I am trying to set my goals but I am not sure how many carbs to stay at or below? Now that I am tracking I seem to be going over by 7-10 grams a day because I set it to 30 grams. Is this too low or am I making bad food choices.
How many carbs, fat & protein grams did you set your mfp at?
I'm going to try my fitness pal too. My name there will be Momto32001
If you don't mind - I will try to friend you all.
Thanks for sharing your info - I'm hoping seeing what some of you are doing will help me figure it out - my kids laugh at how computer challenged I am - so I can use all the help I can get.

I just left mine as is, just because I don't like messing with the settings
For protein, we should be somewhere in the 90-110g per day range
There's no guideline for fat in terms of how many grams - but you should be below 30% of total calories from fat (roughly).
Carbs should be in the 20-50g per day range - BUUUUUT that is net carbs (total carbs minus dietary fiber), NOT total carbs. That's one of the pitfalls of MFP, they count TOTAL carbs but not NET carbs. So your carb counts will almost always seem high even if you're exactly on target.
Excellent. Thanks for the reply! I seem to be at 37 grams of total carbs consistently. I'll try to count the carbs myself to see what the net total is. I kind of eat the same IP products & similar regular food.

Just don't get too hung up on it, the Phase 1 protocol is designed to keep us AWAY from counting everything and focusing on eating our meals and snacks, and learning portion control on the veggies and meats and low carb meal preparation. I agree that it's good to know what the rough guidelines are, but that's information to keep on the back burner

My coach said to set MFP at 50% protein, 30% fat, 20% carbs (these are approximations for IP plan, daily fluctuations won't be exact). I set my cals at 1000 max (rarely hit that, unless I have a ribeye steak or the one time I splurged and had ribs). MFP will calculate exacts if you just plug in %. Then I don't stress if carbs go over a tad b/c those are total carbs & IP is net.
It's really just an observation & learning portion control & practice recording at this point. The P1 sheet keeps me on track.

As I said, not too tech-savvy here. How do I change the settings?
I hope it is alright I am joining the 3fc mfp group of gals! I do it off and on but now that I am back on phase 1 I could use all the support I can get! My user name is higamroth
I just joined MFP as well but can't figure out how I add all you lovely ladies as friends! My handle there is Minchie58 if you'd like to add me. I'll keep fiddling with it to see if I can get the hang of it. Thanks for your help!
