Any Whovians?

Anybody a Doctor Who fan? I've only been one myself for about a year. I kept hearing about how great it is, & then I caught an episode one day on BBC America, then I had to watch all of them. I got my best friend watching it, too. :)

So, I wanted to pose some questions to fellow fans:

1.) How/when did you get into the show?
As I said, I saw one episode & had to see more about a year ago.

2.) Who do you love more: 9, 10, or 11?
I think 11 is my favorite, he was my first Doctor. Plus, he's silly & he can rock a bowtie. I might like 9 more than 10, 10 took me a while to warm up to.

3.) What's your favorite episode?
Right now, I'm gonna say "Human Nature," because it was interesting/sad to see what the Doctor's life could be like as a human.

4.)Who is your favorite companion?

Amy & Rory, though I'm a fan of Rose, too. Also, River Song is a serious bad @$$, & I love her.

Mozzy 04-11-2013 12:53 AM

I'm new to the doctor, less than a year. My husband got me started. I am madly in love with ten!
Rose is my favorite, followed by Martha.

I can't pick a fave episode, but the one with the "moisturize me" chick was funny and the silence creeps me out!

Oh and I love the library episode

Titaniana 04-11-2013 01:24 AM

1.) How/when did you get into the show?
I got into it in high school after channel surfing one night. My dad filled me in on the rest.

2.) Who do you love more: 9, 10, or 11?
I absolutely love 10's way of doing things, but I think 11 has a more full character.

3.) What's your favorite episode?
I don't really have one

4.)Who is your favorite companion?
Donna, for sure. She makes me laugh and she's really cool

That lady, if you can call her that, was pretty funny. Especially in the New New York episode with the cat-nuns, lol.

The Silence are seriously creepy, but I think the Weeping Angels freak me out way more. Definitely can't look at statues the same.

Keep Moving Forward 04-11-2013 09:27 AM

Titaniana, Donna is hilarious. I love how she yells at people :P

Psychic 04-11-2013 09:51 AM

I started watching Doctor Who at the beginning of March. I'm almost to season 4 now. I saw a couple episodes with the 11th doctor on tv and I fell in love with the show. I think the 9th doctor was my favorite.

I bought myself a weeping angel t-shirt and TARDIS knee-high socks last week.

MEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

1.) I saw a Christmas Special a couple years ago and was hooked from there.

2.) They are all my favorites.

3.) Um, all of them!

4.) I didn't like Rose at first but I eventually warmed up to her, Donna was loads of fun and the Pond's (all 3 of em ;) ) are my current fave's!!

When I have lost some more weight, I am going Dr. Who shopping on ThinkGeek. If you haven't been there, I HIGHLY recommend you check it out. It's pretty much a Whovian Swag paradise.

krampus 04-11-2013 11:02 AM

1.) How/when did you get into the show?
My dad watched the older shows regularly from the time I was a baby, but I sat down and watched the new episodes with him starting maybe 6-7 years ago.

2.) Who do you love more: 9, 10, or 11?
9 and 10. I...don't LOVE 11.

3.) What's your favorite episode?

It's a tough one for sure - "Doomsday" is not a FAVORITE but I have never, ever cried so hard watching anything, even the Anne Frank TV movie! Maybe "The End of the World" - or "Aliens of London" or "Bad Wolf" I also really like "Voyage of the Damned" with Kylie Minogue as guest star.

4.)Who is your favorite companion?
Rose Tyler, then Donna, then Amy and Rory, then Martha

TheSecondHalf 04-11-2013 11:21 AM

1. My husband is English so he grew up watching it. He watched starting with nine and I made fun of him CONSTANTLY. I tried watching an episode with River Song and had so many questions he stopped watching it and told me to either catch up or be quiet. I got the first season from the library and we've watched them from the beginning together.

