Sylviesgirl, you make me laugh. This process is like a baby taking it's first steps.

Moving to Phase 4 on Sat.! IP graduation and long appointment to go over the next step.

Thanks Sylviesgirl :). I was relieved. Now, I am looking forward to beginning maintenance on Sat. I was feeling as though I had not finished my goal because of that pound.

Breakfast will be the usual tomorrow. Yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, Ezekiel bread, almond butter and 1/2 cup of non sweetened almond milk.

How did you do today?

Did I mention that I really like it that you are a week ahead of me? Sort of like making your friend jump off the diving board first. Wheeee! Then you can tell me how the water is . . . :swim:

Seriously, though, congrats. I know how important it is to feel "finished" and you deserve that. Well done!

I've done fine today. Still had my strawberries & cream FT. I just love that -- I put it on a pretty plate and feel like a queen. LOL Stayed OP. Weighed this morning and was down 1 lb. from yesterday. Hope that holds, but we'll see. I'm not weighing tomorrow, just moving forward and not going to worry (overly) about it.

We are on quite the excellent adventure!

Slipfree 06-12-2014 07:22 PM

Glad that I can help :) I am a teacher, I have 3.5 days left of school and then I am going away on vacation for the last week in June. I know and have discussed with my coach that there will be wine! I am not going to go crazy but it will not be perfect maintenance protocol. I intend to have fun and eat like a thin person.

Slipfree 06-13-2014 11:04 PM

Congrats on making maintenance, Slipfree! How did your big meeting go? Or is it today?

Does the "500" above indicate your caloric target for breakfast today?

Here's what I had today:

1 Thomas Light Hearty English Muffin
2 tsp butter
1 carton Chobani plain 0% Greek yogurt
1/3 c. raspberries
2/3 c. strawberries
1/2 Johnsonville Cajun chicken sausage
4 oz. EAS Carb Control chocolate fudge shake (as coffee creamer)

= 433 cals, 50 carbs (36 net), 15 fat, 36 protein.

Nice, but liked my "queen's breakfast" better. ;):queen:;)

Slipfree 06-14-2014 11:52 AM

Hi Sylviesgirl,

Today was my meeting. I am officially a graduate and on maintenance. Changed my breakfast today because I wanted to get weighed before eating.

Had: 3/4 cup blueberries
1/4 cup bare naked granola
1 0% Greek yogurt.

The meeting went great. My clinic is very positive and all the support staff are very supportive. They were genuinely happy for me. Best thing! All of my categories are in the green!

SylviesGirl 06-15-2014 07:32 PM

How was your first day on maintenance, Slipfree?

I haven't really been planning any big changes for right out of the gate . . . but tonight, as my husband and son were chomping on their corn-on-the-cobs, I did smile to realize that I could be having one exactly a week from today. :D

As for the blessed P3 breakfast, I'll be trying the lemon-ricotta pancakes tomorrow. Got some cherries in our CSA box, so they will be the topping. Yum.

Slipfree 06-15-2014 07:45 PM

Well, had a few wines yesterday in celebration, so today was actually a phase 1 day. Looking forward to my yogurt/fruit breakfast tomorrow.

Fresh corn sounds good. Enjoy your pancakes and cherries, yum!

Field day tomorrow! Pretty busy and active day. Should be a fun, but long day.

Good for you, SF! I'm glad you celebrated. Good luck on the field trip tomorrow. :twirly:

SylviesGirl 06-16-2014 10:00 AM

Had the lemon-ricotta pancakes for breakfast today. LizRR, you rock!

I did make a few changes since I was working with slightly different products:

1 egg
1/2 c. fat free ricotta, separated
1/3 c. Silk almond milk unsweetened vanilla
4 pkt Splenda
juice of 1 lemon + zest of 1 lemon
1/3 c. Hodgson Mill whole wheat buttermilk pancake mix
1 tsp butter
1/2 c. sweet cherries, pitted and chopped after measuring.

Mix together egg, 1/3 c. of the ricotta (and reserve the remainder for a topping), milk, splenda, and lemon until mostly smooth. Stir in the pancake mix until fully incorporated, but still lumpy. Heat pan or non-stick griddle to 350*. Ladle 8 (yes, 8!) pancakes onto griddle and flip when ready. Serve with 1 tsp butter, the remaining ricotta, and chopped cherries. Yum.

* I accidentally omitted 1 egg white, so I took it out of the recipe above. That would have brought the protein up to a better level. It was still good as is. I used somw EAS shake for coffee creamer, so still got in enough protein.

Sounds delish. Few more days and then I can have a relaxing breakfast.

First day of maintenance went okay. Feeling really bloated. Only had carbs for breakfast. IP bar for lunch since we were at Field day. Had my fat rich meal for dinner, so wanted that avocado! Avocado chicken arugula salad.

That's so funny. I just came across a shrimp & avocado salad recipe today and it looked so good to me.

