Phase 3- breakfast day 2

1 piece of Ezekiel bread
1 tablespoon and a tsp. of almond butter (Marantha)
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup strawberries
1 cup 0% fat Greek yogurt (Green Mountain Creamery)
1/16 Bare Naked Maple granola

Learned that blueberries are higher in carbs than strawberries. Was a little high in carbs yesterday, so I cut back the granola to a sprinkle.

AmberLS 06-01-2014 12:02 PM

looking for phase 2 sheet, found all the other phase sheets.

AmberLS 06-01-2014 12:15 PM

Never mind I googled it and found it

How are you feeling so far, Slipfree?

Any light-headedness or feeling weird after breakfast?

Hope things are going well. :)

Slipfree 06-01-2014 07:53 PM

Hi Sylviesgirl,

Nope! I feel great. Worked in the yard/garden for 6 hours. Tons of energy and no hunger at all.

How about you? Getting ready to make the jump to Phase 3?

Slipfree 06-01-2014 10:24 PM

If I do, it will be on Saturday. I want to see my weigh in on Wednesday, first. I haven't weighed since we were on vacation over Memorial Day weekend because the following Wednesday (my weigh in day), I had a horrid cold and had taken cold medicine. So I have no idea where the scale is. As long as nothing unexpectedly horrible has happened (and there is no reason it should have), I plan to take the plunge on Saturday. :o

So glad you are feeling so great!

Slipfree 06-02-2014 05:51 PM

So far it has been going very well. I was a bit worried about eating so early this morning, have to leave for work at 7. Everything went fine.

Realized that I like the Ezekiel Bread better than the English muffin. Tomorrow, I am going to try a paleo almond loaf bread.

I hope your WI is fantastic and that you take the plunge :)

So, were you less hungry w/o the waffles, Slipfree? Those waffles caught my eye because they are on sale this week.

I don't know why you're not getting more participation on this thread, but it sure is very helpful to me, so thanks!

I'm coming over, Slipfree! Taking the plunge this Saturday!! I need to decide what I am going to eat and then hunt & gather it all. I told my husband and son -- big breakfast Saturday morning, at the dining room table! Be there or be square. LOL

P.S. I hope you will take it as a compliment that you look just like Meg Ryan in your cute haircut and aviators! (The cute Meg Ryan from the 90s. ;) I don't know what my girl did to herself after that.)

Slipfree 06-04-2014 06:02 PM

Definitely less hungry w/o the waffles. Also felt pretty bloated yesterday. A bunch of Oct. Newbies are right behind me with Phasing off. I figure that if I post my breakfasts, it will be a resource for them when they are ready.

I am so glad that you have decided to take the plunge! We can not diet forever, we have to learn how to maintain our healthy new bodies. The task can seem a little daunting! Sat. Was a great day to start, because I had more time at home to see how my body reacted.

Thanks for the compliment! I used to get told that I look like Jodie Foster, lol.

Okay, here I come! I took the plunge, and here is what I had (and it was blissful heaven):

Strawberries & Cream French Toast

Nature's Own Double Fiber Wheat Bread, 2 slices
2 eggs + 2 egg whites
1.5 c. sliced strawberries
1/2 c. fat free ricotta cheese

482 calories; 40g net carbs (fell a bit short, but 55 total carbs); 46g protein; 11g fat.

I'm full . . . it was delicious . . . :D

OMG, this sounds amazing. Someone asked me the other day what I missed the most from being on Phase 1 and after thinking really hard about it, I've decided its yoghurt, cheese and blueberries. This breakfast is going in my planner for phase 3 which is about 5 weeks away. I'm at goal now but my coach and I think i can go a bit lower. Can't wait to join you all in the maintenance journey.

I can't wait until you join us, either, RosiePosie!

As far as the above recipe, I am going to take away 2 of the egg whites next time because I could not get the bread to soak it all up. It probably would have if I'd put it together the night before, though. I reworked the recipe on MFP, and, with 2 less egg whites, the nutritional value = 448 cals; 54 carb; 11 fat; 39 protein; and 15 fiber. This leaves me a little wiggle room for a bit of EAS Carb Control shake for my coffee creamer. ;)

Btw, I had quite a tummy ache for about 30 minutes after I finished eating. (Can't say I blame it, it hasn't had anything to really do in the mornings for 16 months!) After that, I felt great.

