Humor is important on this journey. When people come up to me at a gathering and give me advice and say stuff like, "just one slice won't kill you." or "I eat my carbs first thing in the morning." or "blended fruits mixed with spinach and a bagel in the morning keep me going all day long." I just look at them as they eat their cake and nod. Almost all the ones that are trying to give some advice to me usually also have about thirty pounds to lose and think they are healthy because they drink a V8.
What they don't get is that it's not the one slice that kills you. It's the totality of years of eating one slice at a time that ends up doing you in. No one dies of lung cancer by smoking two hundred cigarettes in a sitting... they stretch it out, cutting seconds that add up to minutes that add up to hours and days off their life.
Food can be much more insidious because while you don't really need a cigarette, you have to eat. So if you can control what you put into your pie whole you can control what goes on your stomach, butt, thighs, etc. Stick to the protocol.
