wow! quiet thread... well here i am..third fast day of the week and today combined a 500 cal day with fasting till 330 pm before eating and finishing at 8pm.. geeze...i feel hungry and empty now..i hope it gets easier
|
Hi Porthardygurl! I'm still around but have been doing 5:2 for so long that I don't post much here anymore.
Good luck on your first day! It DOES get easier. The first day is just super hard, but you can power through. When you get hungry, drink some water. You could also drink some chicken broth or hot tea. In the winter, warm drinks really power me through! Another thing I've learned is you may feel hungry, but after a half hour or so, that feeling will usually go away. |
Hi NNS... I survived last night...was starving by 10:40 pm but managed to grin and bear it. Once i got to sleep it was good.. Happy to be able to up my calories back to my normal cal counting range.
So how long did it take you to lose the weight through IF? |
Congratulations! That's really awesome you did so well on your first day :)
It hasn't been a quick fix for me, and it isn't usually for most people. In about 2.5 years I've lost 60 pounds. My losses are VERY slow now, but I know if I really wanted to I could be more diligent and speed up the losses a bit. |
I do a 16:8 fast every day, and I've gone through fits and starts. I don't weigh myself, but I do measure about once a month (sometimes more, but it rarely shows that frequently). I have lost many inches in my waist and although I have drastically changed my diet in addition to IF, I credit a lot of my quicker losses to the times that I am rigid with my timings. I have slacked off a bit recently, but I'm also running C25K now (week 5, woop woop!) so I think I'm just a bit hungrier generally.
I'm not sure if I'll do IF for the rest of my life, but I do struggle with eating a decent breakfast so it's nice to not have to think about what to eat every morning. |
Well today is supposed to be a normal non fast day BUT so far have only gotten down 450 cals down the hatch today..Its strange..im not hungry as much and not paying attention to food like a hawk. I even made chocolate covered jellies for a friend at her house and neither ate one nor licked a dish...Life feels better when im not constantly obsessing over food all day long..ad even when i eat i feel more full sooner..this is good..i like this new stage of life..
How was everyone else today? |
Hi everyone, may I join you?
I just started IF (3 days ago), currently doing an 18:6 from 12 noon to 6 pm. Three months ago I had a baby and gained a little too much (50lbs). I topped out at 194 and am currently at 167. I am exclusively breastfeeding and have a very established supply. I was losing weight steadily for about 2 months and have been stuck at 167 for about a month now. I'd like to get down to my pre-pregnancy weight in my 140s, and ultimately make my way down to my 130s. I've only tried dieting a couple of times in my life, and it definitely isn't for me. I hate constantly thinking about food. I love food and obsessing over what I eat all of the time makes food so utterly unenjoyable that I actually start to resent it. My plan is eat 18:6 from 12 noon to 6 pm Monday-Friday, and 16:8 with shifting time slots on Saturdays and Sundays. Looking forward to hanging out here for a while and getting to know everyone! |
Hi All...
I use to be into IF... 16:8 mostly... But now I'm feeling like I want to give 5:2 a shot... Not so much for weight loss at this point (I've lost over 60 lbs and have been keeping it off for about a year now...) but for just overall "calorie control" Anyone here have any experience with the Fast Diet Cookbook? I decided to go ahead an order it off of Amazon today... even though, I'm not one to cook much out of cookbooks... lol... Hopefully, it will at least give me few ideas for some lower calorie meals... |
Looking for a buddie and more info on intermittent fasting.
