  • Quote: How bad will the cranberry juice mess up the diet...ketosis and all that??
it would definitely kick you out of ketosis....I would get some anti-biotics and drink TONNES of water you need to flush it out of your system. I had a UTI last fall and once they give you the anti-biotics it makes a difference really quickly (just don't stop taking them till their all gone like I did and have it come back!) but yes they are horribly uncomfortable
  • whoops I just read your first post...I always forget about the health care in the states I just assume everything is free....maybe research some home remedies that don't require sugar???
  • I popped a mint into my mouth last night!!!

We were at the hospital visiting my father-in-law and my mother-in-law handed us each a mint. I took it and popped it in my mouth. I sucked on it for less than a minute before I realized what I had done... I immediately took it out and threw it away. I hope I didn't kick myself out of ketosis. Ugh! That was so dumb of me!
  • Quote: I don`t want to go to the ER and pay a big bill just to get an antibiotic.
You'll get quicker relief getting an antiobiotic, but find an Urgent Care clinic rather than to going to an Emergency Department IF there's one in your area. They are less expensive than an ER for non-emergent illness and the wait time to be seen is usually much shorter.

I've used the one nearest us... still 40 miles a way... a couple of times on weekends. Much prefer it to the ER!!!
  • This is a stay at home day. Rainy 50 degree day, good day to be in. I'm on phase 1 today, had my "fun" day yesterday. Going to have stir fry for lunch. I like not being over weight. Be glad when spring weather gets here, I know all of you will be too.
  • Third weight in today. Down 13 pounds in 3 weeks! I love IP!
  • Quote: Good Morning all you IP Champions. Good luck today with everybody who has a weigh in today and I hope everyone has a great NSV this weekend. Keep running the IP Marathon everyone. I have my second weigh in today after going on phase 2 and will report back to you all later. Hang in there you can all do this.
COUNTS: you are doing great, when did you start IP, because I started in Nov. and have only lost 55 lbs and recently only maybe 10 in last month, I am almost to my goal tryng to decide if I should move on to phase 2 or stay here a little longer only want to loae 5 more pounds and am losing one pound per week right now.
    Quote: Happy Friday everyone!

Congratulations on those who had WI's and on the NSVs!

I know it hasn't been long but I have already noticed something missing from my life since being on IP: anxiety attacks, irritability, digestive problems and bouts of "depression" (I use quotations because any professional that I've seen says that it's not "depression", it's just "the blues" but I beg to differ). I am wondering if this will keep up? I am also wondering which is the culprit: refined sugar or gluten? I've had the blood test for celiac twice in the past and it came back negative but... wow! I feel like my old self again (before marriage and children and so on)!

It's denim day at work today and my jeans (size 15) were fitting a little loose around the waist and it made my stomach look puffy... so, I went out at lunchtime and I tried some on that were the same brand: I would have gone from a size 15 to a size 11!!! ...but I thought that the 11 looked a bit tight (although the salesgirl insisted they would stretch) and the price was $36, which is not bad but I decided to wait (the size 13 was loose and I don't want to pay too much for something I hope will be too big soon).

So, I went to another store and I found THE perfect pair of jeans for $19.99 (+ tax)! Size 13!!! I am so happy! I wear jeans every weekend and they are a bit tight but they look fantastic and I've already received comments from at least 2 different colleagues! For now, I will just wash in cold water and hang dry and if they become loose, I can wash in warmer water and throw them in the dryer!

I also bought nail polish! ...I haven't done that in a long time! This process is making me into a "girly girl" again! I actually care about "me". Today was about "me"... not my kids... not my husband... "me"!

I also picked up my next week's worth of IP groceries (week 3) and I am looking forward to trying the apple cinamon soy puffs and some restricted items (spaghetti, choco-raspberry bar). I am also looking forward to having salt and vinegar ridges again! I feel like I just made a "junk food" run! Of course, I will make sure to only have one (R) per day and to spread them out but I mostly like them for the weekends! ...but WI is on Monday at lunch time (mid-day with clothes), so I have to be careful!

I think I am going to get on the WII Fit Plus this weekend and see how that feels!

    congratulations you are doing great.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Quote: Isn't it great?? I also feel better - healthier - happier - and more energetic. I'm more hungry now than I was in the beginning but am learning that if I mix it up a bit it helps. Try crushing the salt and vinegar ridges (just a few) into the tomato basil soup. It's yummy. Congratulations on the jeans. Mine are literally falling off - I've never worn a belt in my life but will until I'm down one more size. I need smaller bras too - for me that's big! Well, ok - small. I love it - no more feeling like my boobs enter the room 10 minutes before I do. Woo Hoo
My bras are getting to big as well, which is great because I once had a very large set and could not lose from there, had reduction in 2003. gained weight there as well , now they are back to where they are a nice size.

