Too old for celebrity crushes?
I was just thinking about this....Since I was about 12 years old, I've been having these celebrity crushes. Completely normal for t(w)eens, right?
Only thing is, I'm almost 24 now and I still have them. And sometimes they still feel as intense as they did back then. We're talking watching every movie they're in/every TV episode they're in/listen to every song they have made and so on, spending hours online looking at pictures of them, and even feeling a little jealous (!) of their wife/girlfriend/date from time to time. This makes me feel really silly, and I feel like I'm too old (and also too married) to still have these crushes :dizzy: Am I the only one, or is it more normal than what I think? |
I don't think it's typical, but at the same time...if you're not hurting anyone, then I think it's fine. I wonder though if you like it because you're craving excitement and you know this is a safe way to get it? This is complete speculation. If this is bothering you (or your hubby) then you might want to just stop the way one would stop eating sugar. You might miss it and it might be hard to do, but it's worth it if it changes your life for the better.

Aw I had a nice long thing typed out, but mp I dont think there's any issue at all, I still have my crushes and I'm 29

I'm 25 and I proudly have a crush on David Tennant (particularly of him as The Doctor). I, too, am married. It's just something I keep to myself and just enjoy as a silly little crush :p

Girl, I am 23 years old and have been in love with Justin Timberlake since I was 8-10 years old and he was in N'Sync. He will always have a place in my heart. :)
|
I think it's ok to be a fan or/have a crush on/be attracted to celebrities, just so long as you aren't still buying teen bop magazine so that you can hang up posters and kiss them goodnight ;)
|
Thedollylala- OMG me toooo! They were my first concert ever!
|
LOL Crushes are just fun and I am 55 and still have a crush on Simon Lebon (Duran Duran) and Harrison Ford (oh Star Wars) What can I say?!

Theo-
Those guys are smokin' hot in that photo!! My latest crush is Bradley Cooper!! I had a dream about him and he is my crush! Before that it was Matt Damon and Tobey Maguire, they are both so handsome. Sigh, but they are all celebrities and taken. I can dream about them though and they can be my eye candy on magazines and TV... |
I'm 36, and my celeb crushes are Colin Firth, I loved him in those leather pants in What a Girl Wants; and Anthony Stewart Head (had a huge crush on him since the Taster's Choice commercials in the 80s, and then even more so on Buffy).

My boyfriend and I push the thing even farther LOL
We have a Top 5 ''Celebrities people you'd be allowed to have intercourse with if you ever meet them'' ;) Let's be clear, we both know this will never EVER happen! But we talk about it in a really open way, it really brought up fun conversation to know that the other finds attractive or not. It also leads to fun conversation, for example ; *watching a movie* - The actress is really pretty! I think I'd put her in my Top 5. - ... what, her!?? YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING MEEE (.. if it is an actress I don't like :P) OR *watching a movie* - The actress is really pretty! I think I'd put her in my Top 5. - Okay, who are you swapping her for? Natalie Portman? - No, come on, I can't do that to Natalie!!!!! Argh, this is hard! |
LOL, glad to see I'm not alone on this
Of course, the jealousy bit for me is more the cheerful "aww, she's lucky" kind, not the "I wanna take her down and destroy her! " kind...Now that would scare me :D Crushes right now are Adam Copeland (better known as retired WWE superstar Edge) and Ty Burrell from Modern Family. It's always older guys...always  |
At 27, I am still crushing on celebrities & musicians! I still remember my very first celeb crush on Chris O'Donnell, and he is still SO cute! Then I crushed on various Backstreet Boys for the next several years, lol.
My current crushes, which I didn't realize were so numerous, include: Ewan McGregor, Sam Worthington, Marcus Mumford (of Mumford & Sons), Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth, Nathan Fillion, Channing Tatum, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr, & Ian Somerhalder. :o Oh dear, just read some more other replies & y'all mentioned some I forgot! Like Bradley Cooper (have you HEARD him speak French?!), Chris Evans, Colin Firth & Matt Damon. I adore those guys. |
I just turned 36 and my longest crush is Johnny Depp! I also have a thing for Norman Reedus...sigh...

I'm in my late 30's and I'm still crushing. But the worst part is that now I'm crushing on young guys as well, it's a little pervy, but I can't help myself, Zac Effron is just too cute!

