I ended up doing really well yesterday (in my books anyways hehe!).
I didn't have my green tea. I think I'm going to do it without, I just can't bear to drink that stuff again. I ended up eating steamed green/yellow beans & carrots with my chicken breast. Was delicious! Ended up going to bed really early so I didn't go walking like I normally do when I don't go to the gym.

Weighed in this morning and down a pound! :D

You're doing great! I tried the 17 DD for a very short time a few years ago when I was first starting to diet. I liked it because it was very simple: You have a few "allowed" foods, so there's no internal negotiating about what you can and cannot have. Also, by the end of a week, the waist of my pants had loosened a bit, and that gave me the motivation to continue. I continued w/ basic calorie counting, though, because summer was coming, and with all the dining out I do, I needed something a bit looser. Fast forward to now, and I've been maintaining for 2 1/2 years. So, although I did not lose most of my weight with the 17 DD, it did help motivate me after years of being overweight (just as the author says it will). Also, I always have it in the back of my mind as a "go to" diet if I really need it. I've gained 5 lbs. recently, so I'm actually thinking about following Cycle 1 5 days a week and then allowing myself to eat more 2 days a week. I know that I won't lose as fast, but cutting down on the carbs during the week will no doubt curb some of my cravings.

Good luck to you!

So I kinda cheated a bit this weekend. I had some rice cakes at home and was craving something salty and that was what I ended up having (tomato basil). There's none left though so I don't have to worry about those again. But I ended up going up on the scale. Probably from the sodium.

I find that having a greek yogurt for night is very good for me. It curbs my cravings & satisfies me up until bedtime.

Keep at it: Persistence is more important than perfection!

SophieCormier 05-14-2014 08:47 AM

Thanks lin43 :) That's what's helping me stay on it. I allow these minor "cheats" and it doesn't feel like dieting to me. I find that I'm doing awesome from where I was.

I tried a new recipe yesterday. We had BBQ chicken and decided to try a cauliflower egg salad. It's a potato egg salad but instead of potatoes, we used cauliflower. It was DELICIOUS! And very filling!

Sophie, I tried the 17 day diet about 2 years ago and did very well the first 17 days. I also used the Power Cookie recipe, allowing myself one or two per day. (At the time I didn't have the book and didn't realize the cookie wasn't permitted until a later stage.) When I got to stage 2, I got bored due to no longer losing or being on an extra long plateau. I also think that the perceived lack of variety for me (a no-meat vegetarian) lead to my decision to return to what I know works for me: LA Weight Loss. I do think the contribution from a previous Chic, to use the 17day diet during the week and not on weekends, would be very workable. Keep on going, you're making progress, and that's really all that counts!

SophieCormier 05-16-2014 08:40 AM

Thanks Pegwiffee!
I've always wanted to join LA Weight Loss but couldn't afford it, unfortunately :/
I've also wanted to try the cookie! But where I was from, I couldn't find all the ingredients for it. But this time, I'll be able to! :D Can't wait!

We're having paid lunch at work... I might just cheat a bit.

Sophie, when you bake your cookies, really watch them and only let them bake until a golden brown on top. The first batch, baked at 17 Day recommendations were too brown and too, too done. I took these cookies to a women's group meeting (all of them, but me, complete chocoholics - self proclaimed!) and they loved them! Have fun and enjoy!

Sophie, I don't know if you plan to post again in this thread or not. But it seems a good spot for me. I'm on the 17DD also, but haven't found any other current threads re it.

I ended Cycle2 of the plan yesterday. Down a total of 18.5 lbs. So thrilled! Today I chose to make an Alternate Fasting Day (Dr.Moreno recommends we do this between cycles - this is in the newer Breakthrough edition of the book). So am drinking the smoothies today, which I am enjoying. I will begin Cycle3 tomorrow - need to "bone up" on the added foods more. I am looking forward to adding in more whole grain carbs though!

Sophie, good luck to you if you're still on the 17DD.

CMLloyd2010 05-31-2014 12:01 PM

Hey ya'll!
Beginning the 17 DD today and I am not a stranger to it - I was on here about a year ago and started the diet, but life got in the way, so I didn't post much.
The menu is pretty cut and dry. He says the only thing your really have to count is your probiotics and your fruit (which you are not supposed to have past 2pm anyway) other wise Protein and veggies galore! Pretty easy. Sticking to it is the challenge.
Here's my reason:

Punta Cana Dominican Republic The Majestic Elegance Resort & Spa
I will be arriving at this wonderful slice of paradise July 27th and will stay for 7 days.

We have been to Punta Cana before, and loved it. I have made many changes in my life since we went the last time and right now my life is all about finishing Respiratory Therapy School, so I haven't had much down time. This will be a much deserved break/vacation. I have 1 year left in School,
So my husband and I decided in January we would start Crossfit...both of us being overweight we needed the motivation. Crossfit does not like fat people, or people with bad knees.
I loved the routines...they kicked your butt! However, my orthopedic Dr. loved crossfit more than I did ($$$$), I found out after my MRI on my right knee and a cortisone shot due to constant swelling and pain that I have a knee cap tracking disorder/with a fissure on the backside of my patella so no squats, box jumps, or lunges until it's fixed(very painful when swollen and when it locks up). I can walk and run as long as there is no problems and short range leg work with limited weights. (which is a shame b/c my leg muscles and lifting ability is awesome, they called me a beast). Hubs had the same problem, but his knees are just shot....cartilage is all but gone and has had 3 cortisone shots for pain and inflammation.
So here I am in hopes to shred a little fat before we go. I see alot of people have had success, I will be one of those people! :)
