Default Would you get plastic surgery?

I'm kind of embarrassed to talk to anyone about this, but I'm considering getting some liposuction...it'd be very expensive. My boyfriend said if I want to go that route he'll pay for it. Not because he wants me to change- he always tells me I look great, but he says he's willing to do anything to make me feel better because I've been moping around/don't want to go anywhere, etc.

Would you do it? Do you know anyone who has?

I wouldn't get liposuction personally but I would consider tummy tuck/skin removal surgery if I had a lot of loose skin. Or breast implants if mine got really droopy, or a reduction if they were so big they caused me discomfort. Or skin grafts if I got burned or something.

Well, you kind of need to give more details. Are you at goal weight? are you trying to lose weight? is this a new problem, etc.

I would consider plastic surgery if something interfered with my quality of life, but other than that, probably not.

And..., unless your case is extreme, my guess (with no other information to go on as you provided so little), would be that you would still be unhappy and would find something else to be unhappy about.

I just find it hard to believe that liposuction could solve the problem of not wanting to go out and would perk you up - long term.

I'm about 140 pounds and I'm 5'9*. The reason I don't want to go out is because I don't like how I look. When I was thinner, I was a lot more social and confident. I do plan to slowly lose a few more pounds, but my stomach is always the last place it comes off. I just think some body contouring (getting rid of the extra smush on my belly area) could help improve my idea of myself.

*I'm aware that this is perfectly within the "normal" BMI range, I'm not suffering from BDD or anything like that, I just store most of my fat in my belly area. Instead of a pear shape, I'm more of an apple lol!

Not wanting to go out because you don't like how you look is an issue I'd consider talking to a professional about. Lots of people 50,100,150,200 pounds and more overweight go out and do things.

Even if you were carrying 50 extra pounds, that wouldn't be a reason to stay in and mope around.

I'm a big fan of counseling in general, and in a case like this, I think it'd be a good idea to focus on why you're moping rather than jump to a surgical fix.

I'm concerned about you not wanting to go anywhere. As you said yourself, you're at a perfectly healthy weight so not wanting to go anywhere is kind of extreme. I mean, I weigh the same amount as you but I'm a whopping 6 inches shorter so we can all do the math here - I'm bordering on overweight. I'll still go out, I just won't run around wearing belly baring tops or swimsuits.

To answer your question, if I got to my goal weight and was hanging out there consistently, I might consider it if I wanted to suck out a bit of extra fat. But that's a big might, I most likely wouldn't bother.

I do appreciate the concern, all of you, but I'm not in need of counseling. When I said I don't want to go out, I didn't mean I'm literally stuck in the house- I go to work and school and the grocery store and everything. I just don't go to the beach and things like that. I realize other people who are heavier than me do that, I would just like to look better in a bathing suit.

I don't think getting lipo will magically make me a different person, but I DO want to wear bikinis and tummy tops and stuff like that. It's purely a vanity thing.

I'm also well into the normal range and have considered abdominoplasty due to severe skin wrinking in my lower abdomen after 2 large babies.

For an issue that can be corrected like yours, I don't think I would. With extensive weight training and precise dieting, it can likely be corrected without surgery.

I'd get lipo if I could afford it.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel your best!

I'm the same ht & wt and my stomach is still a bit of a "problem" area... I actually just went for a consult with a plastic surgeon recently about having some lipo... he told me that I could definitely achieve the "look" that I wanted and that he could probably take off about 5 lbs. which of course was music to my ears... but what really has me seriously considering it, is the fact that it would permanently remove those fat cells... which is what really sounds very, very attractive to me...

But actually after giving it some serious consideration I decided to stick with the diet and exercise for another six months or so, and then if I'm still not quite where I want to be I'm probably going to go ahead with it at some point...

They say you should try to get as much weight off as possible first for best results but you're already at a good weight for your height so you do what you want just as long as you're doing it for you and not anyone else. If your BF is willing to pay then go for it, just do research on your Doc of choice. If I can't get rid of my tummy pooch eventually (there's only so may hours I can spend at the gym) I will be looking into having lipo. I want to have Water Lipo though which is much less invasive. Maybe check into that.

If you have it done I'd appreciate before and after pics.

ETA: I'd kill to be 5'9"...my weight problem would be over. Seems my actual problem is shortness, not fatness.

I didnt want to go out and do stuff at my heavier weight, I did my usual stuff just not the extras. Changing my body through diet and exercise helped me to change that attitude. I wonder if it's because I feel I look great now or because of the energy I have gained. Changing your body might help you get out of your slump too. The problem will be if it doesn't but I am sure you know yourself and your patterns.
Now plastic surgery I think I would have a tummy tuck maybe. I am trying the 30 day shred right now to try and get rid of my baby pooch. I might also consider a boob job because mine have been through weight loss too many times so they droop too much and have shrunk dramatically.I am bench pressing and doing pushups to help with that. Now With our budget there is no way I can have surgery so I have challenged myself to change my body through exercise. I was an apple before too but have changed into a banana now, so I think you can make changes without surgery but if you can afford it why not. Oh not weight related but I want to start saving to have an eye lift in a few years, can't seem to kick the bags no matter what I try, and I have tried it all.
