I can't even begin to describe the insane popularity amongst the mom set where I live. It's taken over.

Anyone see the 50 Shades of Suck Tumblr?

Nearly all my female friends are going nutso over it and they are all mothers.

I guess I"d just call it porn to chicks or something. There are tons of middle aged women who are not mom's and they enjoy it just as much. :)

I FINALLY forced myself to finish the 1st book and I wasn't happy with it at all, I asked MrN to buy me the 2nd book and I think it'll go to waste as I don't think I can force myself to read the 2nd book let alone buy the 3rd and read it as well.

The writimng is poor, the story is non-existant and the sexy isn't really that kinky ... spanking isn't really THAT kinky.

My thoughts EXACTLY!!! It's not kinky at all!!! So he likes to spank her, don't most men like that?

I hate that it has been generalized as mommy porn, as to say its for moms and moms only. If I, as a woman, could write a "porn for chicks book" It would be nothing like this!!

Asking my wife tonight about the poor grammar she said it was difficult to get by it being a teacher. I asked her what she thought about it and she said she didn't like it enough to read any more in the series...

and...

it pissed her off the gal in it had more orgasms in 3 days than she has had in her whole life...

I guess that puts the ball back in my court!

Removed content. I had put links to three erotica books I had published by Black Lace and Hodder & Stoughton but I was mortified that there was no feedback or response (a little hurt to be honest). Anyway, I had laid myself on the line there, I do not usually feel comfortable with revealing my writing history and, in the absence of a response I decided to remove the content of my post.

A little vulnerable feeling after getting excited about sharing

Sinoia 07-12-2012 12:07 PM

Bump!

astrophe 07-13-2012 10:17 PM

I haven't read it -- reviews were poor and a friend of mine read all of them and told me the reviews were right. Poorly written, bad edit job, etc. She wishes she could get that time of her life BACK to go spend it reading something better.

Better off hunting down collections edited by Violet Blue or Alison Tyler.

EZMONEY 07-16-2012 07:24 AM

The author was ay a local Costco this past week-end autographing her books...

they stopped the line at 1,200 and sent tons of people home...

it was a 2.5 hour wait at that time.

She's doing something right $$$.

SoCalCowgirl 07-16-2012 11:44 AM

so I got to like the first 80 pages of book one, I didn't even make it to the sex scenes, but I just had to put it down. I didn't feel any sort of real connection between Grey and Ana and I just felt like there was no real story going on, just dialogue, and I found the story to be pretty unbelievable also. I wanted to get further in the book, but I just gave up, I had a lot higher expectations with all of the reviews, but this book was a thumbs down for me.

Sinoia 07-17-2012 01:49 AM

Try this one.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Housesha...2503984&sr=8-2

excerpt from a review:

- they meet when Rupe, the gorgeous sytems analyst (I know, it looks like an oxymoron), moves into one of the rooms advertised for rent by Tine, widow of a prominent artist. And Tine, at least, knows who she's cybering with - some of the time: I will admit there's a twist in the tail. I enjoyed this book. Before the erotica kicks in there is actually quite a moving portrayal of Tine's efforts to get on with her life which is good writing in any genre. There are great food scenes. There's a sub-plot about stolen art, and some interesting, sexy characters doing interesting, sexy things. This was not half bad. And if you weren't convinced that cybersex is "real" sex, this book might just make you reconsider.

collingwood 07-17-2012 07:00 PM

I was curious about the books and I'm not a reader. I find I get bored reading unless it's about something that really interests me. So I found a copy of an ebook and converted it to an audiobook or mp3 file which the first book goes for a bit over 16 hours. I play it in the car driving to and from work and have been enjoying it :p Now I'm curious about erotic stories and want to find more. I guess it gives me a better understanding too about what women think about. There is a lot of detail on minor things, but those things aren't so minor to women. The biting of the lip, the slight touch...etc

I once posted a romantic and erotic true story and was critiqued on how it was written. Now I understand women want more detail, where is a guy just wants to get to the juicy parts minus the detail.

