  • Lalison, glad to hear the weight lose has picked up.

So today is phase III for me. I am trying to make breakfast and thought I would get on the forums first and see what everyone else was up to.

I have been posting some on the life after thread but feel this one gets a lot more action. I am sure it is due to there lives not being centered around all the support that was needed in phase I. Anyway, I will be having a whole wheat bagle thin, one egg, 2 peices of bacon, a greek yogurt and I think 1/2 of an apple. Not sure if this is to much or not enough, but my coach told me not to worry about all the calculations and just enjoy my breakfast.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hi Mama, Ally is in Vegas with BF, I think she said she would be back tues or wed...
  • During my grocery shopping trip Friday, for a change, they had some good looking cucumbers... I realized it had been ages since I had cukes in my salad, so I grabbed a few... now I'm thinking my laying off cukes for many months might have contributed to my slow weight loss (yeah, I know that's not the only reason, but it had slowed even before perfect protocol came apart at the seams in December & I haven't had cukes since before Thanksgiving).. anyway, I found this interesting info on a diet blog that might explain what I've been missing:
Cucumber has been used with great success in weight loss diets, which have worked just great because the cucumber is also a great diuretic. What is a diuretic, you would ask. Well, a diuretic is any chemical (or drug), which encourages the removal of fluids form the body. When used in the right proportions, a diuretic would accelerate the metabolism and expel with the waste fluids a good deal of fat cells as well – just as a large flush of water would wash away whatever it crosses in its path. The diuretics are, as a matter of fact, capable (and often do) to break down large fatty deposits into tiny pieces, which can be easily flushed out from your body. In this process, you will lose your fat cells in a rapid and systematic manner while at the same time remove the excess water from the body as well.

  • Happy Mother's Day to mothers and all those who have had mothers. My MDay gift? I found out my 2-year old granddaughter is going to have a sister. Greatest gift ever.

And Sheshie, mushrooms, celery, and asparagus are also good diuretics. Great to jump-start a loss. I love cucumbers with dried dill weed and a little vinegar on them. Like pickles, without the salt. Yum.

Edit: for those of you who have trouble digesting cucumbers -- eat Japanese seedless cucs or take the seeds out of regular cucumbers. It's the seeds and the membrane around them that causes indigestion.
  • Thanks, Linden... Happy Mother's Day to you too!..

& thanks for the info on mushrooms & asparagus... I've been having a couple of asparagus spears cut up in my salads, but perhaps that's not enough to see the diuretic effect... the cucumbers with dill & vinegar sound delish!.. thanks for the suggestion...

    hugs

Thanks for the info. That girl really gets to travel a LOT! I say as I wipe the dog hair off of my computer screen. My reason for not traveling!
  • Feeling discouraged and sorry for myself....so I could wallow longer in this misery or pick myself up and dust myself off (I think I will do the second one).

I have been back on protocol for 19 days now and I am only down 3 pounds. But with that said...I have not been perfect.....I have been very close to perfect, but I have been having 3-4 cups of coffee a day and putting a little shake and some half and half in each coffee. I also had about 10 ounces of NY Strip for Mother's Day lunch yesterday, but no dessert no anything else...not even a veggie...can you believe the only veggie they had was carrots. I ate 6 almonds on Saturday. But I walk and carry my clubs for 9 holes of golf every day so I thought maybe it might wash out and I walk my dogs every day. Oh well.

So no coffee this week. I am going to be perfect every day. Also I was drinking about 72-90 ounces of water and I am going to get 100 every day.

Here's to no whining! Have a great day everyone
  • I had a dream last night that I ate a whole bag of Candy Hotlips and the whole time I was eating them I kept asking myself what I was doing and kept thinking it's ok, this is only a dream, wake up wake up!!! I was pretty relieved when I woke up.
  • Quote: Holy Moly...thanks for the recipe, but you look AMAZING Congrats on all your weight and inches lost!
Thk you for your kind words.

YOU can do it .... you have an amazing attitude towards this plan, and as you said, your plan to phase off for the summer might be just the break you need.

Drink the coffee, skip the half-and-half. I used to think I couldn't drink coffee without milk - turns out, if I add enough sweetener, I can. Work the things you ARE allowed to have, turn them into treats, without adding the things you can't have.

I did find that having extra milk in my coffee - even if it's just an extra ounce of skim - made a difference in my weight loss. But it's hard to give up coffee, so... I compromised.

You don't have to be *perfect* - but it helps to know what to cheat with. Have extra protein, or extra veggies (just not the occaisional veggies) if you need to eat more. Have salad (watch out for the dressing tho - I like rice vinegar and salt, and olive oil if I haven't had it in my veggies). Herbal tea with sweetener in it helps with the not having dessert.

    Good luck!

Oops. I didn't realize who I was replying to. ;-)
Now I feel silly giving advice to the master.

Take it in the spirit it was intended - you *know* you can do this, you've done it before.

    Good luck, Darbs!

I have dreams like this. Usually carbs of some kind, and at some point in the dream I start freaking out that I'm not supposed to have them and I've screwed everything up. ;-)
  • Phase 3 Breakfasts
So, I'm starting to think about moving to phase 3 soon, and the breakfasts confuse me. I really liked the simplicity of the first two phases, because they told me exactly what to eat, how much of it, and I didn't have to think about how many carbs or grams of protein are in which.

I was reading through the phase 3 docs last night and got confused. We're supposed to have 30 grams of carbs from grains, 20 from fruit, 25g of protein, 120 calories of dairy and 15g of fat - but, is that cumulative? The charts I have say that eggs have significant amounts of carbs in them - do I add that in to the carbs I get? And do they go in the grains or fruits category? Does the protein from the dairy count toward the 25g you get? Or is that a separate thing?

I'm probably overthinking this. Anybody with experience with Phase 3, I would love your input.
