As I read more and more I realize what a great coach I had. But I left the clinic and went to alternatives and am very happy that I did. It was partly because the clinic is an hour each way and my work schedule is hectic.

But it was also partly because I couldn't take the stress of the expectation that one should lose around 3 pounds by a particular time in a week. That stressed me out so bad I always weighed more on weigh in day than the day before and day after.

I am over 60 and that type of loss just wasn't going to happen.

I hated going through my journal with someone who was trying so hard to figure out what was going wrong when my journal was showing exactly what she had told me to do. I was losing 1 to 2 pounds a week.

So I went to alternatives and totally cut out the stress of being accountable to someone else.
I went to the clinic for August and September then continued on my own. I continued to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week and am now moving to maintenance.
I could have continued to go the official IP route and got to maintenance a bit quicker but I doubt it.

I think it was WUV who posted in response to someone else that it is your journey, not your coach's. You have to figure out what works for you. But stress doesn't work for anyone.

I have always been had great difficulty being told what to do; other people love the accountability of working with a knowledgeable coach.

It is hard to advise you what to do in your case as the clinic is attached to your chiropractor and you need to keep going there.

But losing sleep over what was actually a very successful two weeks is not helpful.

But on rereading this it seems you did do better with no restricteds. Your low loss this week may reflect that or may have been the result of the big loss last week.

Maybe try her strict protocol again this week and see how it goes. That way you will have more evidence if you happen to be super carb sensitive and may need a stricter approach. But cutting out the egg whites doesn't make much sense. They are a very low calorie source of quality protein so should only be good for you.

I hope you work this out; but please don't allow the coach to turn your success into a negative experience for you.

Pat

Thanks, Pat, shipa, bethanym, pegy, tenniels, purple sky for your caring, loving responses

Pat has echoed another item I tried to tell this coach. I'm almost 63 (she's probably 20 years younger) and weight loss just doesn't happen like that any more (age takes a real toll on your system).

I will not give up, but I have trouble getting past when people make me feel wrong even though I don't think I am but I can't prove it. Especially when I'm supposed to be the student, learning from them. I will give it another couple of weeks and then if it is not better, I will look for some alternative plan. I work full time and am so busy that I don't see having the time to do the analysis and searching for alternative items. Maybe what bethanym recommended, the IdealtoGo.

I would be so frusrtated without all of your wonderful support. Thanks over and over.

I am re-posting what I said in the "falling off the wagon" thread, because I could just cry about so-called "coaches" like this:

"I would have slapped her silly and quit her ON THE SPOT. No One has the right to do that to anyone else!! If you can't encourage and support someone, then you have no business being a coach. It is entirely possible to help someone be accountable AND encourage and support them at the same time. Kindness can go a heckuva long way, and belittling someone is NEVER the way. We do enough of that to ourselves. I am sorry that it did not go well for you on your own, but you were right -- anything was better than her. I think you would have ended up feeling worse about yourself than ever. This just steams me."

Trust YOURSELF. YOU know what is best for you, and to he** with the nay-sayers.

P.S. There is a TON of information on this board about alternatives. I use them. They WORK. I would be happy to help.

We are twins!!! I was 63 when I started too. Your coach will someday be post menopausal too and hopefully see the error of her ways.

I also work full time in a very demanding job.The alternatives are not hard at all if you check out the alternative threads under the stickies at the beginning of each daily or weekend post. You can check out the nutritional numbers for each of the IP products and then compare the same type of thing on the Nashua site.

But if I were American I would do IdealtoGo for sure. We can't do that in Canada. The IP products are very good and the recipes your coach doesn't like make the program so much more fun. I make them with alternative products but they don't work as well, acceptable but sure different.

Actually I wouldn't even wait for another week, I try to see if you can join that right away. They may not let you because there is a clinic in your area, I'd tell them I travel a lot or something. I know NavyMom is able to use it because she is moving while doing the program. She has posted how she can ask her coach things by phone. If you can join you will have the best of both worlds, the better products and control of your own program and access to a coach on your terms.
Even my very knowledgeable coach didn't understand the older you are the slower this is going to be. But IP still works wonderfully well, it just takes a bit longer.

good luck and despite your frustration you have made an excellent start.