I wonder what the bloating is from . . . though that seems to be a common occurrence early in maintenance. I'm sure you'll be back to normal soon.

canadjineh 06-16-2014 11:59 PM

My maintenance dinner salad had avocado, Grana Padano Parmesan, macadamia nuts, and Bleu Cheese Dressing. (The fat meal, lol)
Avocado must be on sale these days for everyone...:D
Time to start posting your menus on Maintenance What are You Eating thread, Slipfree ;). Give us some more ideas...

After a a bad WI yesterday w only losing. .7 of a pound I am not going to have any restricted items the rest of the week. That is the only thing I can think of that I added in that won't allow me to lose anything. New day new start. Have a great day ladies!

Hi Heather --

I can't tell how long you have been on the plan, etc., but any loss is a good loss. Some weeks will be big, some will be small . . . and some may even be a gain. It isn't anything you are doing (assuming you are following the plan); it is just our bodies fighting it from time to time. Keep at it, and you are almost always rewarded with a good loss in the next week or two.

Think carefully about taking away your restricted item, especially if you are early on in the plan and have a good amount to lose. Some people feel as if they lose better with they include a restricted. Other people need that slight indulgence to keep to the plan long term. The plan is written to accommodate 1 restricted per day. Trust the plan and don't make it so stringent that you can't follow it for the long term.

That said, this is the thread to talk about phases 2 - 4. You will get better feedback and community if you post this on the daily chat thread.

Keep with it, and good luck!

HeatherFeather54 06-17-2014 11:19 AM

My bad thought this was daily chat.

Slipfree 06-17-2014 03:33 PM

Liana, I will post my menus when I get back from vacation. We leave this Fri.

Slipfree 06-19-2014 09:51 AM

So, it has been 6 days since the switch to maintenance. Of course, TOM and high humidity have come to taunt me on the scale. I am retaining tons of water, but that is pretty normal for me during this time of the month. Just have to have faith that the maintenance protocol works.

Heading for vacation tomorrow. Planning on a more relaxed approach, but not crazy. Expecting to do a week of Phase 1 when I get back. Full intention of staying within my 5 pound leeway.

Sylviesgirl, how is Phase 3 going? Ready for the transition to maintenance?

Sounds like the heat and TOM are colluding to make you work your "mind over matter" muscle, SF. You are right -- it is just water. Now I would put it out of your mind and do what you know how to do. All your IP tools are at your disposal should you need them upon your return. Somehow, I think you will come back in good shape, though.

P3 is going great. I did come down with a bad stomach ache yesterday and lots of bloating -- might have been the new multi-vitamin I started yesterday, but I also blamed the pumpkin pie breakfast and put the second helping in the freezer for a while -- that'll teach it. Took the same vitamin today, so I guess I will see if it was the culprit or not. I want to take new foods very slowly. I had lots of stomach and digestive issues going into IP. They all went away, so I know I can feel good if I eat the right way. I'll add back one thing at a time and see what flies. I'm not going back to those issues ever again, if I can help it.

I can technically start maintenance Saturday, but I will wait a couple of extra days. My husband and son are out of town, so I would rather stay on the straight and narrow until I am busier and back in routine. I have held onto that extra 1.5 lbs since hitting goal, which I am not loving. As TOM started yesterday for me, same day as my WI, I still can't tell if it is "real" or not. Either way, I'm still within range.

Have a great time -- and, by the time you get back, I'll see you on the blessed maintenance thread!

Slipfree 06-19-2014 10:31 AM

Sylviesgirl, good plan with testing foods to see how your body reacts. Good healthy foods that fuel our bodies and allow us to feel good.

You are right, TOM always messes with me, lol. I am a retainer of water! Will just have to up my water intake. I am a little nervous about the vacation, but IP has provided us with the tools to get the job done. My coach said vacation is once a year. Enjoy, but do not go crazy.

Smart move to wait your transition until you feel the comfort of your normal structure. I still feel like a baby taking my first steps. I am comforted by the fact that I have had no cravings to overindulge in food.

I feel the same way, SF, like a baby learning to walk. My husband cannot understand why I don't feel more confident. I guess it is hard to understand unless you are in it. IP has taught us many things, but trusting ourselves doesn't come in, in total, until maintenance, when all the choices are up to us. No more automatic pilot . . . unless and until you build that pilot yourself (by rebuilding such a routine after figuring out what works).

I have learned that the atmospherics are important to my success. Eating out of boredom and/or loneliness were a problem for me in the past, so I need to be extra watchful about that. This week home alone has been both fun and challenging -- I made myself go out to the grocery store last night (had to change out of my pajamas!) for ice. Yes, ice. I was feeling such a strong urge to snack at night -- and not out of hunger or craving, just . . . cuz. I finally compromised with myself and got a bag of ice to make a Mio slush. That did the trick and was OP. I was rather proud of myself as I walked out of the grocery store with my bag of ice and nothing else. Prior to IP, you can bet I would have been walking out of there with practically everything BUT ice. LOL

Have a great, great time on vacation -- you well deserve it!