I am looking for weight loss buddies. I am 46 and 324lbs, Jan 15, 2014 I got on the scale and I was 355lbs so I decided to start consciously trying to lose weight, so I have been trying different diets, Atkins, Carbohydrates Addict, Juice Fasting and I did lose weight but I couldn't stick with it. I decided to just try eating healthier and have been fluctuating between 330lbs & 341lbs for the last year. Last Sunday I went to read something and my vision was so bad, I wasn't sure if it was high blood pressure or high blood sugar but I don't want to lose my eyes so I started googling eye health and came across intermittent fasting for eye health. There was a lot of good research on 16 hour fasting, 20 hour fasting & 24 hour fasting and how it helps the body by limiting digestion to a few hours of eating and giving your body the other16, 20 or 24 hours to focus on cell regeneration and cell repair which would help my eyes, boost immune system, decrease inflammation in the body (less aches & pains), increase HGH for energy and vitality, it also claims major weight loss as well. I decided to try it really for my eyes and the increased energy and health benefits and so far to my surprise I started Monday at 331lbs and yesterday I was 324lbs, I also feel great! Losing weight, feeling better most of the day (you do get a headache the last hour of your fast, but then your fine), having more energy and turning on age reversing immune boosting cell repairing hormones! This is the life for me, I think I found something I can stick too the best part is for 16 hours I don't think about what I can have or what I can't have and when my 8 hours is on I can eat whatever I want or what ever I have on hand, I hate having to make special meals for myself. I cannot believe that yesterday I had chefboyardee ravioli for lunch and coffee with sugar and cream, KFC chicken with mash and gravy for dinner, for a snack while watching TV I had hot cheese popcorn and plantain chips plus two chocolate Hershey kisses and got on the scale and still lost 3 more pounds that's incredible! Now I know that is not healthy eating, so I start my eating window 12:30pm to 8:30pm with a glass of milk, a multivitamin, an omega 3 oil tab, a vitamin b complex, a colace and an enteric coated 81mg aspirin, I also try to get in 2 tablespoons of Chia seed for fiber. During my 16 hours of fasting I drink hot water with Lemon, water or coffee with 1 tablespoon of half n half no sugar, I'm not usually hungry after dinner its a big plate though, and I think the fasting is helping with the cravings also I remind myself I can have that tomorrow. So far for me this way of eating fits perfectly into my lifestyle. Now its only been a couple of days and the scale on Tuesday day 1 said 330.2 so I only lost .8lbs, Wednesday day 2 the scale went back to 331, Thursday day 3 the scale dropped to 327.2, Friday day 4 the scale dropped to 324, Saturday day 5 the scale is 324.6 but I'm not worried because it seems to rise and then fall again, which I am fine with as long as it continues to go down again lower. Most of the time I feel great except the last hour or two before the 16 hours is up, I get tired and then a headache, but your suppose to add 8 minutes of exercise before the first meal to burn extra fat because you are already burning fat as fuel. So I started walking around the block twice its about 16 minutes on Wednesday, and the headache stops as soon as you start exercising and you get a nice burst of energy as well. I feel great most of the time, I feel like I have more energy, my eyesight has definitely improved and my knees seem to feel better too. All in all I am liking this lifestyle, I'm not calling this a diet, it doesn't feel like one and probably because I am staying away from that negative term. So that is my story so far, like I said I am looking for weight loss support buddies to talk to and keep each other on point.

I have a question for those who fast during certain windows (such as 18:6 or 16:8 etc.) Does everyone count calories and/or plan their meals? Or do you just eat intuitively?
Right now I am eating intuitively during my 6 hour eating window. I am in the midst of breastfeeding and am still pretty hungry in general, so I don't deny myself the food my body needs. But by skipping both breakfast and nighttime snacking, I am cutting a significant amount of calories from my diet (around 300-500 at least); mainly junk (cereal, chips, chocolate.) In my eating window, I eat a lot of the same things day after day. At 12 noon, I usually break my fast with 2 large organic eggs on whole wheat toast with real butter. Around 3pm I have a smoothie or some kind, usually milk, yogurt, frozen bananas, and whatever fruit or vegetable that is about to go bad, so it doesn't end up in the bin (haha - all my smoothies come out a very unappetizing brown color). And then around 5pm-ish I have dinner which is usually a combination of meat, cheese, grain and veg. I also don't stop myself from snacking in between those meals if I feel like it. So I/m definitely eating well, but I am not tracking calories. I suppose I will have to wait and see if the scale goes down before I resort to that? :) |
JayZeeJay Thank you so much:):):)
