Day 1=success! I was actually impressed, drank a lot of water last night and wasn't hungry. This morning, woke up at 9 and instead of usually eating first thing, I started cleaning and kept busy. Put the little one down for a nap and had something to eat at 11 :) let's hope for another easy day tonight/tomorrow. My start weight as of this morning was 206.5lbs

Ok so I did the stupidest thing tonight. At 7PM, I stopped eating and when I got home, it was reeeeealy hot in the house and my fiance was eating a big freezy. Without thinking, I grabbed one from the freezer and after eating it, remembered about my fasting period. *slaps forehead* did anyone do that? Forget and ate something when they shouldn't have?

nonameslob 08-18-2015 12:02 PM

Sophie, it happens! I'm sure one slip up won't be the end of the world :) Hows it going otherwise? If it really becomes difficult, you can always set an alarm on your phone at your start and end times each day!

First SUCCESSFUL 500 (err...550) calorie fast in months yesterday. It was HARD. It is SO much harder being at home, even though I kept busy. I miss working! But my tummy is rejoicing today - didn't take long to get the IBS in check it seems. And nearly 4 pounds of bloat gone.

I also took the whole day off from exercise aside from a 1 mile bike ride to the library. I needed that rest.

So this morning I'm fueling up for a run with a smoothie. We'll see how things go. Last time I attempted a fast, I had issues of lightheadedness for the next week, so I'm taking it slowly. If all goes well, I would love to do another fast on Thursday.

Oh I knew I was in my fasting period at 7PM but it slipped my mind at 9PM. LOL old habits I guess. Today I woke up with my little one at 8AM and we napped together from 9-11:30 so I had something to eat when I woke up. Another easy morning for me :) I'm just worried about when I go back to work and have to wake up earlier. Might be a little tougher. But I won't worry about that for now. That's only next year.
I can imagine it being hard to do a 500 calorie day. It would take a lot of discipline for me to do that. Great job though!! :)

SophieCormier 08-18-2015 09:21 PM

I did it again!! Argh!! I bought an iced cappuccino at Tims. I told my fiance tonight to help me remember that I can't eat after 7PM because I seem to have memory loss at night or something lol. It's all because of this heat! I keep reaching for chilly iced drinks and freezies to keep cool. I can't wait till fall. This heat will be the death of me!

The slip-ups are most likely to happen to me when I am preparing the kids' food. There will be, like, a few macaroni noodles hanging onto the spoon, and I almost automatically eat them. Or there's a bit of cheese left behind in the shredder, and I peel it off and start to put it in my mouth.

I will say that IFing has really made me notice the little tastes, bites, and nibbles I normally take throughout the day.

berryblondeboys 08-19-2015 04:56 PM

Or allow yourself something cool, but have it be noncalorie or low calorie.

My work days are way easier for me to stay on plan than other days. The being at home in a different routine is harder. Hardest are conferences and classes/trainings. I have a three day training this weekend. Blah!

SophieCormier 08-20-2015 05:25 PM

I did good last night and this morning, finally!! My fiance asked me if I wanted a freezy and I'm like, noooo, It's pass 7, no more food for me, only water. I'll get there lol. My head is just stubborn sometimes.
Now that I'm doing intermittent fasting, I'd like to eat better too. I've been researching different diet plans. Any of you dieting while doing IF?

banananutmuffin 08-24-2015 12:44 PM

I "sort of" diet while I IF. I don't calorie count, exactly, but my weekly schedule pretty much goes like this:

Monday: 500 cal day
Tuesday: Conscious of food intake, probably around 1,500 cal
Wednesday: 500 cal day
Thursday: Same as Tuesday
Friday/Saturday/Sunday: Eat as I like

i LOVE fasting on Fridays till Saturdays. I do this all the time on regular basis. Yesterday was Monday and was my vacation day off and i was fasting as well. It went GREAT like always. This is my only second time fasting 2 times a week. Last time i did another fast was couple of weeks ago. I only do 1 time a week normally. But i have a very good experience with 2 times a week as well.
PS. I do full 24-30hr fast. no food. just water.

