  • And remember:
There is NO WAY the gain is fat. Not at under 1000 calories/day.
It is your body revolting & trying to hang on to what it has.
    It will come into compliance.
Patience is SO.HARD. (from one who has been on this doggone plan for over a year!)

thanks for those good reminders, Lisa! Would you mind terribly if I just double check with you- is 98% lean ground turkey IP approved meat? The papers say extra lean ground beef and I have been using turkey. It seems to make me " gain" when I eat it. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

LOL. I've actually found I lose better if I don't always stick with ultra lean but make sure I get a good ol steak in there once & awhile. I learned this from those who came before me. But yes, the turkey is fine.

I detest ground poultry. Not sure why. If I have burgers (or ground meat in a recipe), it is grass fed beef or pastured pork. Grass fed beef is by nature leaner anyway. The only time I have poultry is if I roast or grill some.

I did Atkins 10 years ago (lost 100...didn't learn to maintain) and I"m a RED MEAT girl (and the "other" white meat).
  • Quote: This is just what I needed to read today! I am starting week 5 and things are getting wonky lol. At the beginning of the week I was 133.8. Now I am mysteriously 135.8 two days in a row and I was picture perfect IP the whole time. I am having the big C and have tried all my usuals to no avail. I am literally uncomfortable. I am actually drinking coffee which I gave up to try to help the process. Gonna get the smooth move tea today and stick with it. I go for surgery next week and have no idea what that will do to my body. I know I won't want to eat at all for a few days. Ugh. Great to hear that I am not doing anything " wrong" if I experience a gain in week 4-5-6. I am 15 lbs away from goal and am definitely not giving up now! I've grown accustomed to my little eating routine lol. Thanks for the encouragement ( which I kind of latched on to here on others' posts!)
the big C can mean a 5 lbs weight gain sometimes...so i wouldn't worry too much about going up on the scale if things aren't coming out soo well.

i would talk to your coach about how to manage stuff while post op...maybe you could do extra packets or something if you wont be up to eating ...you're still going to have to drink right? and get the JELLO! Good luck with Sx next week.

I'm the same way.....ground chicken and turkey makes me...gosh i can't even think about it lol....good to know its okay tho..i was feeling like a cheater pants. I always buy the grass feed anything...not just beef.
  • Quote: This morning I wanted to see if I had lost weight prior to weigh in tomorrow morning and it shows a gain of 1.8 ibs... I was shocked because I follow the plan accordingly with no cheat.. I am finishing my week 4 on the plan and so far achieved a 17 Ibs loss but I am baffled as to why the weight gain... I had an hysterectomy 2 years ago so I cannot blame it on TOM... I drink about 72 to 88 oz of water a day and only eat what is on the list..
Any of your input would be appreciated !! Many Thanks

FIRST>>> 17 POUNDS IN 4 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW! That's awesome!!! I try to focus on the total loss and not week by week. I'm currently a "restarter" and experienced a gain during a couple of my weeks...it's so disheartening because like you I'm a 110% OP Iper!

The gains happen due to sodium intake, summer heat can cause your body to hold onto water, or some of the food options may be causing the water retention. Because that's all it is...water retention. A pound is 3500 calories and there's no way an OP person ate that much!

Trust the plan and know it works! The only problem you'll have now is going to the bathroom non-stop to get rid of the water retention. It will happen. AND if it doesn't happen before your weigh in this week it will happen soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You got this!

Oh I like this lol! I do get good ground poultry from my local Co-Op and they have delicious and not-to-expensive grass fed ground beef so I'm going today lol! I do actually like red meat despite being veggie for 21 years and I found my body responds very well to it. I am traveling for 6 days starting Thursday ( bringing all my own IP approved food of course) but maybe I'll treat myself to a nice steak. I know DH will love it! Lol. Oooo my mouth is watering! Thank you!

    Cows, sheep etc eat grass
Chickens & pigs are omnivores so we want them PASTURED, not corn fed or grass fed.
I know goat eat grass but may eat other stff...need to read more about this & ask my farmer who has goats!

yes yes we have hijacked the thread but...i know basically i meant animals that are allowed to do what they want to do and eat what they prefer to eat...rather than the poor things all caged up and eating some slop to make them fat.
  • Have to chime in on this one.

I just had week #15 weigh in. All week long my scale bounced between 206 and 207 - I was all excited for my weigh in so I could officially be down 50 pounds.

Got on the scale this morning - 210! Well, I KNOW I didn't gain 3-4 pounds of fat overnight - not physically possible. Looked back at my food and realized I had a very high sodium (for me) day yesterday so I knew where the culprit lay.

Coach's scale showed 208 so I'm down 2 pounds this week - not quite what I wanted but I'm not unhappy. My retaining water was confirmed when my ankle measurement was up an inch.

The scale can do weird things to your head and I try not to get emotionally invested in it (even though it's fun seeing smaller numbers). It will all even out eventually
