Default need help! sick with stomach flu

Sorry to start a new thread but I really don't think I can search through the forum right now . I am super sick with a stomach bug and have throwing up since last night. all I want is ginger ale and saltines and I can't eat them!

What do you do when you are sick and food is pretty impossible to eat. ginger ale has 59grams of sugar in it.... unfortunately I don't have diet at my house.

any ideas to help me stay op while this sick would be very appreciated.

Do you have any chicken broth? or a packet of crepe mix? you could make some "crackers" with the crepe mix.

Thanks for the idea. no crepe mix. but I do have chicken broth and miracle noodles. that might be bland enough to try. thanks wuv.

I feel awful. I haven't taken my vitamins either ... maybe in a few hours I will be able to hold something down.

Hi SaraBean,

I had a similar problem last week. I posted in the daily chat for any advice but no one really responded (guess people haven't been sick on IP?).

For me, I was having a hard time keeping down the "wet" food, although I found I was able to keep down the dry snacks. I ended up having two restricted items for two days last week until the uneasiness passed. I also made sure to get extra salt.

Do you have any fresh ginger in the house? Perhaps you can make your own ginger ale by adding to sparkling water or even some tea (might help settle your tummy).

I was never really sick while on IP so I can't speak from experience. Please make sure you get enough water to keep you from being dehydrated. If you have to have 2 restricteds a day, then I say do it. You need to eat something and veggies and lettuce just doesn't seem like things to settle your stomach. Maybe the puffs and ridges? I hope you are better soon.

Wanted to add: I think 2 restricteds a day is far better than not eating at all, as far as the diet is concerned. You would normally get carbs from the veggies anyway. If you aren't eating them, you shouldn't "hurt" yourself diet wise.

I got sick with strep throat while on P1. What I did is made a big (homemade) pot of chicken broth and pretty much lived on that for a couple of days.

Other than that, I wasn't sick at all. My advice would be to get better and worry about the diet when you can LITERALLY stomach it. Even though I had strep and could easily handle the shakes and puddings, I had no appetite for it. The though of the packets nauseated me. And salad and veggies? Good lord, that does not mix well with a stomach bug.

If it were me, I would stick to chicken broth or soup, saltines and ginger ale. The diet will always be there when you are better. Plus, stomach bugs don't usually last more than 24-48 hours. The choice is yours, but I say, take care of yourself first. Phase 1 will be there when you feel better.

Yes, make sure you drink plenty of water as well.

Oops, just saw that you wanted tips to stay OP. Chicken soup minus noodles is the only thing I can thing of and lots of water.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I finally gave in an had a glass of ginger ale. it made my stomach feel better long enough to sleep a little.....but in the long run I ended up throwing it all up. So hopefully I didn't kick myself out of ketosis. I am having my husband pick me up some fresh ginger and seltzer water on his way hone from work. I still haven been able to eat anything. the thought of food makes me sick.....

and unfortunately I don't have any of the puffs. I better those would be a good choice.
