Default Giving blood to lose weight?

Giving blood is altruistic of course but there is also a tangible benefit to giving blood. Blood is mostly water and you do temporarily lose a pound when you donate a pint. This water will be replaced when you rehydrate but you will also lose some calories when you donate.
It has been estimated that you it takes about 600 calories to replace the blood cells you lose when donating.
So girls and guys, donate soon! You'll get a free 600 calories off (that's 1-2 good workouts) as well help those in need.

For someone to donate blood to lose weight ,I would think weight loss had turned into an obsession.
However I dont see anything wrong with donation blood for the `right` reason.
But for `diet` reasons is a whole nother issue!

I think she used the weight loss aspect as an attention grabber since this is a diet forum, kind of tongue-in-cheek. I think her motives are sincere

Funny you should mention this. First time this happened, I didn't realize I could LOOSE a pound when I donated blood - BONUS! Now, I donate because I've got a rare blood type and I help others. Donating blood also is good for your body - it forces your body to regenerate new blood cells! It's as good for you as it is for those that you help. I would encourage those that can to start today. And thanks to those that already donate!!!

it also takes around 2 months to replace the red blood cells. 600 calories in 2 months is lik next to nothing, but I donate nonetheless.

The one and only time I got up the nerve to do it I couldn't. I had had surgery the month before and was told the meds could still be in my system. I haven't gone back and that was years ago. I will go and make an appointment though because I know I need to do it and I remember my mom used to always donate at work. I am just so afraid of the needles.

Try needle phobic. I'm constantly considering it, then not doing it. I went through months of therapy and know how to deal with it, and DID do it as part of my therapy. But went with a friend. Need to find someone to go donate with me I guess so that I don't chicken out.

I bet there's someone reading this that would be dumb or desperate enough to actually take this idea to heart and donate blood for losing weight alone.

I agree and it's a very scarry thought !! I've been giving blood for quite a few years now and have never noticed that I lose 1 lb the day after, I guess it's because I drink water all the time so I've rehydrated before I notice the loss...

Occasionally the blood mobile stops at our office. I gave blood for the first time this year and will probably do it again.

I'm not afraid of needles and stuff, but it can be a little nerve racking. Especially since they had a hard time finding a vein. They tried the right arm, then tried the left arm but that was even worse. So they returned to the right arm and after getting poked several times they finally got it.
