Hi :wave:CC, Becky & Carolr and Everyone reading this

Volumetrics is based on the concept of eating energy density foods. I got the new book The CarbLover's Diet and it reminded me so much of The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan book. So I got the book out and read it. Also sounds so much like the new Weight Watchers Points Plus program because you eat a lot of fruits and veggies although there are no restricted foods which is a big help in preventing cravings. But then I feel so full when I finish eating that I couldn't eat anything else.

This way of eating reminded me of how I used to eat when I first married Tony and moved to FL. I thought it was interesting when we would go out to eat at my favorite restaurant (was out of business last time we went to FL) that I didn't have a gain the next day, but rather usually had a loss and I was eating broasted chicken and potatoes. What I didn't realize was that I was eating according to volumetrics. I would start with a small bowl of whatever soup they had, followed by a salad. By the time the meal of chicken and potato came, I would eat 1 or 2 pieces of chicken and end up taking home the rest of the chicken and the potato to eat the next day.

I've never been able to enjoy the spring fruits and veggies on most of the diets I've been on especially Low Carb diets. I am thoroughly enjoying this way of eating. Before we left on our trip my weight had gone back up to 220.5 lbs and when I got home I had gained up to 227.5. This morning my weight was back down to 219.5 lbs. So needless to say, not only am I able to enjoy volumetrics, but it is working. I haven't been hungry. Only problem I've had is that I feel so full on such a small amount of food. I am going to have to really learn to practice the 4 IE rules with this way of eating. I start a meal with a veggie soup which will have to be cut way down, then a small salad, the main course and my dessert is usually fruit. I'm eating much, much less food and feeling way too full. Although volumetrics recommends counting calories, I'm not counting calories, carbs or points. I don't need to. I just need to tweak it with the IE rules of eat when hungry and stop when satisfied. Hopefully this will help me learn to know when I'm hungry and when I'm satisfied since I really hate feeling full.

Good for you Trish, I think it is so important to find a way of eating that you can not only lose weight on but one that you can enjoy, most of us have quit diets because they were not sustainable and it is hard when you are in the diet mentality and see all the other folks eating and enjoying food and you can't have any and soon your resentment gets the better of you and you give up on the diet and eventually move onto another diet, etc. So I am glad you found this plan, may God grant you all the success you deserve!

Hubby and I are working in one of our stores today with a salesman, I have our lunches packed and may not get to post again until this evening. Have a blessed day. tammy

Thanks CC. I was reading on the Whole Foods thread on 3fc last night and learned that my new way of eating is really what some call Whole Foods or Clean Eating. I still use some of the tricks to lower calories etc, but I don't want to count because I want to be free from the "diet mentality". I agree to everything you said. I think I do get resentful of not being able to eat what others are eating and when I go out to eat in a restaurant which isn't too often when we're not traveling, I know that I can enjoy whatever I have a taste for.

Hope everyone is having a great IE day.

I think I've said this before but a diabetic friend of ours said his doctor told him to just eat less of everything. I noticed he was eating dessert at a friends house and asked him about it. That's when he told us what the doctor said. He is very conscientious about watching his diet and has lost lots of weight and kept it off. I think he's in his eighties, too.

Thanks Carol, NewGirl24, and CatholicCajun. I am so excited about meeting this goal. I'm crossing my fingers bc I have fully been back on IE for 2 weeks and I feel like I am in a great place.

Shay Sorry I missed your post about you being so close to onderland. :carrot: I am so happy for you. I look forward to that day myself, but mine will take a while longer. I rejoice with you... You go girl.

Morning all! Getting ready for work, been doing good by getting up at 4:30 or 5am(depending which store we are working at for the day) and going walk around our street, it's not a long street, we are still at 3 laps, but not that long ago I could barely do one lap, so this is good. My eating is going well also, I need to be cfareful though, I got these hershey's chocolate candies and I started out with letting 2 melt slowly after a meal, well it went from 2 to 3 and then 3 to 4 and then 4 to 6, get my drift? So I have a choice to go back to 2 or none at all, think none at all for the moment will be better, today they are bringing me a glucose meter, I hope that when I go back to the doctor in 3 months I no longer need it or the metformin. Have a blessed day all. Tammy

Had a very good day yesterday as I ate less since I don't like that stuffed feeling. Trying to learn the feeling of satisfied. I ended up eating many little meals throughout the day, but I will do it to keep from feeling so full.

Tammy I understand about the chocolate candy pieces. I am going to have to make the same choice. Also I bought some cheetos and now that they are gone, I don't think I'll be buying them any more since I end up eating more than a portion. However, I'm not seeing this as a bad thing any more; I'm seeing this as learning process of learning what foods we need to make peace with. Peace may be... yes I can have this food on rare occasions but not regularly. It gives us the opportunity to choose how important that particular food is to us. Can we get more control and eat a healthy amount or do we need to take a break from it for now. Hope you get good news at your docs visit.

CC, great job on the walking! I love chocolate. But now I can eat a little and be ok with that. It helps to be nearly full from other things but there is something about chocolate that is so comforting.

Thanks Trish, hope my news is good too from the doc. I love Cheetos! I think I will stay away from the Chocolate until I can have more control around it, I may never have complete control 100% of the time, but for right now I think I just need to stay away.

Thanks Carol! I am not at the point yet where I can be ok with the chocolate, but I will try and not have it around for awhile until I can be ok around it, I started out good only one or two pieces after a meal, and then it went to more and more and more, so now I will lay off until I think I can be ok around it.

Morning Ladies!

Well the scale is the same this week as last week, so I am not complaining, hubby did not get to weigh in. We ate out last night. We each had a cup of seafood gumbo, a side salad(ate only half of it) and a stuffed soft shell crab(fried) on top of pasta with garlic/cream sauce with crab meat and shrimp in it-to die for! and grilled veggies. We only ate about 1/4 of it and will have the rest today and will split the leftovers into 2 meals that way it's not so much at one time and we get to enjoy it twice. On my way to pray in church before work, have a blessed day. Tammy

carolr3639 06-04-2011 03:34 PM

Wow, CC, what a wonderful dinner you had and you get to enjoy it twice! We live about and hour from really good eateries so it's almost more work to go out than to eat at home!! As I get older I'm really getting to be a homebody, especially with the price of gas!

Shay 06-04-2011 06:38 PM

Thanks, Trish!

I had fish tacos for the first time last night. Loved it. I ate one and brought the other one home. I love tilapa anyway so this was just a new way to eat it. I'm trying to eat new and different things when I go out with friends. In the past I wouldn't because it was off limits. I remember this in the IE book. I can so see myself becoming a foodie.

carolr3639 06-04-2011 08:01 PM

Shay, my SIL makes the best fish tacos......he's from Mexico!
