Models often lie about their weight or height because photographers and agents have a preconceived notion about what a certain weight "looks like".

For instance, if you say you weigh 100-110 (you're automatically a 00), if you weigh 150 you're automatically a plus size model.

Never trust stats on head shots, portfolios, or websites.
My ex is a professional photographer. This is true.

I say, keep doing what your doing weight loss wise and get to where you want to be. Everyone here is going to jump down your throat if you mention a goal that is not the "norm" or "healthy" weight they think it should be. That's just the way this forum is as most here want to promote health rather than "trying to get super skinny". It comes from a good place, but gets a little much sometimes.

As for your modeling passion, you should always pursue your passion! Look for a photographer in your area that you love the work of and contact them for a shoot. You can definitely get a photographer that is just starting out and wants to build their own portfolio and get them done for free. Don't pay.

One of the most important things about being a model, besides looking great in photos obviously, is to be professional about it. Even if you are just starting out, don't be flaky. Show up, show up on time, with everything the photographer asks you to bring. Be versatile, bring tons of outfit changes, if you can do your own makeup that's a bonus. Have your own photoshoot ideas but be willing to work with the photographer creatively, don't just stand there hoping to look good. Be up front with what you will and will not do.

If you know good locations for a shoot, let the photographer know. Me and my ex were always looking for good locations and while some are obvious, some are tough to find. We found abandoned shipping buildings with brightly colored garage doors, an old sunken boat with an old cabin beside it that the owner let us shoot in front of (and even inside!), etc. If it's a male photographer, bring a friend. Don't go alone with anyone to an abandoned warehouse LOL!!!

Good luck! :-)

The other thing too is it really is true that the camera does add 10 to 20lbs... because I also have several friends who are actors and have been on soaps and TV shows... and they are so thin in person, but on TV they just look like they're a normal weight... which still never ceases to amaze me...
^^^^
This - I was thinking about this the other day and wondered WTH ? Why Why Why !!! Why DOES the camera put on extra poundage ?

Also, good luck with your pursuits. I have learned, albiet a little later in life, that I need to find out what is purposeful in my life and if it makes me (you) happy and doesn't hurt anyone else ---- Do what makes you happy !

I offhandedly said I was reconsidering my goal weight cause I have so much chunk left on me and I'm small framed and 120 is lowest I'd ever go and boom it blew up into this omg 120lbs is unhealthy thread!!!! I sort of expected it cause I have noticed that on this site there is quite a bit of paranoia surrounding slimmer weights. I'm not talking underweight numbers, but if a number is 5 or 10lbs below the 'norm' and 'average' people tend to go on these tangents about it. I don't imagine this a fun environment for people on the slimmer side of the weight scale. I imagine its partly culture and for people used to being large it can be difficult to imagine being healthy at the lower end of the norm for a height. Thats my ideas about why this thread turned the way it did lol.
I always find it funny how quick people are to jump all over someone with a lower (but still healthy) goal weight, often siting BMI saying that puts you at or near underweight (BTW as an example 5'7" and 120 pounds is still in NORMAL range). Yet when people want to "settle" for a weight that is still considered overweight all of a sudden BMI is outdated and useless and doesn't take body frame into account.

GOAL WEIGHTS ARE PERSONAL. No one derseves to be judged for them, especially when they don't have a goal of being unhealthy. If you're healthy at a higher BMI, that is GREAT!!!! If you are healthy at the lowest end or even a teeny bit into the underweight end, SUPER! Sometimes this site is only supportive as long as you don't want to be too small. UG! Just as some people have (or claim to have) very large frames, believe it or not some people have very small ones too. I ALWAYS thought I had a large frame and was "big boned". Turns out it was fat. GO figure. I actually have a very small frame, and have adjusted my goal weight several times according to this. Honestly, I will probably drop it again once I get to 130. This is uncharted territory for me so I have no idea where I'll end up. /rant

ANYWAY!!!!!!!!

This thread got me thinking yesterday so I started googling different models and actresses measurements and heights and weights. They vary so much depending on what site you find. I tend to think that any info out there on any model or actress is not accurate. Either the height is off or the weight is off or both. I wouldn't believe any of it unless I saw the person weighed and measured in front of me.

I have an answer for this. Optical flattening (it has to do with parallax). The way a camera lens operates, especially with flash, takes a three dimensions object and makes it, essentially, two dimensional to the eye. So much of the contouring of a real body is let, even if we can 'see' the curves and shadows as recorded, they don't register in our brains the same way.

This explains it quite well

Thanks... I knew there had to be a reasonable explanation... makes sense... But I swear I still think the camera makes me look "extra" bigger than other people... lol...