Slipfree 06-07-2014 02:44 PM

Funny that we both had ricotta today. Great minds think alike! ;)

I'm definitely looking forward to breakfast tomorrow. I'm going to have the same thing -- want to see if I get that stomach ache again . . . and it was just plain yummy.

SG- that is tomorrow's breakfast. You were my inspiration. I post it the night before to plan ahead. I am going to make the French toast with one egg and a little almond milk.

The first couple of days, I was getting some relief from the C and needed the bathroom soon after breakfast. Then C reared it's ugly head again, bringing bloating. Finally had to take something to help.

Weekends are great for recipes. During the week, I need quick breakfast prep. But not for long, only 7.5 days left of school! Yippee!

Well, that makes more sense -- and is a lot less freaky. :dizzy:

Let me know how it works with the almond milk. That sounds like a good idea.

Yummy breakfast- made the French toast with 1 egg and 1oz of almond milk, vanilla stevia and cinnamon. Topped with skim ricotta, cinnamon and strawberries. Definitely a weekend breakfast, since I am feeling really full.

I'm going to try the almond milk then. I can't say I am hating finally feeling full once in a while. That said, something different needs to happen tomorrow as I won't have as much time to cook.

I had the same breakfast as I did yesterday. No stomach ache this morning, yay!

Sylviesgirl,

Here are some possibilities from the old Life After Thread:

Egg Sandwich
Thomas - 100% Whole Wheat Bagel Thin, 1 Bagel
Natural Pepper Jack Cheese
Egg Beaters - All Natural Egg Whites
Jones Dairy Farm - Ham Slices 97% Fat Free

Yogurt Parfait
Fresh Rasberries
Chobani - Nonfat Plain Greek Yogurt
Made this for breakfast today, it felt like cheating!!!

2 Nutri Grain waffles
1/2 banana
1 Tbsp peanut (or other nut) butter
2 Tbsp Walden farms pancake syrup
1 Tbsp mini chocolate chips (I used Ghiardelli)

While the waffles are toasting, microwave the peanut butter for 20-30 seconds until melted. Stir in the pancake syrup until well mixed.

Top waffles with PB "syrup", sliced banana and chocolate chips!
Add 1 serving of dairy of your choice to make a complete P3 breakfast

Waffles:
323 calories
11g protein
13g fat
50g carbs (43g net carbs)

Waffles plus 3/4 cup fat free plain greek yogurt:
413 calories
28g protein
13g fat
57g carbs (50g net carbs)

I love Kind brand vanilla blueberry clusters with flax seeds. It's a gluten free low glycemic granola. My go to breakfast on work days is to mix it with a small container of Fage 0% plain yogurt, 1C sliced strawberries, and 1T peanut butter. So good!

1 cup nonfat greek yogurt
1 cup strawberries
1/4 cup Bear Naked Fit Granola

2 slices canadian bacon

One toast with light butter, one egg, 2 small pieces of canadian bacon and about 5 yummy strawberries. I know I probably should have had 2 pieces of toast but could not eat anymore, that was around 9 and hungry now after doing chores so opted for a light laughing cow cheese.

I love the unsweetened alpen muesli plus nonfat greek yogurt and either a cup of berries OR 2 chopped up apricots plus have a piece of toast and almond butter.

These are from a bunch of different posts. Good luck! Finding a trend for me, the more bread involved in breakfast-the hungrier I am later in the day.

Slipfree 06-09-2014 08:22 PM

My breakfast Day 10
1 piece of Ezekiel bread
1 tablespoon of almond butter
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup strawberries
1 cup 0% fat Greek yogurt
1/8 Bare Naked vanilla granola forgot the granola!

canadjineh 06-10-2014 02:40 AM

Make yourself a pizza on a flatbread or English muffin with lots of veggies, ham or shrimp, cheese and it's not even counted like on your cheat day because it's breakfast!!

I love savoury stuff for breakfast. Open face toasted tuna sandwich is calling my name for tomorrow's breakfast, with Hot Lime Pickle in it and an apple for after.

