Just wondering...

  • I know that sugar isn't all that good for you especially refined sugars but if I plan to cut sugar out of my diet, does that mean that I should cut out fruit and things with natural sugar too? I also use an equivalent to splenda. Should that be cut out as well since it's supposedly made from sugar. I know that it will be hard to completely cut sugar out since there are so many things that have it in it.

I also heard that too much sugar can result in the hard to get rid of belly fat! Is that true?

    HELP!!! Thank you
  • You should still eat fruit, just limit yourself to one or two pieces a day (or less if you so choose) The same thing goes with the artificial sweetener, try to limit to no more than 3 packets a day.
  • Pick fruits that are lower in sugar- I'd stay away from pineapple and watermelon because that has a lot of sugar. I believe grapes do also.

I low carb so I stay away from a lot of fruits, but when I do have fruits it's mostly berries
  • I believe that all fruit is okay in moderation. You should never cut out a specific fruit because you could be losing out on a lot of good nutrients.
  • Google 'low glycemic fruits' and stay on that list. I know cantaloup and tangerines are low. The more you eat on that low (or medium) list, the better.

I've cut out white sugar and if I need sweetener, I use agave (I know stevia is popular but I hate the taste).

    good luck!
  • Here is the list I go by:

    Fruits low in sugar
    Lemon or Lime
    Rhubarb
    Raspberries
    Blackberries
    Cranberries

Fruits Low to Medium in Sugar
    Strawberries
    Casaba Melon
    Papaya
    Watermelon
    Peaches
    Nectarines
    Blueberries
    Cantaloupes
    Honeydew Melons
    Apples
    Guavas
    Apricots
    Grapefruit

Guess I was wrong about watermelon- I could have sworn it was high sugar.

Like I said before I don't eat a lot of fruit but the ones I do eat mostly are on these lists. All berries, some apples, cantelope, and so on. Though I do occassionally enjoy a tangerine.
  • I think using splenda is just fine. Or the generic version is fine too. It's my understanding that it is eliminated from our systems, not digested, therefore doesn't have any bad side effects. I know there are people who believe the contrary and there are those who do have allergic reactions, but if it's working for you, then continue as you have been.

All things in moderation. If eating fruit helps you withstand cupcakes then it's a good choice in my book. It sure helps me! If you are eating it to the exclusion of other healthy choices, then by all means cut back. Fruits offer fiber and vitamins and most of us need that. But we also need protein, veggies and whole grains so don't forget those too.

I check the calorie counts of the fruits I eat and factor that into my daily allotment. I also take into account the glycemic load of what I'm eating in general.
  • Good ideas!

Wow! I think I read in your post that in one month you lost 14lbs. How is that possible? I have been on WW going on 4 weeks and lost only a couple of lbs. I have been so depressed about it. I have a lot of meds and daily health problems but I am faithful to the WW program. What should I do? What plan are you using?
I think you are beautiful just the way you are, what a pretty face.
I also have played piano for my church since I was 12 and I am 76. Been a teacher of piano 55yrs.
Fat Fat Fat , what a problem, Lord help us daily!
