I like "Supersize vs Superskinny"
I like how it breaks things down for the people on it, literally puts in their face what they are eating each week, what damage it is doing by being on the extreme end, either by not eating enough or over eating. They also go into the mentality of food issues, the strive for the 'perfect' look.
I find it to be more informative than most and appreciate that the people that go on this show are given a healthy diet plan for 3 months, return to the 'house' and the changes they go through are shown. It's not drastic changes, but it's life long sustainable ones focussed on the health of the individual.
I actually love TBL. I think it's inspiring for a lot of people who've lost all hope or who've given up on losing weight for themselves. To see that 200-500lb men and women can and did do something about it truly makes you feel like you can too. Many of the contestants are moms, dads, grandparents, students, etc. that can relate to the general public. I also appreciate that it shows how some of the contestants are able to stop taking so many medications and live a normal life without the fear of dying of obesity related illnesses or for fear of rejection (IE: not fitting in an airplane seat, not keeping up with their kids, etc).
Seeing that success empowers a lot of people to take that first step to getting healthy. I'm a realist in that I know I can't expect the results they get on that show for myself, and I'd hope that most people who watch it would say the same since most cannot draw a parallel of the lives of the contestants with their own life (IE: the ability; time and resource for a personal trainer, outfitted gym, 5 free hours to work out each day; doctors on hand; food purchased for them).
I don't love all the product placement, but hey-it's TV, what are ya gonna do?
I do think they are a bit on the extreme end in their methods, but the contestants know what they're signing up for. In the end, someone is gonna win a lot of money, so there's going to be some gameplay. I think the network plays that up for the drama factor.
If I could do it, I would personally go on it to lose the weight without worrying about the money, but I think the network wouldn't allow that because then it wouldn't be as "entertaining". I have learned some helpful things about nutrition and exercise in the years I've watched it. I also have the BL Wii fit game and it's great. It helps develop a balanced nutrition plan along with excercise based on your ability and current level of fitness that moves with you as you lose and gain more stamina.
Along with that, I've watched Ruby, but honestly, she got on my nerves a bit. I am really excited to check out the new A&E show too.
Have y'all watched Supersize Me? The documentary about McDonalds? If not, I highly suggest it. It really opened my eyes not only about McDonalds, but about fast food, processed and prepackaged foods in general and how they affect your health. I have Netflix on my Wii too and there's a good few documentaries about weightloss that I'm looking forward to catching soon.
I was JUST thinking about this! I had caught "I used to be fat" on MTV. I was wondering if those kinds of shows are "necessary" now because of the childhood obesity problem. Another of there shows, "MADE", used to feature kids who wanted to lose weight. Maybe because those requests were so high, they started a new show.
MTV also sometimes shows "Fat Camp" about Camp Shane in upstate NY that is for overweight kids.
One thing i've never understood is why they send people home. If they're all on there to lose weight and get fit and healthy, why send people home? Why cant they just all stay and still pick the winner via most percentage lost? I've always thought that sending people home seemed counter-productive to their overall message.
I love weight loss programs! My faves are Supersize vs. Superskinny, Super Slim Me, Big Meets Bigger, You Are What You Eat... probably more but I can't remember. We don't get the American ones over here, but they all sound fun, haha.
I did like that show....was it more to love where the bachelor was a big guy and the women were big?
I liked the premise of the show, but the guy seemed super creepy. Something about him just irked me.
I like the MTV show "I Used to be Fat".....I wish, I soooo freaking wish someone had helped me to lose this weight before I went to college. I feel really badly that I never got to experience being an energetic teen and 20-something who was thin and could go to clubs and date normal people. Nope, I was morbidly obese and dating weird dudes 10 years older than myself....sigh.

you have a lot of shows we don't ...
Super Slim Me. Never heard of it. Big Meets Bigger.. wow.
I'm glad it's nation wide like Football to get the weight down. It's not healthy.

I do like the UK tv shows...especially the one where they show what a super skinny person eats, and a super heavy person eats, and they have to swap meals for like a week or two. very interesting to watch AND you get that cute accent!
I really wish I could watch Fat March cause it is sooo inspiring. But can't find it anywhere.
