Good Morning, so far so good with the detox.
Breakfast: Egg whites and a piece of fruit
Later on I will make my smoothie with the fat free yogurt

I was also on the Fatsmashforum and I seen a recipe for Oatmeal cookies and sounded really good so I am going to stick to only 2 egg whites this morning so I could save one for the cookies. I am going to make them later. =)

Dinner: I will probably make a salad... is red wine vinegar ok?

mleajanko 02-17-2010 11:57 AM

Is anyone light headed or dizzy on this diet? I'm STILL waiting on my book - ARGH darn amazon and UPS, but I saw online that on the 4 day diet - the first four days you eat approx. 600 calories a day? I've done that on my own before and often felt like I was going to pass out. Please let me know what I can expect - Thanks everyone! Maybe today will be the day I get my book!

sluggo44 02-17-2010 12:00 PM

shae8230 are we the only ones posting over at the fatsmash forum with Mush? There is like no traffic going on over there and very little at the yahoo group one either. Oh well we have this one and I prefer this one anyways. I'm still working on my oatmeal cookies but when you run a switchbaord it makes it really hard to eat. I'm looking forward to lunch of brown rice and peas. Hope everyone is having a good day. Last night when I was exercising I noticed it was so easy I could easily go up on my weights and I contribute this better workout with not eating meat in several days. I know I've already said this but I just can't believe how much better I feel not eating meat. I'm really thinking about just adding fish when I'm done with detox. Do ya'll think that would be ok?

natamars 02-17-2010 12:13 PM

r3alsinc31992, I would think any kind of vinegar is OK, unless it has added sugar. Then again, he says you can eat lf salad dressing which DEFINTELY has sugar and/or corn syrup. I'm using Balsamic vingear with a little olive oil in my salads - he says you can use some oil to roast veggies and I don't, so I figure it balances out.

mleajanko, I am doing the original, not EFS. 600 sounds REALLY low. I've been averaging 1200/day on this. No dizziness.

sluggo44, I've also been considering not adding meat back. I was never a big meat-eater - haven't had beef or pork for years, just chicken and turkey. Got so sick of it on low-carb. But looking at phase 2, it feels like nothing I like is added back. I am missing nuts, dark chocolate, and wine. Actually I'm not sure he addresses nuts or nut butters at all, and I used to eat those daily.

Taurie 02-17-2010 12:27 PM

mleajanko - I'm just finishing day 3 (it's past 5pm where I'm at) and I never experienced dizziness or light headed-ness which I am prone to get with my low blood pressure, etc. I actually counted the calories the last few days and they are about 1,000. I didn't eat everything on the list. I haven't had any coffee. The first day I missed out on 2cups of salad, and today I'll be missing out on 1/2 cup of beans and possibly 2 cups of salad again. I have been nice and full on this diet. Last night I wasn't even hungry when I had dinner, but knew I hadn't eaten very much so I ate it. I can honestly say, thus far I am very satisfied on this diet.

Though, I must note that because I have an injured foot at the moment I haven't been as active as I normally am. Though, I'm going swimming in a minute and swimming makes me sooo hungry. So maybe I will be having that 1/2 cup of beans after all!

misskitty 02-17-2010 12:31 PM

hi again,

vinegar is ok, i believe. red wine vinegar is good mixed w/black beans, tomatoes cubed, peppers cubed, with some cilantro or cumin.

the oatmeal cookies are very good. just be careful not to use the whole tbsp of cinnamon the first time you make them. i got by with about half of that for a single batch.

taurie, are you on the 4 day diet? i'm finishing day 3 today, too. i'll get through module 5 and then i'm off to france for 12 days. i think at that point i'll be trying not to gain, not trying to lose! ah wine, cheese, and bread!

i'm usually hungry on the four day diet when i go to bed. i have to make sure i leave the first floor of the house after dinner so that i don't wander into the kitchen, which is what my kids and husband do, for their desserts. that's the hardest part.

i'm a vegetarian (the whole family is). the morningstar breakfast patties aren't the best, IMHO, but the bacon rocks! watch out though, they're still higher in fat, i think, depending on the product, than chicken and fish might be. you'd have to look up meat and then compare it with the nutritional information on the boxes. after detox you can add back meat, right?, for phase 2.

you know it takes about 3 days to digest and move meat through the colon? how's that for gross, rotting flesh in your body? :p ok, i'm exaggerating, a little. :o

good afternoon to you!

