My name is Melanie and I have been researching and considering just about every diet out there. I am planning on starting next week-end so that I can make the best possible choice. All diets I have researched so far have little or no feedback from the "normal" people out there and testimonials seem fake to say the least.
In the case of IP I have been reading many of your threads and everyones progress on this diet seems to be quite astonishing!!! So I guess I am looking for reassurance that you would recommend this program and I am curious if anyone has been successful in maintainig their goal weight once it was achieved.
Everyone around me to whom I spoke of IP just keep telling me how this is too good to be true and that I will only gain everything back once i stop and start eating normally... I am truly terrified of this happen so if you now of any long lasting results I would appreciate your feedback on it
Thank you so much for reading and congratulations to everyone on their remarkable success!!!
I'll just give you my experience.. I've tried to lose weight for 20 years, very little success, 15-20lbs here and there, then gain back more than was lost. I started this June 7th because my DIL's doctor recommended it to her for an insulin resistance issue. The quick, easy results are what kept me motivated and going. I haven't gotten to the maintenance point, can't answer the concern of keeping it off. But in 4 months, I have learned a different way to eat, the phasing off process seems to make it fail-proof and reading through the maintenance thread every now and then makes me believe by changing the way I eat and think about food, this will work for a lifetime. Good luck, this is an amazing program, I wish I had found it much sooner!
I found the maintainers thread after posting this and have been reading some of the posts... I think it is safe to say If you want to maintain you will
I can't believe how much weight you both have lost in such little time! I think that the only way for me to stick to a program is to see results quickly... I have tried the nutritionnist approach but hardly loose at all and struggle to prepare my meals while counting calories... argh!
In any case I really do think thas this diet can work for me.. But I must admit that reading everyone's success on this forum is what made me believe I can do this and that it will work!!!
I will set up an appointment for this week so that I can finally start loosing and feeling better about myself!

Everyone around you is absolutely right. You WILL gain it back if a return to "eating normally" means going back to old habits.
If, on the other hand, you embrace IP and work through all FOUR Phases as they are designed, I have complete faith that both of us will learn to maintain our weight loss.
I joined IP because a friend lost 50 lbs pretty quickly. She has now maintained for 1.5 years. I have a history of losing 100 lbs and NOT maintaining the loss so I share your trepidation, however I know I did not follow the maintenance plan of the program. A return to bad habits will return the weight. No question. But an old dog can learn new tricks! I'm counting on it!
I've entered this knowing I'll have to change my entire attitude about food. Many people will probably wonder why I act like I'm "always on a diet" but I know that maintenance is just as much work (if not more) than losing the weight in the first place. I will not fail!!!
Thank you for your reply! I am positive that you will accomplish your weight loss goal
I am so motivated right now having read many stories on this site! I have my appointment on wednesday and will surely start my IP diet on thursday!! Can't wait!!!

IF you follow the plan, IF you go through all 4 phases and IF you embrace the fact that you WILL have to change the way you eat, even in maintenance, you WILL be successful on IP.
You know that you cannot continue to eat the way you're eating and that you are going to lose weight. So, you cannot expect that after you lose weight that you will be able to go back to eating this way and not gain weight. It's pretty simple. You will have to embrace that you are going to change the way you eat, forever.
All that being said, you will WANT to change the way you eat forever because your taste buds will change. And things that you think taste good now, will taste like garbage when you do eat it again. I used to dream about eating things when I was on phase 1, then when I hit maintenance, and I was able to have that food again, 1 bite and I was so turned off. It did not taste as good as I remembered it.
I feel like like IP changed my life. I don't know where I would be without it. It saved me. IP is worth every single hard earned penny and I would recommend this diet to anyone. My story is similar to most, I have tried every diet under the sun, and IP was the only one where I had true success. I have been on maintenance for close to a year. I have been able to maintain my losses- for the most part.
I got a little lax this summer, enjoyed traveling, mojito's on the beach, Sunday night pizza, and dismissed my P1 days. And it caught up with me. But that is the beauty of Ideal Protein. I gained a few pounds back, and here I am, right back on P1 for a few weeks, getting rid of it and NEVER needing to buy a bigger size. I took control of the situation before it became out of control.
I can't say enough good things about IP and it is hard to describe how it changed my life. It is a strict diet, but worth it.

Loved this! I just started Phase 2 and it's funny how I'm having Phase 1 withdrawal symptoms when 2 months ago, I couldn't wait to be off the diet. I almost feel afraid to finish the 2 weeks of Phase 2 and move on to Phase 3 where I'm required to eat those huge breakfasts. I'm wondering if I'll have the same experience as you, jennydoodle, and I'm comforted by the fact that if I do start gaining back the weight, I can always go back to Phase 1 and take control of my life. I think that's the best thing this diet has given me-- the knowledge that I am in control of what I eat, how I feel about that, and how I look because of it.
if you're about to start go to the store and get a thing of olive oil, frozen broccoli or asparagus bags, a bag of lettuce or two, a flavor or two of Mrs. Dash (I recmmend the Table Blend and Original and your favorite of these veggies to put on your salad: cucumber, green or red peppers, mushrooms and/or a small tomato
I wanted to start right after my consultation and didn't have the thing I needed, having these few staples at home already will help get you started without overwhelming yourself