2. Ten is my doctor.

3. Don't blink! The angels have the phone box!

4. Donna.

I have NEVER been a scifi or fantasy fan, I am not someone who collects Star Wars salt and pepper shakers or quotes Star Trek but I love Firefly, Doctor Who, and Harry Potter. Oh, and Game of Thrones. But that's it!

That's enough weight loss motivation for me! I love ThinkGeek, I buy bday/Christmas gifts for my friends from there. And I'm always annoyed by the too-small Doctor Who stuff!

Oh my, Firefly is one of my all-time favorites. I love tons of sci-fi/fantasy, HP especially! Rats, I may have to start a whole new thread about sci-fi/fantasy in general. I'm such a nerd :p

Skellig19 04-11-2013 05:59 PM

1.) How/when did you get into the show?
I caught an episode in the first season (of the reboot) when it originally aired but didn't have a clue what was going on. Then I went to Ireland for 2 weeks back in 2010 and caught the second half of the season 5 lizards underground episode. Still had no clue what was going on but I knew I had to see more!
2.) Who do you love more: 9, 10, or 11?
I love Nine but I adore Ten!

3.) What's your favorite episode?
It's a pretty tough choice and I tend not to include the "obvious" favourite episodes when I choose. I love the Season 3 finale episodes with the Toclafane and the Master. Absolutely EPIC.

4.)Who is your favorite companion?

Without a doubt, Donna; then Rose, Martha, and finally Amy. I can't stand Amy, to be honest. A little too... clingy.

Keep Moving Forward 04-12-2013 11:59 AM

Skelling, I just watched the Season 3 finale last night & I was like "Holy crap, this is AWESOME!" Seriously epic episodes.

If I'm not mistaken that's the first episode written by Steven Moffat who has now taken over the majority of the production of the series. I adore Moffat BUT I really do think he's better at doing the one-off episodes like The Empty Child and Blink rather than doing a whole series. I've found series 5 and on has been a bit too "epic" and not serial enough. I hate to complain but I've found it confusing and with too many plot twists lately.

That being said, I am loving the newest companion and I've only seen up the Bells of St. John. Clara's lovely!

Radiojane 04-12-2013 07:06 PM

OMG I love Dr. Who!

My man watched it, all the really old ones, and it did nothing for me. We've been watching the new ones now and I love it

1.) How/when did you get into the show?
My boyfriend watches them. I got hooked when we started the new series

2.) Who do you love more: 9, 10, or 11?

I was meh about 9. Loved David Tennant, was so upset when he left, I'm actually starting to like 11

3.) What's your favorite episode?

I cant think of the titles, but the first weeping Angel one scared the living **** out of me. I also really liked the one in 1930's NYC with the Darleks, and I like when Captain Jack crosses over

4.)Who is your favorite companion?
I liked Rose, but I really like Amy, she's funny as ****

Keep Moving Forward 04-12-2013 07:49 PM

^^^ Oh I love me some Capt. Jack!!!

I don't know why I'm just not crazy about David Tennant. Well, actually, it has something to do with the way he talks sometimes. Like when he says certain words. I dunno, I'm weird. There are moments when I really like him as the Doctor, and I am much more fond of him now than I used to be. I like him much better when he's speaking with his natural Scottish accent though. Maybe it's that I saw him in HP as Barty Crouch Jr. before I ever knew him as the Doctor....

I so agree. I think Steven Moffat is more interested in creating drama & love triangles & plot twists & confusing timey-wimey stuff than anything else. I realize drama makes for good tv, but at some point, it gets old. I think I get annoyed when a show that I love just doesn't make sense to me. It bothers me when the writers (especially Moffat) exploit the complexities of "time travel" for arbitrary drama that just doesn't really make sense. And maybe I'm too picky, it is just a tv show after all....

So did I! I watched the Christmas special and episodes 1 & 2 of season four tonight.

immaculate 04-12-2013 08:28 PM

1.) How/when did you get into the show?
I saw an episode with Rose and the Ninth Doctor and began watching religiously after that.

