American Idol

Jon Peter Lewis did he do good or bad? I don't see it until Friday but I need to know ;)

Suzanne 3FC 02-25-2004 10:28 AM

I didn't see it either! I curse the day that I first watched American Idol, as I became an immediate addict  I had to go out last night and forgot to set the vcr. Last night they performed, and tonight we will learn who made it to the next round.

I had no idea they showed our version in the UK! Will you get the "bad audition" special next week? They are going to show the worst of the worst auditions. I have mixed feelings about that. It's difficult to see someone cut down so rudely when they really do try their best.

veggie 02-25-2004 11:50 AM

We don't get the extra shows. Just the normal two shown together on Fridays. :) Only watched by the obsessive Pop Idol fans like me.

Suzanne 3FC 02-26-2004 01:44 AM

Bad news, he didn't make it. He made the top 3, but not the top 2. I didn't see his performance, but they said it was "cartoonish", whatever that meant. It must not have been bad, though, for him to make the top 3!

veggie 02-26-2004 11:39 AM

Oh well, there's always the wildcard. Him and Scooter girl may get through. :)

veggie 03-05-2004 09:19 PM

Does no one watch it in America? ;)

dinamichele 03-06-2004 03:23 PM

I do, and I too curse the day I started. It is sooooo addictive and I love Simon!

scoob 03-06-2004 11:21 PM

Jon Peter Lewis got in as a wildcard I believe. I liked him because he is different and he has sort of a cool voice.

veggie 03-08-2004 08:49 PM

He is through to the wildcard stage yes. Just has to get through that bit now. ;) They did show the "bad audition" special the other day some of it was a bit much to watch!

lakelog 03-09-2004 07:37 PM

Just another huge Idol fan here. I'm so excited to see the wild card show cause I believe this should be the biggest show. The one where they pull out all the stops to get in the final 12. After tomorrow, I will be able to pick my "favorite". :)

veggie 03-28-2004 07:55 PM

John Peter Lewis still in it. :dancer:

emilyatau 03-31-2004 01:20 PM

I Looooooooove Jpl!

veggie 03-31-2004 01:28 PM

He's mine :cb:  I hope he dances this week (I don't see it till Friday)

emilyatau 04-01-2004 10:11 AM

hehehehe, you won't be disappointed

Suzanne 3FC 04-02-2004 06:25 AM

I missed Tuesday's show, but saw Wednesday's elimination. I was SHOCKED!! Nothing made sense. Veggie, don't worry, your sweetie is still safe :) But the person that was sent home was one of the best! In fact, everyone in the bottom 3 were probably in the top 4 overall.

But who am I to talk. I didn't vote.

cathyxxx 04-02-2004 02:25 PM

Hey gang! I'm an American Idol addict also. I set my vcr if I'm gonna miss it. ;)

Suzanne, you are so right about this week's show. I could not believe who they voted off. She was one of the best I thought. I didn't vote either tho. LOL

Cathy

veggie 04-02-2004 06:33 PM

There are a couple of women I have no idea still who they are :?: so I have been surprised by last two voted off as I knew them. :) John Stevens was rubbish  but I want him to stick around.

DonnaD 04-04-2004 11:48 AM

I think the wrong person got voted off. JPL hasn't done stupendous, but I think he's has more to offer and hopefully will be around long enough to show it,. John Stevens was bad this week, but he definitely has a voice. One of the girls, I don't remember her name, Maybe Jasmine. low voice, hasn't done well in weeks. The rest are really pretty good. Tough one this time.

Suzanne 3FC 04-05-2004 10:26 AM

my take:

Camile: Great voice, but she reminds me of a deer caught in the headlights. I think in a few years, she'd be perfect. Maybe she can enter again then, cause she's not going to make it this time around.

Fantasia: Very talented!! But, her attitude seems a bit off at times, and I think this could only hurt her in the long run. Plus, she sounds so much like Macy Gray that I think she would appear as a knock-off if she were to record.

