Last night as I was falling asleep, I suddenly wondered if I lose weight and get to my goal - which I haven't seen in almost 40 years - if I will look way older.
I'm 60 and I wonder if I'm thin will I look older and will my face deflate and be full of wrinkles.
I started wondering if being fat is better than that.
Any older people on here lost weight and feel they look better and/or younger? Or do you think you look older?
weight does make you look younger because your face is fuller. my mom lost weight on IP last year -- and she felt her face was a little older looking so she got botox. However, i think she looks younger....her figure is trim. She now wears cuter clothes. Her skin is healthier. Maybe she is right, maybe a few more wrinkles show -- however, wrinkles aren't the only way you look old. Carrying the extra weight and wearing baggy clothes made her look older and more rundown in my opinion.
fyi, she is 52 and many ppl think she is younger-- like in her early 40s.
I've heard people say they look older after weight loss, but I think it's individual. My mom has lost weight (dropped from a plus size 18/20 to regular size 12 I think, and still losing) and I don't think she looks older. She is in her late 50s
My monster, I mean mother in law, says she KNOWS this diet and I will age at least 10 years.
I will be 30 next year so I'm not worried. Maybe it's the wrinkles she's talking about. She smokes 3 packs a day so I don't take health advice from her.

Oh that's funny. Yeah she KNOWS this diet! LOL
Actually when I was telling my daughter in law about it and told her about my first weeks weight loss, my son just said 'that's not healthy'. I told him 'I don't care - being 80 lbs overweight isn't healthy either."
He is on the paleo diet and he is an exercising, weight-lifting, extreme sports, MIXED MARTIAL ARTS freak. He's also always bossing me around.
Honestly, it's different for all of us. I think I was doing ok when I was a size 12 but now that I'm a 10, my face is really showing my age. I too am 60. I'm saving for a face lift. I don't think it's better to stay fat because obesity is a big killer. I'd rather have the oportunity to exerperience being old, even if I look older. The thought of heart disease, dialysis, stroke, altzheimers which my parents had, is not appealing enough to keep fat on my face to look younger. I can now easily go for 10 mile hikes which far exceeds sitting plumply on a couch. I thought I was looking good - neck up - at 249 in a size 24 pants, but really.... not so much!
Jackie, you never say how much weight you need/want to lose so it's always difficult to know how to answer you. Shedding 10 or 20 pounds is way different than 100.
I am 60 and have lost 80 pounds..oddly enough you look younger as your body is thinner, your cheekbones are more defined, and you are wearing younger looking clothes. People tell me I look younger. However, you do lose fat in your face and wrinkles may appear. I went to a dermatologist who has me on a Biagi skin program with retinA..this gets rid of old skin and regenerates new skin.
I would make sure to take good care of your skin while you are losing.
I am only five foot tall and I'd be THRILLED to be under 130 - I haven't been there for 40 years. I would need to lose 70 to 80 pounds.
People usually think I'm younger than I am but that might change if I get skinnier and more lines. I am going to be trying botox this fall actually. I am currently having microdermabrasion and laser genesis and vein therapy and it's really helping. In fact it was the esthetician that told me about IP.
Talking about facelifts - have you heard of lifestyle lift? I called them the other day when I saw a commercial for it. Less invasive than a real facelift and done under local anesthetic. And costs less although they are only available in the US so I would have to travel to some US city for it.
I am not on IP but I have returned to the weight I was at 18. I am in my 50's. I still have more to lose. Most people who comment on my weight loss tell me how much younger I look.
I think age/appearance is a complicated issue that isn't just about the wrinkles or skin. It also is the shape of your face, the prominance of your eyes, the way you dress and carry yourself.
Oh I am so happy to hear these good news stories. Maile I am starting to take better care of my skin, mostly because I'm paying all this money for the treatments so I thought I better. And I really can't believe the improvement in my look based on the microdermabrasion and especially getting rid of the broken veins.
I am 64 and only 5'1". I think the key thing about this is having a realistic goal. When I was young a good goal for me would be around 110 but now my goal is 130.
That is because I don't want to lose too much off my face and if as we get older we may have an illness and it is best to have a bit of weight and not become super frail.
I think a huge part of it is dressing appropriately for your age and wearing colours and makeup which suit your new coloring, not what you wore at 20.
The other day at Walmart ( where else), I was behind two woman with a baby. One was very fit and looked like she worked out, the other a little chubby. When they turned around the fit woman was shocking. They were obviously the baby's mother and grandmother. The grandmother had died her hair jet black, was wearing very colourful eye make up, rouge and lipstick and was wearing short cut offs and extreme gladiator sandals. She was in great shape but looked scary. So it's a variety of things but I think key is to have a realistic goal set.
I'm laughing about the Walmart story. So true about dressing our age, what what does that mean anymore? On the weeked, I live in yoga pants, t-shirt and running shoes. I only dress more than that if I'm going out. I'm always ready to be active.
People never think that I'm 60. But that said, when I take a very very close up of my face, I can see my journey there.
I have not read anything good about the lifestyle lift. Read reviews of people who are not selling it and you may change your mind.

That scary grandmother story is hilarious.
Wow I'll have to look deeper into lifestyle lift. What a disappointment. Facelifts in Canada can apparently cost about $20000. Holy smoke.

Funny he should say it's not healthy, with him being on Paleo and all. Paleo is not all the different than IP. The main difference is you are allowed fruit on Paleo and a little more fat. Other than that, it is right on target with IP (no grains, no dairy, no sugar).
