I have been trying to start eating a few more vegetables. I have been stuck on spinach for about two months. Today I bought some fresh asparagus. I sauted it in a frying pan with some chicken broth and then sprayed it with some I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. Very yummy. Tonight I shredded two small zucchinis and cut up a stalk of rhubarb - microwaved it all for several minutes, added some cinnamon and some truvia. Yum, tasted like applesauce. I almost licked the bowl that I made it in - one of the first times that I wished I could have more than 2 cups of veggies!!! I have a huge rhubarb plant in the garden - now I just have to get some zuchinnis to grow.
I had a great NSV yesterday. I went shopping with my sister and my niece. They talked me into trying on a pair of size 12 jean capris. They fit!!! They also talked me into buying a tankini in a medium. It is a size 8-10 - I can actually get it on! Definitely not something I would currently wear out in public but by the time it gets warm enough here - it will fit well enough. :carrot: I am so looking forward to summer this year!

Hello ladies.

I've been reading thru all the IP threads lately, and I am seriously thinking about trying this WOL. I don't have a lot of extra cash on hand, and I'm afraid of making an appointment only to walk away with nothing. I keep reading about an alternative... can anyone clarify this for me? Is it a way to do the program without all the costly products? Is there anyone on site from the canadian prairies who is doing this and can give me an estimate of the cost? I can't seem to find much help on the IP website.
Thank you.

Laura, there are alot from Sask on here, Im just west, in Wainwright Alberta, and my first week (with consult, 1st week food and vitamins) was $260.
It may seem like a lot but the way I looked at it, I couldn't afford NOT to do this diet.

Laura G, try this site: http://www.trantiendiet.com/site/spip.php?rubrique19

Also, you can purchase at costco some shakes (can't remember the name but they come in a package of 18 for around $25). The shakes have very similar nutrition to the IP packages.

Thank you ladies. I'm actually from Lloydminster, so Wainwright is very close. Tell me honestly please, is it worth it? It sounds too good to be true.

When the website says a measure of protien, does that mean I can use my own protien powder? I currently use Weiders Whey Protien - it is 100% whey protein isolate with 20 g protein per portion, 90 cals and 1g carb, and sweetened with sucralose.

This is my favorite way of getting veggies down right now. Never tried adding the zucchini though. It's very yummy with just rhubarb though.

Yes, it's worth it. And yes, you could use that protein powder. One of the perks of the IP protein packets though is that they include all the necessary amino acids that the rest of the diet doesn't supply.

Thank you.

I asked my coach at my last weigh in if she has ever calculated what it costs per day, including the vitamin supplements. She says is averages to about $12.80/day. Not too bad when you look at it that way - Usually one meal at a restaurant costs more than that - at least it does in Saskatchewan.

Thank you. The powder I`m using has an amino acid label showing all the aa`s. Would anyone be willing to compare my powder to the IP packets? Please pm me if you are willing. I'm sorry to be such a nuisance, but what vitamins do you need to take? I have a cupboard stocked full already, and maybe I can use what I have for now until I can save the money for the program vit's.
I've tried atkins before, and I actually enjoyed the feeling of increased energy, but this diet seems more realistic to me. I'm not unfamiliar with low carb dieting, but I want to get it right. I've seen the protocol sheets that Jordana posted, and I think I can manage the food part of the diet, but I could still use some guidance with the rest of it.
I feel like a free-loader - trying to do this without paying - I'm sorry if I've offended anyone since you have all put so much money into it.

Our hospital offers fresh produce for sale on Fridays during the growing season and I got a screaming deal on rhubarb that I just couldn't pass up. :-) Yum!

Honestly, my first thought was that you're looking for a reason to not start again. I'm not trying to be harsh, just real. Have you read Dr. Tran's book that this diet is based on? There is a link to it in the opening post . If you haven't read it, you should. I too am a medical professional and had my concerns about this program as well. But then I read his book, began to understand the science of this program and why it works and IT MADE SENSE TO ME. I was never comfortable with Atkins because I didn't understand how something where you could eat that much fat could possibly be healthy.

You may be having a hard time getting past the first day or two BECAUSE THEY SUCK. The first couple days are just awful, but it gets better! If you eat your packets & your veggies, your body is not starving itself. I know that it seems that only consuming 900 calories in a day seems like far too few, but just think of it like this - for every pound of fat that you carry on your body, that is 3500 calories that are available for your body to burn. When I started this program, I was at least 70 lbs overweight. That 70 lbs gave me a calorie bank of at least 245,000 to spend. I have now lost 70.8 lbs and my savings account is getting mighty empty!

I can't tell you much about weight gain after going off the program. I've started phase 3 this week and will hit maintenance at the beginning of June so I haven't been there yet. The only thing that I can tell you is that if you gain the weight back (besides the 3-5 lbs buffer as you rebuild your glycogen reserves), it is because you are letting it happen. Following the maintenance plan, if you follow it, you should not put the weight back on. But if things get a little crazy and you put 10 lbs on, this program teaches you how to quickly take it back off again! But if you ever think that you're going to be able to go back to eating the way that you did before, don't bother starting up again, because you WILL put the weight back on.

This program has changed my life - I know that I eat far healthier now than I did before I started. My cholesterol and blood presure are lower and I have lost 1/3 of my body mass, making my back and knees very happy! My doctor is ecstatic. I am soooo much healthier now than I ever was at 213.2 lbs. So, think about it and make a decision to do it right for a week. Push through it - drink tea, water, eat pickles, go for a walk, DE-CARB your house! Commit to a week and see what happens. And then commit to another week. And another one. And come back here and let us encourage you. YOU CAN DO THIS!

very well said! i need encouragement right now, i've been struggling to get under 140. i was very active this weekend with alot of lifting and helping with renovations and i really thought i'd be under 140 this morning, but no i gained .4 in the two days i was gone and it burns my butt to be stuggling like this. and my eating was quite good and i drank more water than usual too. any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