The second I realized it was a fact, I was very, very surprised actually... Because he is absolutely not my go-to type at all. Oh well  |
I'm 40 and still get celebrity crushes. I mean, I don't put their posters on my bedroom walls like I did when I was younger, but I still get the occasional crush. I think it can be healthy. :)

I have a masters degree in developmental psychology, and I can tell you that it is normal and even common, not only at 24, but even at 94. As long as it's not interfering with or hampering your enjoyment of your "real" life, you have nothing to worry about.
I am 47, and as I've getten older, I do find that my own fantasy crushes (not all are celebs, in fact some are fictional characters) have mostly gotten to be fewer and less intense over time, but there are exceptions (I still have a weakness for Tarzan and spaceship captain types). Personally, I was a little creeped out by my 67 year old Mom's Twilight fixation, but even very age-discrepant fantasies are perfectly normal, because inside our heads, we're "every age." We not only have our inner 12 year old still in our head, we often "experiment" with being ages we haven't yet reached. When it comes to fantasy life, there are those whose imaginations are more limited than others, so it's perfectly normal to fantasize wildly, and it's also perfectly normal to have virtually no fantasy life, and everything in between is normal too. What matters is whether and to what degree you're using your fantasy world to replace real life. With weight loss this can become an issue, because to a certain extent, our culture reinforces the idea that "fat" folk shouldn't do certain things in public, so we create an inner world where those things are acceptable. Finding love, having a creative sex life (especially with a fit and sexy partner), exercising (especially swimming), wearing revealing clothes (especially bright colors)... these were some of my own personal "taboos" growing up as a "fat girl." I have always loved swimming so much that I was willing to break the taboo (though the walk to the water often felt like a death march - once in the water I felt safe - as if the water weren't transparent), but I was in my mid-20's before I realized that I was letting my fantasy life replace real life. Ironically it was encountering the "fat acceptance" movement that taught me that I didn't have to wait until I was thin to start living life as I wanted. I didn't have to let fat stop me from trying to do things. Instead of deciding that I couldn't do something because I was fat, I would at least try it to find out whether it was my body preventing me from doing certain things - or my belief. I've gotten off topic more than a little bit, but the most important point is that you don't have to worry about your fantasy life if it's adding value to your real life. If it's preventing you from living in real life, or impacting negatively on your real life relationships, then you have a problem. If it's a "hobby" like any other, you have nothing to worry about. |

Ahhh, Ryan Gosling. :) But really, I'm 25 and have a ton of celebrity crushes. Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Leonardo Dicaprio, Richard Gere John Krasinki, George Clooney (fan me now), Chris Hemsworth. I've also kinda got a crush on Christoph Waltz. The list could be pretty long. What's more impressive is my list of crushes on book characters. Those characters I actually develop a little bit of jealousy over. Now that Leo is going to being playing my book crush Gatsby? I don't know. I'll probably explode when I watch it. |
On the other side of the fence (being male), my number one "free pass" is, and has always been, Marisa Tomei. My wife is cool with it, of course, as "it will never happen". But then a while back I was involved with creating a product that got popular in celebrity circles. And what do you know, there I am at an event where Marisa Tomei is as well. I looked at my wife and said: "Free Pass Time!"... she smiled and said: "Go for it, honey."
Of course nothing happened. I didn't even say as much as "hello" to her. I'm fortunately sane enough to know that I have no business making any kind of move on a woman like her... not that I would anyway. |
That is awesome, Dane!!! That's a dream that will never come true for so many of us!
|
Omg on all of these. Filthy.
This site is just so unmoderated. I'm pushing the ! button. |
I had a crush on Mark-Paul Gosselaar when he was on Saved By the Bell. When I saw him on Happy Endings a few days ago I realized that I still have a crush on him. That man is yummy.

Jodi Foster since Taxi Driver and everything since. |
Lmao! This thread is amazing. I don't think you're ever too old for celebrity crushes, just as long as, like others have said, it doesn't interfere with your regular life and you don't hit 'belieber' status haha. I'm twenty and I highly doubt I'll ever grow out of it. I mean, have you seen Garrett Hedlund?

My Mum is 54, and when we came out of Iron Man 3 the other day she was gushing about how young RDJ looks and how good looking he is. (I'm 19 and we often share crushes when we watch TV!)
