That's awesome that she was familiar with it! Maybe this would be a good opportunity to not each lunch together every day? On your fast days, you could spend your lunch going for a walk (or just not sitting with her).

Just a thought, but I am an introvert who likes my alone time haha!

How do people with PCOS and/or hypothyroidism do on this management?

Are there recommended websites I could read?

Thanks, guys!

berryblondeboys 07-08-2015 04:40 PM

I'm hypothyroid and I have no problems with IF at all.

spangled 07-08-2015 05:01 PM

Is it an encouraged management or not? I remember years ago being told (before I was hypothyroid) to never fast for long periods of time as it slows down the metabolic rate.

I have often been a faster... I don't eat for most of the day, and have one meal for dinner. Then, I was a thin/normal weight!

The more I read up on hypothyroidism they say calorie restriction (to the extreme - which I was guilt of) can cause your thyroid to slow down.

Definitely would like to do the IF again. (Actually, I've been unconsciously doing it for the past two days... then panicked, wondering if I should eat more often.)

Unfortunately, much of what we were told is wrong. My suggestion? Do what works for you -period.

Like they used to tell type 2 diabetics to never skip meals and to reguarly eat, blah, blah, blah. Eat whole grains, etc. What does that do? Keep your blood sugar levels at a fairly constant (high) state - great for if you rely on insulin. BUT... if you are diabetic and reduce your carbs all around, and fast and so on, you can be off insulin.

Basically, we are still learning and we still don't know most of anything.

Hi folks,

I'm getting back on the IF wagon. I also take synthyroid, and don't feel bad at all fasting.

I am starting with attempting to make it at least 16 hours....Looking forward to reading everyones successes and challenges...

Great points about type 2 diabetics. DH took his sugar from around 350 to usually the low 100s without medication, just by giving up white flour and white sugar.

He also water fasts if his sugar goes over 150, until it goes down below that number, which usually takes two or three hours - no big deal, but a VERY big deal to control diabetes without medication! :broc:

If he can do it - he used to be a big sweets addict - anyone (with medical supervision) can! ;)

Welcome to all the newcomers!

:welcome2: :welcome:

Thank goodness for IF. I am in the midst of a stressful move so I have not been doing 5:2, but I have made a point to stick to a (rather loose) eating window, only eating dinner on most days. Managing to maintain so far, so I am very happy with that!

Yep!

That's how I survived a conference (without gaining) and it's how I hope to deal with vacation this upcoming week! (Fingers crossed for me on that one!!!)

Nonameslob - hope the moves goes well or ends well and the stress goes down!

Thanks Berry! We actually move Sunday. I'm still tying up lots of things at my job on top of packing and cleaning.

Ate a sub, salad, cake, ice cream, and pizza yesterday, and am still maintaining. Wonderful. Thankfully the bf is also on board with the concept of IF so traveling will be easy.

Just wanted to thank you guys! I just reached my first mini-goal of shedding 10 pounds in only 2.5 weeks. (Yes, I realize it's likely water weight - but it's still encouraging!)

I have to say with IF I never feel hungry, don't stress anymore about counting calories or carbs, and it's been the first diet change in a year where I've actually seen steady reductions.

I'm hoping this continues :)

Yay!!!

Once your body gets used to it, it's easy. Let's hope it stays that way for all of us!

berryblondeboys 07-17-2015 12:25 PM

Oh, that's another thing... people can say, "Well, how will you deal with weight gain once you stop dieting or stop this diet?"

Answer is easy - I won't stop this way of eating - ever. (hopefully).

Hi Ladies!

Popping in to say "hi." I've IFed on and off for a while now. Unfortunately, for the last year it's been more "off" than "on," and the result has been an ever expanding waistline.

I'm starting a combo of 5:2 and ESE. Basically I eat at dinner, water/coffee fast until dinner the next day, and then only eat 500 calories at that meal. ( plan to do this twice a week. I've got one fast day under my belt and I felt thinner for a day after, but now I feel bloated again. It's possible that I may have overeaten the past few days. It's also possible that the incredibly large amount of bread I've eaten may have something to do with it, since I typically restrict carbs (especially wheat). It's just we've had a lot of playdates/guests, and I've been serving meals, and those meals are generally sandwiches/burgers because they're easy.

Anyhoo, breaking off until Monday, which is my next planned fast day. And then--hopefully--will keep my fasts to Mondays and Wednesdays.
