Primal Blueprint: Quick and Easy Meals
Hi Guys,
I picked up this book from my acupuncturist's office, Primal Blueprint: Quick and Easy Meals - Mark Sisson and Jennifer Meier. Looking through it now, I could have used it in P1, just adapting some of the recipes. I am not moving to Paleo as a way of starting a new diet. I picked up this book to have some ideas for how to eat in maintenance, I hope. Like, sunnymae, I do much better with cleaner simpler foods. I always have. It was just that without IP it was too hard to transition to healthy fully. To me a balanced day was green/pea protein smoothie with banana for breakfast with organic salad or regular sandwich for lunch (maybe chips) and taco bell for dinner and frozen yogurt or cupcake after that. It worked. :lol:Nah. What I like about the book is that they spell it out and make it very simple for people. There is a picture of the finished product as well as pictures of all the ingredients. They also break down the nutritional info. so you can find the carbs, proteins, fats for any recipe serving. I like it when someone else does the work. The recipes are very, very simple and easy. Perfect for the novice. More advance chefs can tweak and enhance. Here is a sample: Smoked Salmon, Egg and Asparagus Roll Up 12 asparagus spears 12 eggs (oh my) 1/2 red onion 8 oz. wild smoked salmon 4 servings Cal: 334 Fat: 21g Carbs: 5g Protein: 30g They have a recipe for Lamb Burgers with Pistachio Pesto. It's up there in calories but I would cut back the nuts and amt of olive oil in the pesto. Anyway, I just wanted to share since I like things spelled out and nice and easy. The less thinking and calculating I have to do on my own the better. |

Sorry. No fruit here. I am allergic to lots of it, and just don't like most of the rest. Plus, to me it is just sugar now!
Mark sisson has a good blog too. The paleo diet is very interesting. I like him, dr eades of protein power and now one called the war on insulin. I expect to stay low carb, low grain indefinitely. |

I've only been in Phase 4 just over a month, but so far, so good! |

The Paleo Diet is really big now - my brother is going to try it too. I'm do enjoy my carbs, but I must say that now that anything is 'allowed,' I find myself not craving stuff like I used to. I'll have them, every now and then, and that's just fine. I like feeling good more than I like the carbs. |

Oops! My apologies... I really should have put this in today's chat threat. I sometimes come in to this Maintainers thread just to learn from what you all are experiencing ... and I totally forgot where I was when I posted the above earlier today. |
Hi everyone, I've been under the weather...it's my TOM, Remi (one of our 10 year old labs) is spending the night at the vet following surgery today... so my week has been blah...and it doesn't help that it's rainy and damp outside.
My last cheat days were last weekend...started Friday night with some wine...followed by pizza and more wine plus ice cream Saturday and then some more wine and Chinese and more pizza on Sunday! Damage..."up" 8.5 pounds. Today, finally down those lbs. I was so bloated I looked like I had been on steroid treatment. So relieved I went back down. Fortunately 'cause I'm sick I don't feel like eating much at all...swollen glands, achy body, slight sore throat. No fever...tired. Tired as heck! Tomorrow I will be much better once we get our Remi home... I'm realizing I became readdicted to chocolate during P1 of IP. I was drinking or eating it three times a day for five months! I have WF chocolate syrup but it's nothing compared to real chocolate or even IP chocolate... this is something I wish I had thought about while in P1...I've overdosed on alternative protein bars and REAL chocolate!!! (Those stinking cadbury mini eggs...still have over 1/2 a dozen large bags in my DH's safe.) Oh, sorry to keep going on and on...I'm exhausted and will be crashing again soon. Stay well all and can't wait to catch up and read how everyone's been. :) |

Since my husband started phasing this week (he's on P2 now) I started thinking about what we're going to do to get breakfasts ready on time. I found a lot of great ideas on Pinterest. There's a blogger that has healthy make-ahead breakfast ideas for smoothies, oatmeal, egg 'mcmuffins', etc.
Here's a link to the oatmeal ideas: http://www.theyummylife.com/blog/201...ferent+flavors From there you can see her smoothie and egg mcmuffin ideas as well. I was doing kind of the same thing with my fruit/yogurt/oatbran part of my breakfast, where I mixed it all together (see below) then covered it and put it in the fridge until after my shower so the oatbran and/or muesli has time to soften. Now that I don't have to eat my breakfast all at once like in P3, I take this part of my breakfast to work and eat it at 10am. My fruit/yogurt/oatbran: 3/4 cup Oikos non-fat yogurt 1cup strawberries or strawberries/blueberries or 1/2 medium apple pinch of cinnamon and vanilla powder 2 tsp Torani Sugar Free Syrup- raspberry or peach or vanilla (there are tons of flavors!) 2 tablespoons Oat Bran- sometimes I might add 3 or I'll add 1 tbsp of Muesli depending on what else I'm having for my grain-Carb's This is so good it's like dessert! In fact I had it for dessert last night because I didn't have any carbs or fruit with dinner. It was heavenly! I don't add any milk in my recipe like the blogger does but I use a lot less muesli and/or oat bran than she does oatmeal. The more dry ingredients you use, the thicker your mixture will be because both the muesli and/or oat bran soak up a lot of moisture in the yogurt. I do like her ideas for adding chia seeds, making these ahead (can refrigerate up to 3 days or freeze) and all the different flavor ideas like: mango/almond, blueberry/pomegranate, banana cocoa, raspberry/vanilla, banana/peanut butter (PB2), apricot/orange, pineapple/coconut, strawberry/banana, and whatever else you can think of! I'm excited to try these out :carrot: |
Well, I am still looking forward to maintaining. But, when I get there I am pretty sure my Reeses cups and Cadbury eggs are a thing of the past.
Has anyone tried raw whole chocolate products? I can"t wait to try it as my new chocolate. Just read "Why We Get Fat". A good one! |
If you like g taubes why we get fat (which is fantastic) go back and read his good calories, bad calories. So good.

I have to confess, I'm a chocoholic too. I have taken to eating little bits of Baker's chocolate. It has no sugar and really gets down to the flavor of the cocoa bean. Have not had 'regular' milk chocolate on maintenance yet, beyond the dreaded sugar-free Fannie Mae's. Someday I'll get a Snickers bar, as I used to love them, but really the Bakers, will do me just fine. I'm thinking of making my own nut clusters with the Bakers and maybe some Stevia. |