Well WI today do not think I have lost much this week, unsure if should move to phase 2 or not or hang in there for another week. I am so close, but it is coming off so slow now. Anyway good luck to everyone else.
  • Quote: Hi I have a dumb question WDW related... Is Turkey Legs a big thing for everywhere in the southern states? or just at Disney? I saw them in California and at Florida... just kind of wondering, it was just odd to see.

They are a big deal here in the MidWest. They have them at Busch Stadium home of the St. Louis Cardinals, Six Flags and in Silver Dollar City in Missouri. I love their juicy smokey flavor...yum!
  • Quote: Have you looked at the recipe threads for ideas about the puddings....personally I like to add ice to mine and blend. There are other things you can add to make them more tasty, for the vanilla I like cinnamon and nutmeg. For the choc I sometimes add some SF toasted marshmallow DaVinci syrup or SF hazelnut syrup. For the Banana it's also good with cinnamon. I think for me the key is blending it with ice, you can even add more water to make it thinner if this is what you prefer. Hope this helped!!

As for the big "C" I used over the counter generic something from rite aid. But there is a way to use warm water and I think it's 1/4 tsp sea salt, I hear this works but I also hear that you better plan on being home for a while after you drink this.
Maggiemagu and Shrinking Sandra: I have tried the warm water recipe and it really works. I like it because it starts to work within the hour and I'm pretty much "cleaned out". I don't have the cramping or the hours of wait time I have with a laxative. I've only had to do it once. As long as I take my fish oil tablets (1200m mg 3x) and use my olive oil it keeps things "slippin and sliddin" out. Make sure you are also eating a lot of green leafy veggies like spinach.

Quote: I have a question. When it comes to constipation, are over the counter laxatives okay to use?

today I am on day 5. I feel full all the time, and have a hard time finishing my food. This is something very new to me. I was the kind of person who would get home from a buffet and go look in the fridge. I just can't stand the puddings, and am having a hard time getting them down.
  • Tomorrow I am starting Phase 2. I seem to have plateaued for the last few weeks but overall I am down in weight by 56 pounds. I want to phase off because my son is getting married in June and I want to enjoy all the festivities in May and June, before and during the wedding. So my plan is to phase off between now and the middle of April and by the end of April be on maintenance.

I am sure that part of the reason for the plateau is I have been on IP for six months now. I feel that by going off and maintaining I will give my body time to adjust to my new weight. Will be very, very careful not to gain any weight back, or if I do I will get it off right away.

I am now in a size 8 or 10 depending on the cut and am happy with that, although I would still love to be down about 25 more pounds. Starting to look for a mother-of-the-groom dress!! It is so exciting to not be afraid of shopping or of cameras!

Wanted to resolve my maintenance in this public forum because I feel like you are all my friends in weight loss. I don't post a lot, but I do read the forum almost every day and will continue to attend and post off and on!
  • Hello everyone! I just posted in the introductory thread, but I thought I'd join you here and repost a question (though I haven't quite made it through all the informative 'sticky' threads)

How much exercise do you suggest I do on this plan? I do try to get on the elliptical trainer at the gym 3-4 times a week but since being on the diet I can only hack about 35 minutes, going slower than my old rate. I also do a little pilates on the mat at home (I need this badly for my poor back)

Would this be enough, or is there something else you'd suggest? What has worked for you guys?

thanks, and nice to meet you all. ~L.
  • Good Morning fellow IP'ers....I had a very rough Friday evening. I so wanted to cheat and also have a cocktail....I didn't though, I stayed strong. I haven't cheated at all since day 1. What I mean by that is..I haven't tasted, tested or had just one of anything. I have had a 1 planned off protocol evening and one weekend away from home at a funeral that I also had a planned evening off protocol. But last night I really wanted to just eat, I don't know why because this is pretty unusual for me....I'm proud of myself for staying strong.

Looking forward to reaching goal only 5 pounds on my coach's scale but it's only 1.5 on my scale...

    Have a great day everyone!!!
  • I love this plan
    good Saturday everyone. Great NSV

I got up my usual and took the dogs to the offleash and ran into a friend I haven't seen since before IP. so about 6 weeks ago. She didn't recognize me until I spoke. That is the best feeling ever. she was so impressed on my weight lose she also asked how I did it so I told her. She is a great friend and was so happy for me. i suppose it didn't help I was wearing my baggy insulated pants. but she can't wait for it to get warmed up to see me in real clothes instead of bundled up. but it got to be working for her to notice even with heavy winter clothes on. good way to start the weekend. Enjoy everyone.

You continue to be strong and you are one for us newbies to look up to. I am proud of you.

I've never been to Disney World, and Disney Land was years n years n years ago when I was a kiddo. But Turkey Legs are definitely popular around here, especially at fairs and such. Our hospital cafeteria also serves them up at least once a month. They don't quite have all the yummy smoke flavor the fair legs do, but for a serving line, they're not bad at all. And if I pick off the skin and fat, they do nicely for my daily meat serving!
