Default ip newbie :)

hi all!

i am considering signing up for ideal protein with my local clinic. i've been reading through the stickies, success stories, recipe threads, and daily discussions here and i think you all have really sold me on it.

i'm looking for new friends and for anyone to share their experience with me.

a few questions:
-do you regret signing up for it?
-what has been the biggest hurdle?
-what has been most rewarding?

My only regret is that I didn't try IP when I first heard of it.

The biggest hurdle was the first 3-4 days, but I stuck to it. It works if you follow the plan. You can see my before and after pics in my profile. Just click on my name, then view public profile.

There are so many NSV's (non-scale victories), it's hard to say what was the most rewarding.

One year from now you will be so glad you decided to start today!

I definitely have no regrets about signing up for IP!

The biggest hurdle... giving up wine. That sounds terrible, but I love wine and we had it almost every night with dinner.

The most rewarding thing has been the positive feedback from friends and family. The new clothes shopping is pretty rewarding too

Best of luck to you!! The first week was rough - stick with it and it will get better. I promise!

No regrets at all! I can't count on two hands the number of weight loss plans/suggestions I've tried over the years. It still amazes me that THIS is the first diet I have actually seen through to the end, reaching goal weight and phasing into "normal" life again.

The biggest hurdles were definitely the first week, and then the mental battle over food. I'm convinced that most of the battle against fat happens not on the plate, but in our heads. We give so much power to food, power that it should not have. One of the keys I found in Phase 1 is that it strips things down, takes most of the thinking out of FUELING our bodies, so that we can win the MENTAL war.

Most rewarding? I could go on for days Being able to chase my kids around without getting winded. Feeling my husband put his arms ALL THE WAY around me. Sliding into a pair of pants that are a single digit size. Knowing that I am the only one in control of what goes in my mouth - I always knew the right things to do, but now that willpower muscle is STRONG, and I never have to be afraid of the scale again. Having people tell me I'm lying when I talk about planning my 40th birthday month for January. Not being afraid or ashamed to be in family pictures. Knowing that the me on the outside finally matches the me on the inside.

Good luck on your journey!

I found out about IP from my family doctor. He told me about it and I set up the appointment with my coach that day. I started two weeks later after my planned vacation and haven't looked back since.

Like the others, the first four days was the most difficult for me. After that it was clear sailing with no cravings. I helped over Memorial Day with desserts (chocolate cake) and it didn't faze me one bit.

The most rewarding is clearing out my closet of my "fat" cloths. Most troubling is that I still see that chubby guy in the mirror....working on that....enjoy

*not one single regret about signing up

* biggest hurdle = getting past my own skepticism:
a) about yet again trying to lose weight
b) that ip was just another sales gimmicky snake oil system
c) why bother trying to lose weight again when it will all come back with even more in tow

* most rewarding = how genuinely good I feel mentally and physically while following this plan; how easy it is to follow; that I have no hunger pangs or cravings; that I am eating more healthily than I have in years; that the weight is coming off; that with just 20 pounds down, I can already feel the difference in my knees; that I have such good energy; that I feel that I stride as I move through the day; .... That I am doing it!

a few questions:

Not at all! After the holidays were over I was so depressed at gaining more weight so I made an appointment

-what has been the biggest hurdle?
As others have said, probably the first few days, and after that I felt like I was too full to eat the expected food (that part changed and I am now thrilled to eat it all). The cost could be a bit of a hurdle, but totally worth it for me. If I couldn't swing it I would do alternatives.

-what has been most rewarding?
Everything. I have embraced other diets and gone to WW meetings. I have counted points and worked out 60 minutes a night and still not had success like this. That makes it very rewarding to me. I have a ways to go, but I am starting to love trying on clothes and looking in the mirror. I even had a picture taken of me this weekend that was posted online that I was happy with!

I also have to say it is rewarding that I have gotten to love vegetables and have tried a wide variety. I can barely believe it.

Both of these! I've been on diets since I was 8 years old of one sort or another. I have finally reached the lowest weight I have been since 4th grade thanks to Ideal Protein. What I wouldn't have given to have had this 30+ years ago. But like A1Texan I still see the fat little kid looking back at me from the mirror. It's going to take more than just losing weight to get rid of him.

A lot of people pass on this diet either due to the cost or they don't want to give up alcohol, avocadoes, bread, etc, etc. I'd have happily paid double if I knew it was going to work as well as it has.

My only regret is that I didn't do this SOONER!

The biggest hurdle, like most here, it was my first week, after that, I was good to go and I absolutely love this way of life.

The most rewarding is
The response and compliments I get from friends, family and coworkers about my new 'shape'.
Being able to dress in single digits! Yeah!
Being able to actually wear a bikini this summer
The pride I take in my accomplishment! I'll be at goal in only 4 lbs and will be joining Scorbett and many more in maintenance.

Good Luck!

Welcome, sunshine!
My only regret is that I can't afford to do the whole program!! The reason being that I've already financially committed to another Program; otherwise I'd have NO qualms about spending good dollars on IP.

I'm new to IP as well; as a matter of fact I haven't fully started yet, as I am "going alternative" and have not yet placed my first order for protein supplements. That will happen this weekend - I'm so stoked!

I heard about IP through a friend at work who is doing FANTASTIC. I did a lot of research and have started following the IP principles as best I can over the past 2 weeks. Even with some cheats I've already lost more than the previous 2 months on WeightWatchers!

I can't wait to go full tilt!

thank you all so much for your awesome replies!

i'm glad no one really regrets it. i was a little worried about possibly getting burned out on eating pouches of food... but no one has mentioned this in anything i've read. that is very promising!

i love that everyone is so optimistic and really praises this program. sooo looking forward to it. my first appointment is tomorrow at 5pm.

again - thanks all! you are all an inspiration.

Let us know how it goes.

As for the pouches:
I actually find them very easy to use. This, I believe, helps me stick to programs. Once you start reading through the threads, you will see how much they can be creatively customized...so far, I have not once felt like, 'got to eat that same old thing.'

-do you regret signing up for it?

Absolutely not. I wish I had signed up a year earlier when I 1st heard of it!
-what has been the biggest hurdle?

The 1st week, having to deal with cravings. They go away after awhile, but sometimes it's really really hard.

-what has been most rewarding?

OMG!! I can look at fashion magazines and see stuff I can actually wear!!! I was a 22 and now going in to a 12! I feel fabulous, have energy, can go up two flights of stairs without being winded.

Regrets:
None. I heard about IP from one of the doctor's at work who lost 50 lbs and looked fabulous.
Biggest hurdle:
The cost. After hearing about the program at work I began researching clinics in my area, but the cost was too prohibitive. THEN I found this website and did my research and am doing the program 100% using alternatives.
Most rewarding:
Not only the weight loss but the inches lost. In my first 5 weeks I lost 24 lbs & 17 inches. I feel stronger, healthier and more energetic than I have in years. I have done so many diets over the years including WW many times and so far this is program has had the best results of any of the others.
Also I have to say the people on this site who willingly share their recipes, ups and downs have made this journey easier. I learn from everyones experiences.