Taurie 02-17-2010 12:34 PM

Oh, I did want to mention that instead of salad dressing in my salad for lunch this afternoon I used salsa and added 1/2 a cup of beans... it had a Mexican twist. It was really nice and filling.

I have found it impossible to get a low fat dressing here in London. Some labels say low fat, but when you take a closer look they aren't much lower than the original.

mleajanko 02-17-2010 01:30 PM

Taurie - Thanks for the feedback - I am glad to know that the information I found was wrong regarding amount of calories on the 4 Day Diet, because as we all know not enough calories kills your metabolism and I do not want that! Thanks for the help, and once i get my book I will be better informed.

shae8230 02-17-2010 03:13 PM

Hey all,

Dh made a big crock pot of vegetable soup for supper. It really smells good but, I haven't been hungry at all today. I totally missed lunch. Breakfast was 1 cup of grits, 6 oz. of yogurt, and a banana.

sluggo44~ I guess you and are the only ones posting at the fat smash forum. I really like the info on it and the yahoo group. I hope the forum picks back up again. But, I'm sure it will take time to build back up.

mleajanko~ I hope your book comes soon.

misskitty~ Thanks for the pep talk. ;) Today is a much better day. :D

Hello to everyone else. I hope you are all having a SMASHING day!

as i am preparing to make the cookies, i find out that i have no sugar substitute:(
so i decide to just make it without the s.s. and then when it finishes and I taste it, tasted horrible. :barf:
so i just made them for nothing and i did not feel like making a smoothie, so i just have a non fat yogurt with grapes and bananas and I am eating that, later will be a salad with red wine vinegar

natamars 02-17-2010 03:41 PM

I don't make the "cookies", I make the muffins. I don't use sugar substitutes. I mash a banana and use some applesauce and that sweetens it enough. I use blueberries if I have them too. Give it a try!

misskitty 02-17-2010 03:57 PM

mleajanko, once you read the 4 day diet, you'll see that he starts adding in 'high fat' foods even on this first module. tomorrow, for example, we can have nuts, day 4 of the first module. he's planned out what to eat, more/less exercise on certain days, to keep the body in a constant state of flux, helping to avoid plateaus and mixing things up to keep weight loss going. so even if these first four days are on the low calorie side, it's just for detox and some days in the other six modules.

natamars, for the cookies/muffins, what's the ratio of banana to applesauce that you use? can you post the muffin recipe here?

r3alsinc31992, keep the cookies. you can break them up and mix them in with a flavored yogurt and have a chewy treat.

taurie, the salad idea sounds good, i'll try that tonight.

Taurie 02-17-2010 04:48 PM

r3alsinc31992 - I'll have to give those oatmeal cookies a try when the 4 Day diet permits. I can't wait!

MissKitty - That's funny that were on the same day. I actually just came back from Paris. My bf took me their for V-Day weekend; it was my first time in Paris. I put on a few pounds despite all the walking, but I think it was just water retention as it's gone now. Whereabouts in France are you going to?

misskitty 02-17-2010 06:09 PM

we have friends in Tours (west). i'll spend all my time there.

i'm eating your salad w/black beans, red onions and salsa. i can't say it's my favorite, but it's working! try the cabbage soup. i thought it would be gross, but it's quite good!

we get NUTS tomorrow!!!!

misskitty

natamars 02-17-2010 06:25 PM

2 1/4 cups oatmeal
2 tsps baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup skim milk
2 large egg whites
1/2 cup applesauce
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp cinnamon
8 servings 1 packet sweetener (splenda)
Directions1.Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
2.Spray muffin pan with non stick spray or line with cupcake liners.
3.Mix oatmeal, salt, baking powder, cinnamon.
4.Add remaining ingredients until it resembles slightly runny oatmeal.
5.Fill muffin cups 3/4 full.
6.Bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

I leave out the splenda, add a mashed banana or two, and some blueberries. I've been eating two of these a day - one crumbled over plain yogurt for breakfast and one with a glass of soy milk in the afternoon.

Day 4 of detox is almost over...