John Stevens: nope. Good voice, but he'll never be more than a Sinatra impersonator.

Jennifer Hudson AND Jasmine: They seem too neutral. Great voices, but no real character of their own.

JPL: Lots of character, lol, but I'm not feeling the talent.

George: Contagious happiness! But I think his voice is too ordinary.

My top two:

Diana and La Toya. I think either one could easily be the next Idol. They are both extremely talented, and they both have stage presence.

4myloves 04-05-2004 06:34 PM

I'm an addict, too!! But, it keeps me at the gym longer--I have to keep walking 'til it goes off! I was disappointed when Amy got voted out--I thought she was great--much better than the low-voiced girl. I like the Hawaiian girl and La Toya myself!

Cheryl

emilyatau 04-07-2004 01:48 PM

I think if JPL got ONE word of encouragement from the judges he would improve - seriously. He's got a very unique sounding voice and loads of personality, but every week he looks like he's having less fun. I thought his rendition of Rocketman was beautiful last night, but it seemed like the music was too slow and drawn out - ****, Elton John himself couldn't have a stellar performance if his band was off!
Here's my take on the others -
John Stevens - someone PLEASE get him off the show!
George Huff - kinda ordinary - nothing about him excites me
La Toya - I think she's great, but not as wonderful as the judges say
Diana - amazed me the very first week I heard her, but has been declining in my book since.
Jennifer - there's nothing unique about her voice. I could find her in any church choir across the country
Jasmine - she's REALLY cute and can usually sing well
Camille - another one who needs a word of encouragement from the judges! I love the way she sounds!
Fantasia - She does own the stage when she's up there, but her attitude really grates on my nerves - its like she's already won the competition.

There, that's my *non-expert* opinion :)

lakelog 04-07-2004 02:48 PM

So who do you think will be gone tonight? My bottom 3 for tonight is John Stevens, Diana Degarmo & Jon Peter Lewis. I have been shocked most every week with the bottom 3 but these 3 were the bottom this week for me. It really varies each week. Camile is my favorite because her voice is so different and I would love to see her go far for a confidence boost. I think all of these will be signed whether they get idol or not this year. I do like Latoya and Jennifer though. :) Latoya has sang twice and made the hair stand up on my arms and that seldom happens. Even Jennifer did it last night but Circle of Life is my all time favorite Elton john song and she did great singing it.

Suzanne 3FC 04-07-2004 05:58 PM

LaToya was great, as always :) Jennifer is talented, but I'm not a fan of her tone of voice. I completely agree about Fantasia. She's too sassy, and I don't think she stops to think before reacting.

Most of last night's performances were like a bad high school musical.

My bottom three: John Stevens, JPL (sorry veggie!) and Camile. I love Camile's voice, but she's just not ready for this. I think John Stevens will be the one to go, and I think he'll find it a great relief. He appeared to be on the verge of tears last night, I felt bad for him.

Islander 04-07-2004 11:11 PM

He did dance and he was good at it! :) His hair was different also!

Patricia

4myloves 04-08-2004 05:01 PM

I think John Stevens is a cutie, but not an American Idol. Too smooth for today's pop scene.

I think people are voting "per show" and not based on overall performance. I don't know if that's the way it always is, because this is the first year I've watched it. I think it's bad that a person who's been in the bottom three consistantly has one good night and is now one of America's (I don't vote, so I really don't have room to gripe, but you know how it is :) ) favorites. I still like George and La Toya. But Jasmine is still my fave!

veggie 04-15-2004 09:12 PM

JPL hasn't been voted off tonight has he?????????????? :?:

BIGtimeLOSER 04-15-2004 09:21 PM

Sorry to say he has! What is wrong with people these days? :?:

veggie 04-15-2004 09:24 PM

:( Noooooooo I thought he'd be at least 2nd :(

Also John Stevens ( :?: ) has the world gone mad?

veggie 04-15-2004 09:43 PM

 :nono: Nooooooooooooo

BIGtimeLOSER 04-15-2004 10:07 PM

I am with ya 100%. But don't worry, we will see him around. You know we will as much as we are seeing William Hung...give me a break!!!!! :?:

Suzanne 3FC 04-16-2004 12:39 AM

I hope LaToya wins. She is so talented, and I think she has what it takes! Fantasia did put on an EXCELLENT performance, and if she were to record Summertime, I'd buy it! But I would have a hard time being a fan because I just don't care for her attitude/personality. LaToya seems so graceful, she reminds me of what "star quality" is supposed to be.