2.) Who do you love more: 9, 10, or 11?
The Tenth Doctor is my absolutely favorite! I adored him and really really miss him! It's funny because when David Tennant first took over for Christopher Eccleston, I was upset because he just wasn't the same. But by the second episode, I was hooked! I'm so excited he's going to be part of the 50th Anniversary Special!

3.) What's your favorite episode?
If we're including specials, I would have to say The End of Time is my favorite. It does a great job of wrapping up David Tennant's time as The Doctor and brings in all of his past companions and friends. I seriously cry every time I watch it. If I had to pick a regular episode, I would probably pick The Girl Who Waited. I love the focus on the relationship between Amy and Rory. It's gut-wrenching to watch the ending.

4.)Who is your favorite companion?
I think Rose is probably my favorite followed closely by Amy and Rory, then Donna, and Martha last.

I watched Voyage of the Damned last night & I've watched 1 & 2 of season 4 today. When the Doctor & Donna are in Pompeii, I noticed that Amy plays one of the priestess girls. I was like "Gosh, that redheaded priestess looks just like...it's Amy!" So sneaky.

@Immaculate, when I watched The Girl Who Waited, the ending just broke my heart. My favorite part is when Amy is describing how a person's appearance becomes more about how attractive their personality is as you get to know them & how Rory is the most beautiful man she's ever known. Rory might be my most favorite character of the whole series.

Yep, it is The Empty Child :)

I definitely agree with what you said about the new episodes now though. I think it would be much better if some of the stories were played out over a few episodes. At the minute it feels like there's 40 minutes of building an interesting story, then five minutes of rushed (often ridiculous) conclusion that leaves you feeling unsatisfied. :(

So I'm thinking of surprising my boyfriend with a bathroom redo. I'm going to paint the walls dark blue, I found towels on etsy that say "The doctor" & "companion", A sonic screwdriver toothbrush, and of course, a tardis shower curtain.

Too much? :D

Never! That's such a great idea!! Journey through time and space while sitting on the toilet? SURE!

I've only seen up to Cold War episode of this season. Anyone else totally adore it like I did? It was such a fun episode with 1 concrete misunderstood bad guy and I love how they tied it into the Waters of Mars. So cool!

ReNew Me 04-22-2013 05:38 PM

Ah, Jeez I feel so old. I discovered Dr. Who when I was in high school and my favorite Doctor will ALWAYS be #4, my favorite companion Leela and my favorite episode The Deadly Assassin.

However I did really like David Tennant, loved the episode Blink (the whole timey-wimey thing). I think Donna was one of the better companions, thought Martha was dull as dishwater and everyone else was just sort of eh except for River Song. IMO if the companion isn't really, really smart then they should at least have some useful talent (like marksmanship or general aggression).

Ah, I love it!!!

Keep Moving Forward 04-22-2013 11:23 PM

Skellig, I liked the whole "stuck in a submarine" thing in Cold War. Where was the Waters of Mars tie in? I must have totally spaced out & missed it, I need to pay more attention!

Fortunately, Clara is starting to grow on me. I just hope she stops being so flirty with the Doctor. River Song would totally kill her for that, but as the Doctor is 1,000 years old at this point (or so he said), I'm guessing she's already met her end in the library :(

Thedollylala 04-22-2013 11:26 PM

Aw Yay I don't know how I missed this!!!

1.) How/when did you get into the show?
It's been around a year, a client came in asking for 11s hair cut and I was like ok enough is enough I'm watching! I started with season 1 of the reboot, then watched season 6, then 5, then 2,3,4 haha. I river songed that mess! Unintentionally.

2.) Who do you love more: 9, 10, or 11?
Eleven is my doctor but I genuinely love them all, even classic who, I just love watching William hartnell as the first doctor and giggling that this man would be doctors 9,10,11

3.) What's your favorite episode?
Way Too many to make a choice up, but I can't watch several, several times over, school reunion, turn left, the eleventh hour, the doctors wife, a good man goes to war!

