expelling the toxins. I'm shocked - I didn't realize I had so much toxicity to get rid of in the first place! How long can I expect this to last? Haven't had much hunger at all Do I just have a standard, run of the mill winter-weather-flu? Any advice would be appreciated! thank you!

ssdlturtle 12-19-2013 07:48 PM

Hi everyone, hope everyone is doing well. Have been staying away from the treats for the holidays. Will also be glad when the holidays are over though. But have been planning so I don't get tempted.

congratulation's Steppy1974, you will do great on IP if you stick to it, I have lost 40# since September, I feel so much better and have gone down 2-3 pants sizes it is amazing, so will stay with it

Welcome stephyank! I'm so sorry you are feeling so poorly.

I know when I started the low energy, sweats and headaches were from "ketosis flu". I didn't have the sneezing and coughing - maybe you have a cold on top of withdrawals from sugar and carbs?

Make sure you're getting all your salt in - it helps with the headaches. I'd put it on my hand and lick it off and follow it with a big glass of water, it helped a lot.

Otherwise, just be nice to yourself - take it easy while you get through the first few days. You should be through the worst of it now and things should start feeling better.

So it's showing now...

That's right! If you were ready to start, then it's the right time, holidays or not. They'll come around again next year anyway, right?

The daily chat is the PERFECT place to post questions like tis because it can start a conversation! We don't need a new thread for everything, only for truly new topics

Anyway,
Sounds like bad timing for a bad cold (so sorry).
I treat colds with homemade chicken/veggie soup, salt water gargles, and lots of herbal tea (simmer ginger root & the add fresh lemon juice)

Grab a rotisserie chicken (or roast a raw one).
Take off the skin & toss. Set aside the meat
Weigh the meat. 6 oz cooked = approx 1 serving
Chop the appropriate amt of OP veggies so you have 2 c for each serving of meat. Toss in a pot with some fat free chicken broth. Once they're cooked, chop the meat & add. Season.
Chicken soup for your cold!
Throw the carcass in a different pot with veggie scraps. Simmer 24 hours then strain. That is your chicken broth for next time. I never but chicken broth.

The good news is that viruses feed on sugar so you are not feeding the virus. I diplomat get sick nearly as often on low carb/ grain/dairy-free. There is just so little sugar for viruses to feed on they have a harder time reproducing.

lisa32989 12-20-2013 07:03 AM

Deana: so glad you toughed it out and are finally getting kudos from others!

Steppy1974 & jobrein: think how SMART you really are! While everyone else around you has a holiday weight gain, you will lose weight and feel better than ever! There is no better gift to yourself.

stephyank 12-20-2013 08:15 AM

Lisa, thank you so much! Woke up feeling better. My head still feels like the insides are popping out of the outsides, but otherwise I feel ok. Thanks again for giving feedback. Early on it helps to have as much encouragement as possible. By the way I'm down 4 lbs in 6 days! While I recognize this as being mostly water, it sure it motivating to keep going! Good luck to everyone making it through the holidays!

Deana,

People seemed to start noticing my weight loss this week. Its nice to know its showing isn't it! Of course people who knew I was on a program could see it but I like that others can see the difference now.

I can definitely see your loss in your current photo! Your looking great!

Steppy1974 12-20-2013 09:01 AM

I like looking at everyone's weight loss tickers! It is motivation for me and proof that this will work. As well as everyone's positive outlook.
I tried it years ago but I really didn't have the finances for it at the time and had to stop after week 2. This time I'm at a position to go with it and the information I gathered with alternatives, really help with the cost of the whole thing. Thank you everyone for being so GREAT on here!

I'm the same way! Since i've lost weight/gained it back/lost it again people are really hesitant to say anything at all! Since I hit ONEDERLAND this AM on my scale, I'm finally starting to see the change in my mirror!! And by onederland, it said 199.8 but i'll take it! I made my Christmas challenge!

ONDERLAND is awesome... you hit the nail on the head... I see the difference in the mirror more now that I'm in the ones... not sure if its psychological or it just shows more... probably a little bit of both.

Congrats! I don't know what it is about onderland but it truly is a psychological boost! Have a great day!

Steppy1974 12-20-2013 09:26 AM

I had to look up what ONEDERLAND was.......... very new here. I know that feeling when I first moved to Florida from Mississippi. I was at 210 and when I made the move down, I had only a part-time job so I hit the gym. I would wear myself out at that gym and I lost weight to 185. Then I got a full-time job and the drive to and from that job took up my gym time. (single mom needs time with her child) So now I hardly workout and my weight started to creep back up to 198. So I started IP before it got any worse and I dropped to 175. It was an amazing feeling and gave me motivation to stick to this. No matter what!

GREAT job ladies! You have ALL come a long way! I hope one day I will be able to do the same. I'm hoping for 140-130 range.

Morning all. Managed to get thru the office potluck , it helped that we were having a sales contest during the same time. I focused on that rather than the food. Just two more work days then I'm on holiday vacation. Very excited!
