I'm checking because while I dieted for many months last year and lost 60 lbs using alternative products, I just paid attention to the nutritional values and didn't do this calculation discussed above.
So, I'm checking to make sure I'm understanding the calculation, and using the IsoFemme Chocolate Decadent Almond Delight Bar as an example.
According to this link -
http://www.allmaxnutrition.com/produ...y-protein-bar/
Click on 'Supplement Facts & Ingredients' to find the nutritional values.
this bar has 150 calories, with 4.5g fat per bar.
If I do the calculation of 4.5g fat x 9 cals/gm of fat = 40.5 x 3 = 121.5
So according to the explanation above, imo this bar should be a
suitable alternative bar, as this is lower than the total of 150 calories in the bar.
---------
For comparison purposes, I found the nutritional values for several IP bars at
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/cal...utrition-facts - Enter 'Ideal Protein bars' in the Search Bar - several come up - I'm using their Peanut Butter Bar as an example here...
It has 170 cals/bar, with 7g fat/bar
If I do the calculation of 7g fat x 9 cals/gm of fat = 63 x 3 = 189, which is
higher than the total calories of the bar.... so the IsoFemme bar above actually looks like the better choice.
Am I doing this right? !
I can buy IsoFemme bars at my local Shoppers Drug Mart, and in fact they are one of my favorite alternative bars since I can just buy one or two at a time as a treat. (I try to avoid buying boxes of bars, since I don't want to get into the habit of having them all the time). But I'd like to make sure I'm understanding this correctly for future reference.
Thanks!