4.)Who is your favorite companion?

River song, well she's his wife and doesn't travel with him all the time but unf!!! I'm so glad she will be backfor the finale

I'm such an uber fan, even tho it's a new love for me it's right up there in my heart with Hanson and Harry potter. I'm anxious about this season and I'm conflicted on Clara and I can't wait for the revelation, but I believe she is just a normal girl and what the doctor has seen in the past is actual future Clara that hasn't happened to her yet, Thats my Moffat theory.

River will be back for the finale her name Is in the poster, (below) and I don't think his name will be revealed I think of the title as more of a "in the name of the lord" type of way... Kwim??

(I'm glad to see some love for Hanson, they are so amazing.) Clara has me completely stumped. I thought about our previous experiences with Clara actually being in the future, too, but that wouldn't explain enough for me. She seems to have separate lives that occur in different times but she is always the same, such as her desire to travel, being a computer genius & being a nanny of some kind.
I do think that the back story we saw of her parents & her childhood is her original life, & the others we've seen are somehow copies of that. I can't decide if she's just a normal girl because she always tells him to remember her, & that they'll meet again but she never knows who he is. Maybe it's like how Amy was a normal girl but the crack in her wall affected her life in non-normal ways. Ah, I don't know, I'm so confused! That crazy Moffat....

No problem I stalk the BBC america facebook and other various forums for info. I try not to read too many spoilers which is hard because I just have to know things. but the poster above was released by the BBC a few days ago :)

Psychic 04-23-2013 09:06 AM

Since I work in a professional setting, I was only able to put one set of tally marks on the back of my hand for impossible astronaut day.

Keep Moving Forward 04-23-2013 09:58 AM

@TheDollyLala - FB stalking is what I need to be doing too, I guess. I'm out of the loop! I was just on FB & a friend of mine shared a pic of people holding up a sign saying they don't want to know the Doctor's name. I didn't realize it would be so controversial! But, like you said, I doubt they'll actually reveal it. It's probably just when he tells River. And hopefully River smacks Clara for flirting with her Doctor ;)

@Psychic - Haha, that's awesome. Sadly, no one I'm around on a daily basis would get it, they'd just think I'd lost my mind :/

immaculate 04-23-2013 10:08 AM

Yeah, I really doubt they're actually going to reveal his name. They know that would ruin things for the fans.

As for Clara, I just saw on Facebook a theory that she is somehow related to Captain Jack. It would kind of make sense since Jack can't die (well, at least not until much much much later in his life).

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...49805606_n.jpg

Or maybe they aren't related and the Tardis just can't stand a paradox.

Thedollylala 04-23-2013 10:12 AM

I don't think river would smack anyone for flirting with the doctor I think they have a relationship that goes beyond being exclusive, she's talked about being with nestines with swappable heads lol. I honestly think she will flirt with Clara.

And yes I forgot about tally marks!! Gotta do that! I'm wearing my river song shirt already, I'm such a fan girl.

It's hard to see but there's an astronaut head sticking out of the water at the bottom. And 10 and 11s sonics coming out the hearts

Keep Moving Forward 04-23-2013 10:27 AM

I never thought about the connections between Jack & Clara both being paradoxes.... Interesting!

Yeah, I don't think River would slap her, I just want her to :D But as much as River loves the Doctor, I can't imagine she would really have any interest in anyone else. I know she's been involved with others, but her timeline is so crazy, who knows when that was? I'm a little too emotionally invested in the romantic goings-on in my favorite shows because I don't have my own love life :o

Love your shirt, btw!

Thedollylala 04-23-2013 10:35 AM

Oh no she loves that man and has/will given her life for his. I jus think sexually well I don't think she's exclusive to him and she gets his fasinatons with people like Clara, and I think she was the woman in the shop to give Clara the number to the tardis in tbosj, she knew that needed to happen and she forces fate that way, atleast that's my opinion
