Default No weight loss first week!

Has anyone else done IP and had their first WI and stayed the same? Scale moving SLOW this week too, not weighed in yet. Any ideas what could be happening? Did Zumba first week....stopped it this week....no difference!
Arrgghhhh. Frustrating when you hear of all the high weight losses each week! I have done Weight Watchers up to IP so I have been dieting.....but really, no good progress? I wasn't expecting that......
Suggestions?

what are you eating each day? do you measure yourself? have you lost any inches?

If you have been sticking to the program, then it is probably just water retention. Ideal protein works wonderfully, stick with it

I am eating exactly what is on plan. Hubby is doing it with me and we eat exactly the same things. (He lost 6 lbs!) 3 packets of IP daily and 6 oz of meat and 2 cups veggies at supper and lunch......briefly. Coffee, occasionally with half and half..... but would that stop weight loss? I drink all the water....and have been VERY religious about the program, with the exception of coffee occasionally with h&h? A puzzle.......
Hubby thought zumba was the culprit but did not make a difference this week.
Don't feel like I am in ketosis.....

Dairy can definitely be the culprit. IP allows 1 oz of skim milk in coffee, or you can use some of the IP vanilla drink. Try cutting the half/half out this week and see if you lose weight/inches.

dairy has sugar in it, go black...follow it to a 't', be methodical about following the plan

yes you're allowed 1oz of skim milk but that always made me feel like my coffee just needed more creamer so I started drinking black with splenda to get my caffeine fix

The exercise could have stalled you the first week. Do you have a coach?

Yes, I do have a coach and he was surprised. I reassured him I did not cheat knowingly! (I am sure you always wonder as a coach.) He suggested watching salt, modifying exercise (I decided to stop it for a week) and see how this week goes. I was also fighting a cold.....had taken Zicam, so he said a lot could be going on? Again....but NO WEIGHT LOSS? I was so disappointed based on what friends are losing.
Scale moved this week, but not for the last 3 days! ugh
I will figure this out..... I like the diet and food and want to reach my goal!!!
Thanks for the support......

Exercise should NOT be added until your body has adjusted to ketosis, and even then should really be kept to a level where you do not work up a sweat or breathe heavily. The IP diet is FAR too low in calories for your body to handle sweating out a few hundred of them, and on top of that muscle recovery causes water retention. Consider that in light of the fact that the big drop most people see the first week of IP is a lot of water, and you can see why exercise may have kept you from seeing any movement on the scale. My suggestions would be:

- stick to black coffee or only the 1oz skim milk in your coffee. Also make sure that for any caffeine you drink after the first cup, replace with an equal amount of water ON TOP of the water you are supposed to be drinking every day. It's easy to get dehydrated on this diet.

- Eliminate all exercise for at least the first 3 weeks. Don't take long walks, don't lift weights, definitely don't go to an exercise class. Let your body get into ketosis and adjust to it. At that point you can consider adding light exercise, but for now the most important thing is to give your body time to get into ketosis and start burning that fat.

- Don't compare yourself to your husband. Men (annoyingly) lose weight much faster than women. Your journey is your own, and will take its own course.

Good luck!

I agree with what the others have said. I completely left out the dairy and just used the vanilla IP shake to add to my coffee (also cut out caffeine completely...even now that I'm in maintenance I still don't have any caffeine). Just stick with it and the results will come. I know it's hard but try to be patient and don't compare yourself to others. It will happen.

Thank you so much for your enlightening words! Along those same lines, I did do some strenuous yard work this week, with very sore muscles following...again could be the water weight retention hampering any scale results. Makes such good sense! Will def give up the h&h and limit coffee.
I hope you are a coach at a center, as you are VERY knowledgeable and supportive!
Drinking all the water....... too.
thx

You may be following an old Phase 1 sheet. There have been changes in the ounces of meat and occasional vegetables. The latest has a Feb. 2013 date on the bottom. The first post in the Daily Chat has a link to the most recent sheets for all phases.

The one thing that popped out when I was reading your post... when you listed what you are eating, did you mean you eat 6oz of meat and 2 c. of veggies at lunch and at dinner, or just 6 oz for the day and then 2c of veggies at lunch and dinner? I know every coach is different, but mine had said 6-8oz of protein total for the day...if you were eating it twice, that's extra fat/cal that could be hindering it.

I noticed this also just now, when I was reading this thread. This could definitely make a difference. Unless it was miss-typed.

Thanks for your support everyone.....no I am only eating the 6 oz of protein at dinner along with the 2 cups of veggies at both. I have the new plan also, dated 2/13.
Scale is down this morning...... I am happy....convinced it is the HEAVY exercise that is the culprit during these initial weeks.
Can't "weight" for WI later today!
Again, thanks for all the information shared. It does help.