Today a friend who hasn't seen me in a few months asked, "Are you losing weight?" It was really great to hear because I feel like it's not noticeable at all, even though it's about 10 pounds total since I started dieting in June. It's coming of SOOOOOOO slow that I feel it's not really happening. So, anyway, nice to hear!

Of course, she said this just as I was shoving a breadstick into my mouth! lol But it's not a fast day, so I'm trying not to feel bad about it.

LyraElyse 08-30-2015 02:28 PM

I've just started intermittent fasting again as I seem to have piled on a little extra weight lately. I've done it before and had brilliant motivation, however a change in routine messed it up a bit.
I'm just curious, for anyone who has done the 5:2 and the 4:3 diet, do you see a difference when on the 4:3 diet, weight wise?

Hello everyone! :) I have been reading about IF for a while now, and decided to try a 24h-fast today. So I've eaten a breakfast and planning to eat next time on breakfast tomorrow. Plenty of water ahead! I'm getting hungry, but not too terrified, as hunger has never been that big a thing for me.

If this works, it might be a tool I want to keep with me in future - try it like 2 times a month to speed up my weightloss a little, and perhaps help me with maintaining too.

Wish me luck! I'll report here when I know if I managed. :D

Edit: OK, it's evening on my first fast day ever, and I have to say I can't help thinking about food! :D But the evenings are worst for me anyway. I don't feel all that bad, so it's interesting to really see how much my eating habits have to do with psychology. I'm telling myself: my body is resilient. My body has always been resilient. This is OK, I can delay eating for a bit more. Hahahaha still thinking about food though :D

--

Edit: just updating to say that I did OK! In the end it wasn't so hard. Sleeping could have been easier though, so next time I'll time the fast a bit differently. Will definitely do this again soon! Now, I'll fix myself a breakfast and some yummy coffee. Ahhh! I feel like I could easily continue though, haha. But not now.

berryblondeboys 09-02-2015 09:59 AM

Hello everyone! Just wanted to give an update!

I was a bit worried when my boss would be coming back from her sabbatical and more lunch time meetings would happen.

First, I have found having lunch for that day and skipping dinner works for me (though makes the next day harder as I'm going 30 hours between meals instead of 24).

Second, I have my head on straighter, not tempted, to just say, "Oh, well today I just won't do a fast day." I now know that just leads to bad choices and over eating because when I eat, I like to EAT and not nibble at food!

And another interesting thing I noted. My newly turned 19 year old practices intermittent fasting as his normal way of eating and he has been for over 5 years. I would just force him to eat something (when he didn't want to) because I thought he should. Now I don't force it. He eats when he's hungry. He basically has a window from 5 pm to 11 pm. He eats a meal, and then a big snack before going to bed. It's HIS natural rhythm.

nonameslob 09-15-2015 12:53 PM

Hey guys, not too much of an update other than I have been doing two fasts a week now for probably close to a month (after quite a break before/after my move!). I still occasionally struggle with lightheadedness, and I'm eating more like 600-800 calories on fast days, rather than 500, to accommodate my more active life. It is truly hard to know if the lightheadedness is from fasting, dehydration (it has been SO dry here! sooooooooooo dry), altitude, the fact that I have been sick, etc. I try put my fasts on days where I know I won't be doing *too* much activity to limit any issues.

Aside from the occasional struggles, I have actually been losing weight! Great news after the big long stall I had. It is actually kind of crazy because I have definitely been eating a lot more overall, but I guess that amount of exercise I've been doing counteracts that! We got home from a long bike ride this weekend and I stuffed my face full of carbs and man that felt so right. Stuffing my face when my body actually needed it!

Is this how serious athletes feel? Probably not haha. But I am enjoying being able to eat what I want generally speaking. I could probably lose weight without the fasting, but I much prefer life without IBS and heartburn. :)