Pat

Proud of me! Went out to dinner with family and everyone ate the rolls (which I'm told were delicious) AND ordered dessert...and I didn't have a bite. It felt so good! Of course, I wouldn't have minded a dive into the breadbasket followed by a swim in my daughters 10 layer chocolate cake....but I came home, opened up a pack of choco soy puffs, and said YOU GO GIRL! Granted, it was my second restricted of the day...but I am so ok with that after such temptation at dinner! Healthy choices, smarter choices - it's so good to change our thinking and our habits.

Good job to all of you who are dealing with social situations this weekend!

And for those of you with stinky coaches...like many have said before me - this is YOUR process. If it happens slower for you, no worries. It's happening. Part of shedding the excess weight is changing our habits, our thought cycles. Don't underestimate the positive changes you're making, and don't let the scale be your master! (Now someone remind me of this when I am disappointed by a weigh in!) :)

I love yoga pants too. Lulu is my best friend ;) but I do remember the year I slowly gained weight that I rarely wore jeans.
I am now in a nice size 6 jeans, but I still love my lulu's! Of course, I am at the gym every day, do I need them!

I'm out of salt from my beginner pack and was wondering what exactly I'm searching for in its replacement...

sea salt that is iodized?

I thought I've been watching. Did you ever get an answer on this? I am very interested, too. My beginner pack had Real Salt Sea Salt. It's supposed to be better with the minerals, etc. in it. But, I don't know if that's just hype. I had been looking out on the Real Salt website when you posted your question. I hoped to see an answer that would help me (and you) decide.

Coaches

Thought with all the coach talk that this would be a good time to introduce myself. Our office began working with Ideal Protein about a year ago. Our current coach is moving on to another job so in a week I will be our office's official coach. When we first brought IP into our office I went through the coach's training (not planning to coach - just to educate myself on the product) and I just went through the training again last week. I also have been on the program for a few months so I'm very familiar with how the program works. I've been a stalker for quite ahwile on here and I have been amazed at all the mis-information that that gets presented. I'm not sure if it is the coaches not being clear enough or their being uneducated (which shouldn't even be an option!). We all have a regional rep who can answer ANYTHING about the program if there is a question so I'm not sure why the confusion on what's restricted or not, etc.. At any rate I would appreciate any feedback you have. The coaching style of our office is to encourage and educate so that IPers are motivated to reach their goal and then maintain it!! (I would encourage WingnutandMe to contact IP and let them know of your coach "issues". For example: restricteds are on the program for a reason and IP corporate needs to know if a coach is telling you different - that is the only way they will know they have a coach they need to address.)

While I am excited to do some coaching we will be looking to hire another coach as I am the personal assistant to a doctor and it is a full-time plus job! While I am coaching though I want to get everything down pat so I can help the new coach that will be coming in. Thanks for listening! :)

Buy non iodized sea salt. Or pink Hymalayan salt.

Thanks for your information and opinion as a coach.

My coach is my chiropractor's wife. I am trying not to jeopardize that relationship as it's not always easy to find a new chiropractor that you like. I guess I should be tough enough to not let this bother me, but the weight loss journey itself is tough enough. Their office is new with IP. I was the fourth person to sign up and those others have pretty much dropped out now from what I hear. They offer an open house every few weeks and have signed up a couple more recently. So, I'm sure as time goes on, she will gather more personal education, plus more product education. I will stick with it as I can see the plan works and it is my only hope.

Thanks again

Remember that you are an adult and can make good decisions. If you like your chiropractor then use them for those issues. If they are no employing good coaches or being supportive to you with IP then speak up and tell them. This program costs ALOT of money and you should not dread going there. My clinic is also at my chiropractors office and there is one coach that I really don't like to see. I finally told the doctor and another coach that I would really appreciate it if they could make it so I don't see that coach. They have accomodated me and it was not an issue. I am a believer in speaking up. Maybe the coach does not realize how you feel and how hard they are being on you. Just a thought.....

Thanks, you're the best! That file is so helpful!!

Crstyne 03-03-2012 10:07 PM

We are a chiropractic office as well so I can totally understand you not wanting to jeopardize your relationship with your doc! Obviously the reason people are dropping off is because of the coach and IP will notice that they aren't ordering product, etc. so hopefully it will get fixed for you. I admire you for sticking with the plan despite the struggle with your coach! IP offices are opening all the time so if things don't get better keep checking to see if another office has moved in close to you. The program really does work but like anything else it isn't always easy and although you may not have an encouraging coach you have all the wonderful people on here to root for you!