I hope I continue to enjoy the books and can't wait to see the movie. I want to know how different the movie will be and I'll be able to put a face to the names.

katkitten 07-17-2012 07:03 PM

I cannot bring myself to read these books. I just can't imagine liking them and havent got around to trying. However, I AM intrigued by the wide range of women that seem to like them so I will probably break down and read them eventually.

Thkdiff 07-17-2012 11:49 PM

Hate to say it, but another overly glorified chick flick. Not a fan of chick flicks because I don't call them chick flicks. Sex? Go read the Karma Sutra, or a romance novel.

scout83 07-18-2012 01:24 AM

Eh, I read it because a friend passed along her books when she was finished. The writing is, indeed, terrible, but it was so bad, I thought it was fun. We had great laughs talking over some of the writer's terrible habits. There were a couple "hot" aspects to the story, and I get a kick out of every person in America denying that because, as it's been mentioned, she must be doing something right. Someone's buying and reading and recommending these books.

And I agree that the plot is just unbelievable to the point of laughability. Again, I find this a bit fun (campy, maybe). I mean the three books basically take place over, like, two months. Everything is so dramatic all the time. I won't give anything away, but given all that happens, it's just hysterical. I laughed a lot during the reading. Wouldn't recommend anyone run out and buy these books, but I did my part and passed them along.

collingwood 07-18-2012 05:37 AM

I was sent this today... not sure if you will get all the lingo/slang but if not, let me know and I'll translate for you :p

CrystalZ10 07-18-2012 09:47 AM

Never read them, but my boss did. I was about to buy them when she warned me about the nature of the books which was really nice of her. lol

I am baffled by everyone obsessing over these books! Everyone at work seems to be talking about them, but its a lot of complaining over her writing, repetition, etc. Than the same people will say, "I have to get her other two books. I heard they were better." They get the second one and complain again, and talk about how the 3rd one has to be the best. I just don't get it. lol

I can promise I won't read them, but I did get a laugh out of what collingwood just posted! lol

I saw your links and it looked interesting to me. There were just no copies available to order. I would have read excerpts but didn't see if offered in the links. Don't feel vulnerable, feel accomplished, you are a published author! :)

mimsyborogoves 07-23-2012 11:49 PM

Haha, I couldn't have read this book at a worse time. Might be why I'm having such a hard time dealing with it. =/

3FCer344892 07-25-2012 11:24 AM

My Barry Manilow fanfiction is totally better than these books! :P

Seriously, though, the "my inner goddess" crap got unbearable near the end of the first novel, so I quickly finished it and read "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green. Twice. Read that instead. It's not erotica, but it's amazing.

That's an insult to chick flicks. :p

The radio show I listen to aired a preview/clip of the audiobook, and the actress sounds like a young teenager. Listening to that short 2 minute clip was AWFUL. The horrible grammar absolutely killed me.

Candeka 07-25-2012 01:34 PM

These books are all over facebook, my co-workers are talking about it and pretty much everyone else I know has jumped on the bandwagon. I have not read it yet and only ever heard it described as "mommy porn".

I did however enjoy the Twilight saga and was able to easily read through it (well still rolling my eyes at some of the very stupid parts and bad writing). Maybe thats a sign I will be able to put up with this authors style of writing as well? But, I also I have like 4 others series I am in the middle of (J.R Ward's Brotherhood, Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunters, and Christine Feehan's series, all which are amazing!). By the time I get a chance to read this series, I'm sure the movie will be out!!

mimsyborogoves 07-25-2012 04:44 PM

I heard today they're making a movie out of this... I smell a blog entry coming up for me, lol.

krampus 07-26-2012 12:50 PM

Read some excerpts today and LOLed a lot

Beach Patrol 07-27-2012 04:16 PM

I have a couple of friends who've raved about the 50SoG books and constantly tell me "oh you'd LOVVVVVEEEEE them!!!" - but then I have some other friends (whose opinions on books, music, movies, etc. I trust MUCH MORE) who've told me "eh, don't bother"...

I've read some excerpts. I have to say, my PERSONAL OPINION is ... these women who are swooning over these books .... quite obviously they have NEVER engaged in a threesome...or gotten a simple spanking or some light bondage... never had even a timid affair or gotten a little happy from a big vibrator! OR kissed a girl...

