Default Vitamin D deficiency

Anyone here have this?

I know this is something the medical community's been paying a lot more attention to the past few years. I recently had blood work done, and my Dr. left me a message that I have this and should start taking a daily supplement. I've been dealing with fatigue issues since I was about 12 years old. Over the years, I've learned how to keep my energy levels as high as they can be. I wonder, though, if I've had a D deficiency all this time. I'm eager to find out if I'll feel better after using this supplement for a while.

I did some research and saw that this deficiency can also cause weight gain. So I'm also hoping better levels will help me drop the pounds I've put on recently.

Have any of you been diagnosed with this? I know it's fairly common in the States. Did you feel any better with supplements?

Vitamin D deficiencies are very common.

My suggestion is to take a dry D3 in a 1000 IU or 5000 IU dosage. I use the brand Bio-tech and have seen a steady increase in my vitamin D levels, although have not noticed any change in energy levels. You can overdose on Vitamin D, so unless you are being monitored by a physician, I wouldn't take more than 50,000 IU in a week. I believe the RDA recommends 600 IU a day, but that level is for adults who are not deficient.

This is timely. I had my annual poke and prod exam yesterday and my practitioner and I had quite a long talk about vitamin D and how it helps with bone health. Since I walk most days and get anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes of sun on my face and arms, my practitioner doesn't recommend that I take vitamin D until September or October. Then, she definitely wants me to take it until the Spring, particularly since I don't walk when there's snow or ice on the ground.

My doctor suggested I take a calcium + vitamin D3 supplement. This gives me 1000 IU vitamin D daily in addition to the 220 IU from my multivitamin. My husband's doctor recommended he take 2000 IU vitamin D daily. I think both of us have experienced an increase in energy but I can't specifically attribute it to the vitamin D as we've both been making efforts to eat healthier and lose weight.

Yeah, I was diagnosed with this a couple of years ago, as was my DH. We both did the supplements, and honestly, felt no different once our levels were up where they need to be. So, we both stopped.

And, we both had blood tests done recently, and this time around, our levels were both fine without any supplements. So, my take on this for me personally is "meh."

Rats, doesn't sound very promising!

My doc told me to take D3 2000. Guess I'll just go with it and see.

Same as newleaf and alaskanlaughter, I was discovered to be low and started taking a supplement (I have lower back pain and the doc said that upping my levels could help with aches and pains generally) but haven't noticed any difference at all I'm afraid. Perhaps surprisingly, but not any apparent placebo effect either, I feel completely the same!
