I will give that a whirl for sure. Sounds great.

Its great that you've had an improvement!! I would certainly say it is not your imagination. I wish I had done this a couple years ago for this reason alone.

Salesgod... If you are making your own spicy dressings...PLEASE post some. I am not a big fan of the WF ones either, I use them for convenience when out though. I would love to see some spicey ones!!! From anyone for that matter

mamaerin - I've used a splash of sesame oil in my marinade a few times. The nice thing about it is that it doesn't take much to give it that nutty delicious flavor...doesn't seem to have hurt me any

This recipe isn't necessarily spicy -- up to you, but it kind of fits in with the discussion of spice and marinades. When I was little (and skinny) my mother used to make something called fresh pickles -- Pennsylvania Dutch, I think. We had them with boiled new potatoes, fork smashed, slathered with butter and pickles, and a little vinegar on top. Forget that, OK?

If you like pickles (cheaply made) and/or avoid cucumbers because, like 75% of the population, they give you heart burn, then this recipe is for you. What gives you heart burn, for the most part, are the seeds and flesh around them (which you can remove) or better yet, use an English cucumber. AND vinegar, like lemon juice, neutralizes acid. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but it's true.

RECIPE

Chop up as much cucumber as you want.
Put it in a zip bag.
Pour in enough distilled vinegar to half cover the cucumbers.
Add salt, pepper and a really good jolt of dried dill. At least a tablespoon.
Add any other seasoning you'd like.
Marinate for a half hour or as long as there are still cucumbers in the bag.
Jiggle the bag when you think about it and refrigerate.

The marinade can be used over and over again if you replace some vinegar and dill.

I hope you enjoy this. I find it really refreshing.

I'll have to try this, it sounds yummy. I make something similar, but with a different flavor. I use vinegar, a little splenda, a little olive oil, italian seasoning blend, salt and pepper - then throw in the cucumbers, thinly sliced onions and a few tomatoes. It's really nice and easy to scoop out my serving of veggies when I pack my lunch in the morning.
