Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA. Life has been super busy with work, travel, and all kind of stuff.

I kind of got attacked by the sugar monster/junk food monster myself and am above my "comfort zone" again. I've done well at P1 today, and hope to continue it for at least this week.

I do struggle with what to eat as a "snack" mid-afternoon on maintenance...any suggestions? Thanks so much!

I have been eating plain chobani yogurt with rhubarb! So delicious!

I still use the IP Banana Pudding packets for the night snack but I use the waffle recipe...2 egg whites whipped until foamy with a pinch of salt, then add baking powder, cinnamon, vanilla powder, the pudding pkt and about an 1/8 cup of water; mix well and then cook in a waffle iron for 3 minutes. Then I put a little WF syrup in a small dish (I don't like my waffles to get soggy with syrup) and dip waffles in it. YUM! If I didn't get enough oil for the day, I'll mix in a little less than 1/4 tsp of coconut oil. It smells wonderful!

Felafels? Oh my...there is a stand in San Jose that has the best ever felafels...haven't had one in years.

How do you make them?

If I did it right, I attached the recipes for sweet potato falafels and the tzatziki dip to go with them. The sweet potato recipe has a tahini sauce recipe at the bottom of the sheet but I think that would be considered a fat, so save that for a cheat day. I really like the tzatziki dip anyway, the tartness cuts the sweetness of the sweet potato. I used Bob's Red Mill Garbonzo Bean Flour.

There's an amazing falafel stand that opens every summer a couple blocks from my home. It opens next week! I can't wait to get some on my cheat day!!

Hi,
I hope you don't mind, I'm not maintaining yet, just reading ahead and getting ready. What is "vanilla powder"? Your recipe above looks great.
thanks,
Chloe

Good Eats and Wine..I am a Felafel, tahini, and tsatkis lover. I am excited to try your recipes.
Sarabean: How are you cooking your rhubarb that you eat with yogurt?

Pixl: That is wonderful that you are wearing size 8..and that you have stabilized!

Chloe: It might be dried vanilla beans that were ground?

Today I am going out to dinner at a pricey restaurant with friends! I also do not want to go back on P1 tomorrow!!!!!!

I will admit, I enjoyed my night out with my hubbie and thoroughly enjoyed my wine  , but I can see how in a few weeks I might not want to have all out cheat days once a week.

I was really craving pizza and I had one piece and could not believe how heavy it felt inside my body. I also ate a french fry with some real ketchup and couldn't believe how sugary the ketchup tasted! WOW!

I am beginning to realize that I only missed the idea of eating these foods.... Now that I can eat them I don't even want to. I feel SO much better when I eat clean! That is something I never knew or appreciated! THANKS IP!!!!

I think I will stay pretty much on track with a menu similar to phase 3 unless something spectacular comes up like when my good friend gets married in June or after my thesis defense in few weeks.

I couldn't agree with you more...I had my second cheat day and it included pizza and chinese food...I'm doing my second day of P1 today to get rid of all the yuckiness I feel...The chinese made me so bloated...I tried all of my favorites but nothing was a fav anymore...

I'll be scaling back on my "cheat" days in the future...the one thing I really like about the cheat day is you don't have to think to eat...but I can still eat without thinking but in a healthier way. Feeling like I do right now is not worth an overboard cheat...I don't think I binged...probably did.

:)

100-calorie pack of almonds, cheese, deli meat and cheese rolled together, plain yogurt (I like 2% fage). When I'm out and about, it's all about cheese and/or nuts now. I think that they are getting easier to find.

The vanilla powder that I got is from Raw Food World (ordered from Amazon.com but you can order it directly from rawfoodworld.com) has no additives, so no sugar added or alcohol added like that in extracts. It's as if you got vanilla pods and scraped out the vanilla bean but you don't have to mess with all the work. I got the idea from Finn- the amazing guy who has all IP recipes on this site.

The flavor and smell is wonderful...I can never go back to extracts or flavorings again. Raw Food World has the powder backordered until May 18th so I ordered more from Sunfood (also via Amazon.com); I should receive it today or tomorrow. I'll let you know if it compares well with RFW's!

Cottage cheese, nuts, those pre peeled hard boiled eggs!

I love phase 1! My biggest problem is adding enough to it to consider my diet reasonable for the long run...most week days I just stick to phase 1. This is what I have done all year and it works for maintaining...it also allows for some additions (almonds, eggs, cheese) if need be. My weekends are more relaxed, but still low carb, mostly.

Thanks Maile! They are pretty tasty...I really like the tzatziki dip for other things like dipping veggies. It has wonderful rich flavor for not using sourcream.

Sarabean and New Englander- Absolutely! ON my first cheat day I thought I was taking it easy because I chose only two things to cheat with...a cinnamon roll and a vegetable samosa. I had them on a Friday and didn't feel right until the following Tuesday! I had a terrible headache and my stomach felt queazy :(

On my second cheat day...I spread it out Friday thru Sunday and only at dinner. Everything was the same as my non-cheat days except I added 1-2 oz. of cheese and a glass of wine. For example,

on Friday along with my salad and protein I had a grilled cheese sandwich (w/apple slices in it), the bread was Ezekeil and fell under the carb category; and a nice glass of red wine.

Saturday we had the hamburger in a bowl...with grilled mushrooms and swiss cheese, with the WF 1000 Island dressing, we mix in some WF BBQ sauce and brown mustard; and a glass of red wine.

Sunday we made Tyler's Ultimate Mexican Pot Roast Tacos (recipe attached); we make the pot roast, shred it per the recipe and put on top of our salad. Then we top that off with 1 oz. shredded cheddar cheese and corn tortilla strips. and of course, a glass of red wine!

The corn tortilla strips are easy to make...using Bob's Red Mill Masa Harina, I use 3 (one tortilla) to 5 tbsp (two tortillas) per person with equal amount of hot water, mix and form into two balls per person. Leave in covered bowl on the counter for 30minutes to an hour. Flatten the balls between wax paper or plastic wrap, then season with salt or even homemade taco seasonings and cook in a hot pan for about 1-2 minutes until slightly browned. Let them cool and make strips - a pizza cutter/wheel is the easiest. The tortillas are 15g carbs for each 3tbsp mixture or 25g carbs for each 5tbsp mixture; which is under the 30g allowed carbs for dinner.

Then on Monday I did a P1 day but really felt like it could have been a P2 day. I felt so good, everything was tasty and I was plenty full! Of course there will be the occassional traditional cheat day due to holidays or big events but I can handle cheat days like this!

hmmm can't seem to find 100 cal packs here yet, and for some reason yogurt hasn't been sitting right so now am trying cottage cheese and that seems to be working. I also made pickled eggs this weekend and just have hard boiled eggs in the fridge for a fast treat to peel and go. I am still squeezing into my size 8 pants now have to start looking for summer clothing as I really don't have anything other than short shorts as my friend last year said I needed to show off my legs... but I am thinking NOT so much leg.

I just bought some vanilla powder today. Wasn't sure what to do with it, but it looked interesting. Also bought some pure anise extract to try and make home-made sugar-free licorice...

I just made pizza for lunch, where, instead of the cauliflower crust recipe I originally posted, that had cheese in the crust, I basically made a flatbread with just the cauliflower rice, eggwhites and soy protein powder, with some herbs too. The cheese-in-the-crust recipe stayed too soft to pick up, but this one makes a crisp, thin flatbread and it held up well to sauce and cheese, to where you could hold it in your hand to eat. Used a mix of fat-free mozza and regular mozza and some romano for my fats. It was wonderful...
