How important are the compulsorary oil and sea salt? These are the two things i consistently forget about each day. I'm under the impression that cooking your lean meat in the evening with the oil is not enough - you physically have to have 1 - 2 teaspoons of oil and 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt. What impact is this having when I forget about it each and every day?
They are both VERY important. Your body needs SOME fats to maintain proper function. Salt is necessary to maintain the proper electrolyte balance while we are drinking so much water.
Keep in mind that this program is finely-tuned to work AS WRITTEN. I have yet to find a requirement of this diet that wasn't there for a very good, medically-based reason.
As far as how I get it in - every day I have at least one salad. I generally use olive oil, lemon juice and salt as dressing, if I have 2 salads I will use a Walden Farms dressing on one and the oil/lemon juice dressing on another. I put salt on my dinner, and if I'm snacking on raw veggies instead of putting them on my salad, I salt them too.
I was having trouble eating a full tsp of salt every day too. In my first week, my eyes started getting blurry, I couldn't focus on small print or anything close to my face. I talked to my coach who talked to the information officer. They said it was either hypoglycemia or low sodium.
Since then I mix a tsp of salt with about 15 oz of water and some MIO and drinks it every morning with my vitamins. My eyes gave gone back to normal.
I usually add the oil to soup as its cooking or use it to sautée veggies.
i use the olive oil and salt when i roast veggies. i also add a little salt to my coffee in the morning and any of the packets i find too artificially sweet
It's important to make sure you are getting enough oil in if you are cooking with it as a lot is left behind.
Both salt and oil also play a role in preventing constipation.
It's better to err and have a bit too much...
To help get my salt in I add a little into my water everytime I fill my bottle up. When I feel like I have not incorporated enough I just do a salt lick on my hand.
I have struggled with the oil intake as well. I use it when I cook all my veggies, but have pretty much resorted to taking a teaspoon full at dinner like medicine. Not great, but I know I get at least 1 teaspoon full for sure. I am just not a salad person so I rarely have them.
Thanks to you both - I'll have to try to oil, lemon, salt dressing tonight.
Yep-both VERY important. If you skip the fat, you're weight loss will stall and your brain really needs that fat. I do a dressing with (2 tsp) olive oil/ (6 tsp) apple cider vinegar, sea salt, pepper and dill. If I'm having 2 salads, I just split it because I too HATE the WF dressings. You should always have your fat fresh as cooking it destroys what you actually need from it. As for the salt, it took me a while to add this because I don't have a big taste for salt but when I started getting dizzy, having problems with my eyes, and cramps, well - I found a way
I just started the program 2 weeks ago, and have seen some results, however, I'm definitly going to try all the tricks here for the oil and salt - I didn't realize they were that important. If they help with quicker weight loss, I'm in. I apprecaite all the advice!
