Just checking in... I'm home from my trip with my parents, tired & slightly insane!.. managed to stay in Phase 2, but didn't get anywhere near enough veggies... I'm glad to be home, just to have more control over what I'm eating... my mom was supportive, although she never did quite "get it" (the low-carb thing)... my dad tried to be, but couldn't figure out why I couldn't have grape juice & watermelon...

I missed you all A BUNCH!!!.. welcome, newbies....................

hugs

Kayoubi, I'm sorry you've had such a difficult few days. Your idea to stop eating IP packets and wait until you can speak with your consultant is a good one. It may turn out that something else is going on that just happened to occur this week. Or it may be that IP isn't for you right now.

Have you checked with your doctor(s) about how IP's unbalanced, low-carb approach will work for you and with your current medications? I ask because several years ago I had unbelievable nausea on an SSRI and tempered it with having higher fat foods. (which I mixed with carbs and continued after stopping the SSRI which led me here. :) )

Thanks for the hugs. The reason why I think it has something to do with the IP packets is because I would only gag and feel nauseous while eating or after eating them. It very well could have something to do with the SSRI reacting with either a lack of something or maybe the supplements, but I know I can not get off of it (I actually take a lower dose than what is considered the 'average' and it's just enough for me). At any rate, it's back to work tomorrow so I'm just going to sip my tea and try to take it easy. I'm guessing that maybe I'll just have to opt with a slower diet until I am a little healthier (I still have a cupboard full of slim-fast! :P)

Getting into ketosis on IP or other low carb plans is tough, but going off an SSRI was at least 10 times worse and 10 times longer for me. I was on the lowest dose and even opened the capsule and counted granules so that I tapered gradually. So ... Absolutely stay on the SSRI. I wasn't suggesting removing that -- I got no business messin' around with your prescriptions. ;)

If you got a welcome package with different individual packets, you may not have ingredient information. Have you looked at the IP ingredients list, posted in the Alternatives "sticky" thread? Clicking this link will open a download window for a PDF file. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/atta...ngredients.pdf

Carla, I actually gasped when I read this. You may not remember, but about 6-7 weeks ago you mentioned how important mini goals are. The truth is I don't really need or want anything (except to see my granddaughter somewhere other than SKYPE). But just before I got to this rather mundane conclusion I had a daydream about a hammam in Paris. I've never been there. But I mentioned once to my son that I'd love to go to one and he told me he wished I'd said something when he live in Paris because they have an incredible woman's bath there. So I checked out hammams in Berlin, where he lives now. Huge Turkish immigration so a logical place to look, right. Well, not exactly. More like palatial spas. Still I've renewed my resolve to lose this weight and get to Berlin and get to a hammam. Thank you so much for the mental kick. It was in just the right place. Cheers everyone.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Melissa Here's my advice. Just feel what you are feeling. You may be sad, you'll probably be proud of him, you will wonder where the years went. I cried all the way home --- but you do come out on the other side. He'll start to tell you about his new adventures-- how he's settling in. What he's up to and you'll know you are a good Mom and that he couldn't be so well adjusted if it wasn't for you. Think of the alternative-- a son who never wants to leave his Mom's side? (No Mom of the year awarded there.) So go ahead and be sad and grieve for your lost baby... you're his MOM. You get to indulge yourself and don't feel guilty about it!!:nono::nono:

KELSEY and TRICIA - Boy, I know what you two are going through. My Son decided to go to the boarding school his Dad went to for 8th and 9th grade. Talk about crying! He is home for 10th grade, and it is a bit of a relief, although he has a 15 year old attitude.

Kelsey - I kept posting to you and I think you were missing them. I was trying to tell you about a treatment at the Mandara Spa at the Dolphin.

Tricia - Caught your reply on the last thread. I know this is naughty, but put some Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum in you IP Pina Colada. [I'm bad]

What a busy week. I am so sorry to hear of all the loss, tragedies, and difficulties everyone has or is facing. We get so immune to life by all of the media that we sometimes forget that everyone around us has struggles too. Had a bit of a melt down yesterday, starting with the case of soda (for DH) at the grocery store, in the parking lot when the whole thing broke open, cans everywhere, spewing diet cola (at least it was diet) all over me, the car, other cars parked beside me! :tantrum: Went downhill from there. Culminating with my brother telling me that my SIL who was to have a mastectomy on 09/03 will not be able to have it due to a leaking heart valve that they are not sure they can repair due to several complications. I stayed on track all day however and even walked 3 miles on the treadmill. Realized it was TOM and when I read the posts, realized the problems of the day were not a reason to cheat, just deal w/ it and just move on. Evening went much better! Before however, it would have given me permission to eat all kinds of things and be so stuffed I would be miserable for hours. Not sure how it works but the cravings just aren't there. Not sure how I'll do at WI (due to TOM) but I know I have not cheated a drop this week, if it is not good, I just have to remind myself that everything I did this week WILL show up next week!

 Thinking of you Kelsey. It is such a bitterweet time. I think I went through grieving for almost a year when my daughter moved out (got married young, I was so unprepared). Best wishes to your family during your transition. Jen

Grocery shopping day

Happy Sunday!

I have been reading through the recipe threads for some new ideas, but it's not always clear if the recipes are phase 1 friendly. Can someone answer a couple of questions about whether items are allowed or not on phase 1?

shirtaki noodles (don't even know where to find these, but they are suggested in place of spaghetti)
black soy beans (my coach said no, but I don't always believe her)
green peppers - raw only or cooked okay too?

Thanks!
Danielle