Slipfree 06-19-2014 11:25 AM

I think this forum has helped a lot with loneliness. The people on here understand the issues of using food for something other than fuel. Emotional food issues are so much more than a weak will power.

Right now, I feel blessed to have a peaceful life. In some ways, I am grateful for food helping me through some pretty tough times. It was the best I could do at the time. Now, I know better and can use my emotional and IP tools to do better. When I read the threads I see the power that food can have over people. It becomes very clear that doing the emotional work is just as important as losing the weight.

RosiePosie101 07-12-2014 07:53 AM

Just wanted to say Slipfree, thanks for starting and contributing to this thread. I start Phase 3 on Tuesday. I'm about to head to the supermarket to stock up so I'm all ready. I am aiming to post my breakfasts on here and would love some company from anyone else starting or in phase 3 over the next few weeks?

I have to know- how do you make a mio slush? That sounds yummy!!! Great job btw!!!!

Slipfree 07-12-2014 11:45 AM

Hey Rosie,

Phase 3 is a unique Phase that few seem to want to chat about. Maybe it is out of solidarity to people in Phase 1. The original Life After Phase 1 is filled with great information.

My best advice is to have faith in the process. The scale may freak you out at first, but in the end I lost weight in Phase 3. For my body, I definitely found my self hungrier later in the day after the French toast and waffles. Now, in maintenance, they are special occasion foods. I love the Greek yogurt, Ezekiel
Bread and fresh berries. If you enjoy eggs, egg sandwiches are a good option. I ate a lot of eggs in Phase 1 and we have had a separation for now, lol. Oh! Not all nut butters are created equally, be sure to read the label for sugars.

Have fun!

SylviesGirl 07-13-2014 09:13 AM

Just ice cubes, water, and a generous squirt of Mio. I blend it up in my Magic Bullet, voila! It is icy and sweet and takes a long time to eat and usually satisfies the "I want to eat something" thing I get sometimes.

Thank you. Seltzer and mio is my go to when I want a treat!! I'm going to try that!

AmberLS 07-13-2014 02:04 PM

Just read this whole thread... I'm getting excited, nervous, scared.. I still have a ways to go before I start p2 and p3, about 30lbs, but I know I will be there before I know it!

Slipfree 07-13-2014 09:43 PM

Before you know it, Amber! Stay strong:)

RosiePosie101 07-15-2014 12:03 AM

Starting phase 3 tomorrow. After looking forward to it for so long, now I'm super nervous. I decided that in order to be prepared, I should measure my food out beforehand. Probably a bit OCD but now I feel a lot better about it. I think that I'm petrified of staring to eat yoghurt, berries etc and not being able to stop! I definitely plan to measure the muesli out for quite some time. Looking at how much a serving size is was a little bit of an 'oh goodness' moment. Pre-IP, I was eating at least four times that in the morning!! We live and learn.

Slipfree 07-15-2014 12:37 AM

Rosie, your fears are completely normal. Even in Maintenance, I measure nut butters, berries, and cereals. Being prepared and planning is half the battle.

Be prepared to feel a little bloated after eating. Most of all try to enjoy your meal. Remember that this is a really important phase and have faith that the IP protocol works. Congratulations!!!!

canadjineh 07-15-2014 01:01 AM

Measuring is important Rosie! You will do fine if you keep that up for quite a while - I think many of us who have been 'healthy food' eaters all our lives but still end up at a higher weight have problems with realizing what a real portion looks like. My DH never realized that he was eating 5 servings of granola for breakfast every morning :hun: and although he burned that off in the working season, in winter he gained 18 lbs of spare tire. It was his wake up call when I showed him what a real serving looked like in the bowl.

If you feel like there is too much food for breakfast choose options that are smaller in portion size while more nutrient dense so that you don't have as much bulk. That can help. See ya in maintenance!

Liana

RosiePosie101 07-15-2014 08:19 AM

Thanks Liana and Slipfree. Amazing advice as per usual. I will definitely be measuring my granola for quite some time! The amount of a serving was actually shocking to me.

My breakfast this morning was lovely. There was a lot of food but I made it through. Here is my breakfast for those who are coming up to Phase 3 shortly.

8oz Stoneyfield Non fat Greek yoghurt
1 cup blueberries
1/4 cup (30g) Udi's Gluten Free Au Natural Granola
3 links Applegate Savoury Turkey sausage

I am so full. Any others on Phase 3 or moving there shortly? Would love some company!!

RosiePosie101 07-16-2014 08:29 AM

Breakfast day 2 was Strawberry and Cream Stuffed Toast. Super delicious and very filling. Actually, I wasn't able to finish it. Me! Not able to finish food!

2 slices 7 sprouted grain bread
2 eggs and 4 egg whites
1 packet stevia in the raw
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3 oz fat free cream cheese
1 cup strawberries