 Liana

Slipfree 06-10-2014 08:30 PM

Hi Liana,

I read your maintainer food post every day, thank you for doing it. I do not prefer savory during the week. I get up and on the road too early to enjoy savory and like something sweet that early. I will save your idea for an upcoming weekend. I love pizza!

Slipfree 06-10-2014 08:32 PM

Slipfree 06-10-2014 11:49 PM

How are you doing Sylviesgirl?

SylviesGirl 06-11-2014 10:02 AM

Oh, I'm doing okay, I guess. Sorry to be MIA for a couple of days. My son is on summer vacay now and that is NO vacay for me! I have been running around like a chicken w/o a head with him all this week! :dizzy:

Like you, I prefer a sweet breakfast. I guess it is all those shakes for breakfast all this time. I wake up practically giggly about my strawberries & cream french toast each morning now. I will get around to a savory breakfast some time, though, as one of my future goals is to cut down on my Splenda intake. Thanks, Liana.

That said, today was my first P3 weigh in and I am up 2. I'm trying to keep perspective and all of that, but I would not be honest if I said I was just going right along. I am worried that these breakfasts are already too much for me and that I will be stuck in a phase 2 1/2 existence if I want to maintain. I know it is too early to know that. I know this could be water retention or glycogen stores or just one of those weeks . . . but this was a really bad week for this to happen. I have been feeling "guilty" about the breakfasts as it is, like I'm overeating. And, my husband and son will be out of town all next week. I am afraid about being home alone all week . . . that used to be a big eating event for me. I could have really used a good weigh in to bounce off of next week. :(

Sorry you asked, Slipfree? Sorry to be a downer. I am working on it . . . I'll be better soon.

P.S. I was reading the P4 thread you bumped up. Thanks!

canadjineh 06-11-2014 12:01 PM

SylviesGirl: Just take a deep breath... really, Maintenance is not so bad, lol. If you just think that almost anything goes for breakfast, and watch more carefully for the other meals - you will do fine. Both Ruth Ann & I have actually lost weight/inches in P3 & maintenance so there isn't anything to worry about. Even if you do gain a little weight (as most expect to) it is just your muscles getting back their glycogen - you will still be slim & perhaps even lose inches during that time. I actually lost .5 of an inch on my hips after my vacation this past week (this is 3 months into maintenance, now).

You are doing wonderfully, enjoy your well-earned French toast!

I like to take my time in the morning so I like savoury, but I am up with my husband at 6:30 am and don't have to get started til much later for myself. I've never been a great morning person anyhow, Slipfree, :dz: although I am better at it now than when I was younger. :D

Thanks Liana. I guess I'm just having a phase-3-freak-out a few days late. I thought I had completely given over to IP and trusted the plan, but, alas, this weigh in churned up some latent disbelief on my part. I will relax and trust the plan. Actually, it's not trusting the plan that I find difficult; it's trusting my body. It's trusting that my body will behave in the way it is "supposed" to. After having Cushings for several years, it never seems out of the question to me that my body will do something seemingly inexplicable when it comes to weight loss. It's all a process and today I see I have more work to do in this area. Thanks again.

drd1961 06-11-2014 01:54 PM

In maintenance I actually do not eat as much as P3 breakfast because I simply do not need it. I rarely have the grain unless I really worked out hard and feel I need it. Greek yogurt, some berries and some protein quite easily hold me until lunch.

True 'nuff, drd, sometimes I am not up to fussing if I've had a tough night sleepwise and then I end up just having a protein smoothie for breakfast with something a little more substantial for mid AM snack. It all works out in the end, though.

Sylviesgirl, I was up a few pounds the first week, but I am right back where I started the 2nd week. I freaked out too! Feel free to be honest, that is why I asked.

I was worried about craving the breakfast food at other times, but that has not happened. Maybe try a different breakfast with less bread? I am loving the fruit and yogurt combo. Sticks with me and keeps me full.

Thanks, Slipfree. I feel better knowing that you were up some, too, the first week. I feel even better knowing that it corrected itself for you.

I really do need to tear myself away from that breakfast, if for no other reason than to try other things . . . but I am freaking loving it! Maybe once I run out of my fat free ricotta . . . since I have been putting in my son's oatmeal, too, I only have a day or two's worth left. Then I think I will give something else a whirl. Gosh, I'm being a baby about this . . . :o Thanks.
