Default So disgusting!

Has anyone seen the Rex Reed review of the new Melissa McCarthy movie? I am glad that there are so many people who are speaking out against his remarks. I hope this makes others consider the comments they make when they think others can't hear them. Rude and hurtful!

Sometimes I really wonder about people. How unhappy does a person have to be to feel it is ok to be so rude about another human being?

I can understand not liking the movie, and as a critic writing that you didn't enjoy it for whatever reason. But, name calling an actress is crossing a line. It's hurtful and it make me angry.

.... Well, after reading that it just reaffirms my distaste for movie reviews in general. I don't need some idiot telling me what he thought of a movie, or its cast "(cacophonous, tractor-sized Melissa McCarthy.....Mr. Bateman and his female hippo .....)". Clearly this guy needs to be sterilized (or shot in the face... is shot in the face too much??...) to prevent breeding of more idiots.

I will watch movies, then form my own opinions thank you very much!

Yes, I read an article on this issue this morning. Apparently he dislikes any overweight or obese person. He did the same thing to Seth Rogen. It's unnecessary and shows what a twit he is.

Fat people are the only "OK" people to openly discriminate against in the US. Imagine if someone said an equivalent about an Chinese person, or a native American? or a black person?

And I think because we are on a "we are too fat as a nation" kick, that it gives more power to hate/dislike overweight people.

The added thing to that is people think that being overweight is a choice. This is something you have control over. You can't control being autistic or dark skinned or short or tall, but we can control weight.

Of course, easier said than done, right? ONLY people who have been overweight (seriously overweight) know the battles and scars that led to being overweight or remaining overweight. And, I'm sad to say, some former obese people lose their empathy for their overweight friends.

I hope to NEVER be obese again, but I will always remember how trapped I felt. How hopeless I felt. I almost feel lucky that I broke free of it and I think I was only able to because enough other positive forces were at work in my life.

Wow. What an interesting look into him as a person. This reminds me of the Marie Claire blog about "fatties getting a room" which was written about McCarthy's show "Mike and Molly".

Berry is right, we're the last group left that can be acceptably discriminated against, and the fact that health is an issue makes it that much more acceptable in a lot of people's eyes. So what if she's had to trade in on her weight a little to showcase her remarkable talent? It's no different than any other black actor that had to suffer through "coon" routines 100 years ago.

This guy is a loser.

I find it sad and depressing that he would feel the need to attack her weight, as if that should have any "bearing" on her acting talent.

I personally love her, and it angers me that he could be such a low life and steep to calling her such filth as he did.

I also do not put any faith in critics myself, as often my taste is a direct 180 from their's anyway.

It is appalling.

Apparently all he took away from the sex and the city movie was revulsion at Sarah Jessica Parker's mole. He's hardly Gene Siskel.

Wow what a piece of work!! Melissa is a beautiful and talented actress. I just love her in everything from Gilmore girls to bridesmaids. Does the fact that she is not a size 2 mean she should just hide out in a closet and stop persuing her dreams?

Don't you all know that "movie critics" are just actor's without talent? I haven't listened to a single critic since Siskel & Ebert raved about a movie on their show years ago...I think H & I were just married...we rented it. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! I never go with critics reviews. I go to websites & see what REAL PEOPLE are saying. I get more imput & I haven't been disappointed as of yet.
Now, let me get to Rex Reed...what a jerk! I wanted to call him something else but it would be ! Yes, she may be overweight but so is about half of the US adult population! Not that it's right or healthy, but making nasty remarks about someone for being overweight you're making comments about most all of us. I think she is cute, funny & has more talent in her little toe than he does in his whole pathetic body.
He needs a reality check. Talent isn't about appearances, it's about ability. Maybe we should send him tubs of lard with notes written with Sharpies that says, "This tub has more class & talent than you!"

"Fat people are the only "OK" people to openly discriminate against in the US."

Don't forget about Catholics - another easy target.

This article made me sick. I can't believe his editors let this go in to publication.