I mean, the books are so "light weight"... very.... VANILLA, if you will.

Just say'n! http://forums.49ers.com/messageboard...-whistle-2.gif

tessendicott 07-27-2012 05:26 PM

I think I may be one of the very few women on this planet who has no desire to read these books. However, with that being said, I also have no desire to see Magic Mike. It's not that I don't like raunchy dirty sex, but I can't get into literature with it. Just seems to me like one step up from every cheap romance novel ever written. Kudos to other people being able to enjoy it though. I've also heard there's some really twisted sex in it, like wrapping boobs until they're purple, which is disgusting.

Smiling_Sara 07-27-2012 05:28 PM

I just finished the first book, and I must say, the ending of the first book left me feeling pretty disgusted. :(

That being said, I will probably read the next one and hope it gets better, or explains a little more as to the reasoning of what happened at the end of book 1

pnkrckpixikat 07-27-2012 07:32 PM

I've read the first book and part of the second. I'll likely eventually finish book 2 and read book 3 eventually. The sex gets boring and repetitive to the point i skip it half the time. I also don't find it believable they are both up for sex so often, I'm sorry my bits would be SORE.

It makes sense that she wrote twilight fanfic prior to this as both me and my friend spent all our time reading texting comparisons to each other between FSoG drivel and Myers drivel.

tessendicott 07-27-2012 10:04 PM

I was just talking about this thread with my boyfriend and about how I know I wouldn't be into them and he pulled up this video, it's the guy who voiced Duke Nukem, it's hilarious.

smalltownok 07-27-2012 10:56 PM

Although I had seen this book lingering around and being talked about online, I had no clue until today what it was even about. I am a huge reader.. I always have a book within arms reach. I know now though after talking with someone about it and now reading this thread that I'm completely uninterested! Not my type of reading material that's for sure!

nelie 07-28-2012 10:22 AM

Most friends that I know that are heavy readers and read romance type novels have commented on facebook that these are definitely not books they'd recommend. I don't know what books they would recommend but I heard they were pretty bad and after enduring a couple of the Twilight books, I'll not put myself through reading a bad book for a while.

CanadianCutie 07-28-2012 03:05 PM

Nelie, I'm totally with you on the Twilight thing. I read the first book, got about 1/3 of the way through the second one and just couldn't take it anymore. I even tried the audiobooks, but the way the voice actor/reader said Bella, just drove me bonkers. The 50 Shades books were actually better written than Twilight, though still badly written.

mimsyborogoves 07-28-2012 06:07 PM

I am with y'all where the sex gets boring after awhile. I'd tell them to go get a room, but well, they do, lol. But I mean really, who the **** has sex that much? And who the **** has sex pretty much wherever they please without anything noticing or thinking anything of it?

And why does everything have to be so damn lavish and fancy? I mean I get it, Christian Grey is a wealthy SOB and he's got all this money to just piss away, but I mean good lord, he doesn't even take Ana into consideration when he buys her stuff! If it were me, I'd be like, "Buy me all the clothes you want, but I'm going to the store, and I'm picking it out!" Ana could take advantage of that, but she has to be all typical female, "WAH YOU'RE CONTROLLING ME BUT I'M JUST GONNA SIT HERE AND WHINE ABOUT IT INSTEAD OF MAKING THIS WORK!"

I love this book and I hate it. I love it because it's addicting. I hate it because all of this stuff is so stupid and unrealistic and it's beyond a fantasy; it's really like, "Get real!"

You've hit the nail on the head here, it is fantasy. People who are gaga over these books are into the "dream" part of it.

Lisa_C 07-29-2012 04:47 PM

I borrowed the book, read it and actually enjoyed it. It read more like a romance novel to me.

Muffins 07-30-2012 10:18 AM

I'm on chapter 9, The girl has stayed a Mr Grey's apartment and she has just phoned her friend to say that she is ok.

Muffins 07-30-2012 10:20 AM

I must say I dont see what all the fuss is about, are we really that easy to please in these hard economic times ?