John Stevens... I'm still confused about him and why he's still in there.

Have you heard about the AI spoof show set to air this fall? Here is a quote from tvguide:

Do you love it? I think it sounds horrifying! How low can we stoop for entertainment.

veggie 04-16-2004 09:48 AM

I'm still annoyed. How could you do this to me AMERICA? :nono:

Sweetmel 04-16-2004 03:10 PM

Me too! I thought he was reallly good on wednesday but I guess all of John Stevens friends voted for him even though I think HE was really bad.

DonnaD 04-16-2004 06:49 PM

Ok, I know he's got a lot of fans out there, but I just can't say I'll miss JPL. He is a cute kid, and could probably find his way in the entertainment field(more theatre related) just an opinion Veggie. I know your a big fan.
But I just don't think he was due to go yet. The redhead, John Stevens? Why? JPL is definitely better than him. I even think he did better than Dianna this week. I think it's going to come down to Latoya & Fantasia. Fantasia has the one up because she seems flawless in staying in key. Latoya misses once in a while. But personally, with training, I think Latoya has it on Fantasia. She seems sweet & personable, but is that what the public wants. This is a tough one. The others are good but just fillers for the next few weeks. Just my opinion. It is fun to watch.

veggie 04-16-2004 09:26 PM

I've seen show now and the judges ( cept Simon ;) ) even liked him this week! Diana should have gonnnnnne. Quentin was good judge :bravo: they are normally so boring, we don't have guest judges in Pop Idol (UK version except ours was first  ) I am so looking forward to Barry Manilow week, he has good songs :dizzy: But JPL going was v bad  :nono: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING AMERICA? :p

Islander 04-17-2004 03:07 AM

:( I was rooting for him! Sorry he got voted off. Very disappointed. :df: Patricia

emilyatau 04-17-2004 01:34 PM

You know what the problem was? The stupid President Bush press briefing. There was absolutely ZERO reason for him to go on TV and tell us we had a bad week in Iraq - I'm pretty sure we all already knew it. I know I wasn't able to watch American Idol this week b/c it was on a different day. I bet that messed up the voting. It's a Bush conspiracy against JPL!!!!!!!!!!!

debbiejarrell 04-19-2004 10:40 AM

Wiilliam Hung is pretty bad. I heard his song on the radio the other day and could not belive they were playing it. After thinking about it I decided that I would rather hear his song than any of Brittnay Spears.

Jen 04-21-2004 04:06 PM

Hi there. Just dropping in on this discussion. I started watching AI during last season, about half way through and got very caught up in it. This year I am ready to quit now. All the interesting people have gotten kicked off already. Not to say that those who are left aren't good singers but no one is really catching my attention as at the same time as last year. No John Stevens is not that great of a singer, not yet anyway. In a few years if he keeps up with his singing I'll bet he could be another Harry Connick Jr. It is too difficult for him to sing songs in other genres although he didn't do too badly with Mandy this week. Sadly I think the final 3 are going to be Fantasia, George and then either Jennifer or LaToya. I don't think anyone could possibly say that Diana, Jasmine or John will make it past these 4. Not unless one of them just suddenly improves 1 million % next week.

lakelog 04-21-2004 09:14 PM

You know I totally expected jasmine, diana and red-head in the bottom 3 this week but none were. What is going on? How in the world was Jennifer let go?? What will it take to boot off John??? Jennifer was my third favorite and I"m still rooting for latoya.
