I was pretty excited for cabbage too - I've been using it all week in my salads for a crunchy texture BUT after my 1st WI yesterday, my coach gave me a revised Phase I instruction sheet (updated in March 2102) which says Green Cabbage is not allowed - only Red Cabbage, Pak Choi + Bok Choy
That said, according to Dr. Chanh's online book (which is stitched with inconsistencies on allowable foods and amounts) he states the following:
All very low-glycemic index vegetables, or almost all vegetables, are allowed on the protein diet:
Vegetables to Enjoy:
asparagus, Swiss chard, celery, chicory, Chinese cabbage, cucumber, zucchini, watercress, endive, spinach, fennel, lettuce, mache (lamb’s lettuce), sorrel, bell peppers, radishes.
Other vegetables contain slightly more carbohydrates, but are still allowed (some nutritionists disallow them; however, if you don’t
overdo it, these vegetables will not keep you from losing weight).
Vegetables to Enjoy in Moderation:
eggplant, broccoli, fresh button mushrooms, cabbage, sauerkraut, cauliflower, red cabbage, green beans, turnips, dandelion, leeks, soy sprouts, tomatoes.
Okay - this has me steamed I just joined 3 weeks ago, so you would think I was given the most current info. I specifically asked my coach about cabbage, and he said the "greener, the better." When I saw your post, I pulled out my sheet and in small-small print in the bottom right hand corner, it says "05/24/11"!!! I am beginning to wonder if I am going to the right place!! The coach is nice and seemed well informed, but over the three weeks I have come to realize that things are "lacking" (can't think of a better term right now). After reading these boards, I see that things are too laid back at my location.
I have never been measured, other than my initial consult/startup. The scale they use is just a weight scale. Nothing that shows percentage body fat, water, etc., etc. When I went in Tuesday for WI #3, there were 4 other people there waiting and things seemed very rushed and impersonal. I was helped by his assistant, who seemed over-worked and frustrated with the amount of people who had shown up at once (I am usually the only one there at the time I go). I brought in a list of what I wanted, and they were out of all of it so I had to shop in their cabinets. I guess I was taking longer than the assistant had planned, because she told me that "using the order sheets we give you really helps speed things up." UMMM, Hello?? I used the sheet, but you were out of everything I wanted.
As for as the cabbage, I am not sure what to do now. I have eaten it at least 2-3 times per week over the last 3 weeks, and I have lost 16 pounds. I hardly think it is slowing things down On the weekends, I chop up a head of cabbage, put it in a big pot with 2 cups of water mixed with a packet of ham-flavored bullion (sp?). It's my favorite veggie to have.

unfortunately I can not speak to the variation of client service among IP coaches. I will certainly ask my own coach what kind of training was required (mandatory) upon purchasing part of the IP franchise and find out how coaches remain current (does the head office send out communiqués for example, do they perform audits, are refresher courses available etc..) These, to me, are all important questions as I entrust my health (body & mind) in this person.
With respect to types of service, I've already noticed discrepancies throughout this forum. My only recommendation before looking at switching your coach, is to discuss this issue with him/her. For instance, your hydration level should be monitored so that you can get a somewhat accurate account of your body fat percentage. (This is not measured with a scale but with some type of electrode conduit.)
Also, you should request appropriate time allocated to you during your meeting - you are THE CLIENT, a paying client and as such, you are entitled to face time to discuss a variety of issues, either generally or specifically.
I'm sorry that they're treating you like cattle - it makes me mad!
It's a very good read, and simply written as well. It's clear, however, that the IP program has deviated somewhat from his instructions - one blatant variant for example relates to "unlimited vegetables" which, as you know is not the case with Phase 1, presumably to drastically reduce our carb intake.
Anyway - as long we all understand the body's processing mechanism and the platform of the IP program everything is Bon. :P
So, now I'm really confused. You stated above that your coach gave you tht list effectiveMarch, 2012. Did you? Or did you cut and paste it from Dr. Tran's site??

I don't have the electronic file for the revised Phase I protocol handout (dated March 20, 2012) but some differences include:
Reaching 100% of your goal weight in Phase 1
Meat is now 8oz
I simply quoted Dr. Chanh's book to address the cabbage question of this thread (Chinese cabbage over green cabbage).
I guess I also wanted to share my concern (frustration?) regarding the many discrepancies I've found on protocol, online, in this forum, and especially when from the Program's Founder.. sorry for the confusion :/
