Talking IP and Pregnancy

Surprise, I am pregnant! A very welcome surprise of course. I was using birth control pills so it could have very well been the recent weight loss.

I have been in IP Phase 1 since July and was 5 pounds from goal when my husband and I learned that I was pregnant a few days ago. My initial instinct is to start eating "normal" again. So I have been back to whole grains, fruit and Greek yogurt. I haven't been able to find much literature on how to phase off properly while on IP and pregnant.

Does anyone have any words of advice or links to share?

Thanks so much!!!

Congrats!! I am no expert, but I think you are right to reintroduce whole grains etc. Perhaps slowly so you don't have discomfort. Early pregnancy does not take very many extra calories, but I definitely would not want to be in Ketosis. On the other hand, I would still journal all your food. It will probably be easy to overeat having come off such a strict low-carb diet to pregnancy.

Congrats again, so happy for you!

Congrats!!!

Wow, super exciting! Enjoy. (envision this as if I knew how to do fun rainbow coloured words)

Ask your coach if they have any literature, and I will email my bff (a nutritionist) to see if there is any info she may have.

At this point it wouldn't be the calories, but the nutrients that you want to be aware of.

Again, Yeah!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS! I think you're spot on phasing off. Maybe talk to your doctor and start doing phase 4??? Make sure you're getting all the necessary nutrients!

Congratulations!

I would reach out to the OB/GYN about the best approach to meeting the nutritional needs for you, and you baby - or another licensed medical professional.

My coach talked to me about this probability specifically when I was in Phase 1 and said in the case that happened I would move immediately to Phase 3 and phase out of IP. Congratulations! We are actually hoping to start trying for our #2 in a few months - I want to get a 'stable' maintenance down beforehand. Your OB/GYN should be able to talk more about nutritional needs, but they aren't much higher than what your maintenance intake would require, especially your first trimester.

Congratulations! My husband and I want to start trying, but I have about 20lbs to go to goal. I asked my coach what would happen if I 'accidentally' got preggo on P1. She told me they would phase me off to p3 immediately (although some people need to do a week of p2 because they couldn't tolerate). And she tolde that I could follow P4 right through the pregnancy as it covers all of the food groups and is a generally healthy way of eating.
