Unhappy tips for quitting soda??

So i've tried to stop drinking soda only about a hundred times! maybe not quit, but i've never really been too serious about it. Now i am, on my 3rd day without soda AT ALL, and i have the worst headache ever, i have all day and im pretty sure its from no caffeine, I'm hooked on Mt. Dew, or soon to be was hah....i was wondering if anyone had quit or is trying to and had any helpful tips.

I stopped drinking soda at the beginning of the year but in order to not have the caffaine headache I drank iced tea. I started out making it with 6 tea bags with caff. and then once a week traded one caff. for one decaf until I got to the point that I use only one tea bag with caf. I can't drink water all day long...gets to boring for me and I LOVE iced tea so this worked wonderfully for me.

I quit drinking Cokes about 7 months ago --- I was addicted to them and had usually 2 Route 44 Sonic Cokes a day! :/

You honestly have to just deal with the headache - it gets better! If you're already on day 3 of no soda then you're doing great and you're almost to the point of your body being accustomed to not having all that caffeine everyday. Just make sure you are drinking plenty of water and take Tylonel if the headaches get too bad. You can do it!

The caffeine headaches do go away, but it takes a few days, it also depends on how long / how much caffeine you were drinking every day. I know it seems hard at first, but if you keep at it, it gets easier. My mantra - it's really hard to say no the first time, but it does get easier each time. Also, would you rather eat or drink those calories? I'd rather have something really good to eat than waste the calories on something that won't fill me up.

As ccook said, if you've already gone a couple days without the caffeine, you should be close to getting over the withdrawal, so don't give up!

I quit drinking Diet Coke because I wanted to give up the artificial sweetener. Some days, I really miss the sweetness and the carbonation, and I found a great substitute is Club Soda (w/o sodium) and Juice (apricot nectar or grape juice are my favs). I do about 2 parts club soda to 1 part juice.

I wasn't a big soda drinker, but did have a 20 oz Mt. Dew every single day. They must have quite a bit of caffeine in them, because I got the same headache as well in the beginning!

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better today; hopefully by tomorrow the headache will be gone completely. Hang in there; it does get better!

I was hooked onto Caffeine free Diet Coke so I was addicted to the artificial sweeteners (gross!)

I now drink water and the newer Crystal Light Pure Fitness packets that are free of artificial coloring, no artificial sweeteners, etc. They use stevia and a tiny amount of real sugar.

Keep up the good work. I quit drinking diet sodas a couple of years ago and I feel so much better. Now all I drink is water and unsweetened tea.

It will. My city has a local tv news station and one of the newscasters said he lost a lot of weight just by quitting drinking sodas. It shows too.

I've weaned myself down slowly.
It really helped cutting sugar out of the rest of my diet. No sugar in my tea, no ice cream treats, no pudding or jell-o. I've always been sensitive to "fake" sugars (make me queasy and headachy), so getting off real sugar with no substitutes has been challenging.
I'm down to one classic Pepsi a day, which I count as a snack, and sometimes I don't even finish it. Plus I save it as my treat during my daily phone call with a cross country friend, so it keeps me from starting in on soda early in the day and drinking more than one can.
I'll have to get some of the Crystal Light packets, I've been wary of trying Stevia, but this may be the way to try it!

ok, here's a tip. 1st you must stop soda no matter what and yes you'll get headaches (unfortunatelly you can't really avoid that) the first few days but you gotta be patient, then the best replacement I could find is home made: super simple its sparkly water with orange juice, it tastes just like orangina/crush and I love it so much. Good luck with your new decision you're definitely making the right choice
