Okay, I have dubbed this show "the train wreck" because even though I don't want to watch it... I can't help myself!! SO-- I sat down and watched episode number two.

I can't believe they showed parts of the surgery itself. I wasn't expecting that, I thought they would just show the before and after parts. I still question the doctor doing these surgeries. I really feel like this doctor should be investigated-- some of the stuff he does can't be ethical, in my opinion.

I also watched episode 2 and I feel bad for the girl that went home she actually had a reason for cosmetic surgery. I watched with my husband and he was telling me why in the world do these women need to go to such measures? most don't need the surgeries! LOL

How is it easier for a girl who *could* be a few pounds overweight to get lipo/skin removal and deal with the recovery than it would be to just hit the gym? She looked 5-10lbs overweight at the very MOST.

I think it's sending a very bad message to women (and people in general) that says, "If you're not happy with something, just get surgery."

And what are the women saying about themselves? They're adults. It's their choice, I suppose. But exploiting myself so I could get plastic surgery? Not for me. A lot of the women looked perfectly fine.

You're totally right, and the scary thing is, she could literally die from the surgery. Kayne West's mother died from routine liposuction. I don't understand why any woman would rationally think that it's better to risk her life rather than spend a few hours and weeks in the gym.

And in regards to plastic surgery, for the most part, I am against it, unless there is a reason for it. Like breast reduction. Or in some cases, nose jobs. But that's for people who need it. These women are simply insecure and looking for a free handout, and for a way to feel better about themselves. But the thing is, in the long run, they won't feel better about themselves. They'll still feel empty and depressed inside even if they reach their goal weight, if they get all of the fat sucked out, if they fix their "butt face" if they fix their acne scars, etc, because most of those women seem depressed to me. Just about all of them seem to me to have body image issues, and the depression stems from those issues. They won't feel better about themselves from getting plastic surgery, they will feel better about themselves through therapy and counseling.

I remember watching an episode of True Life, and it was about plastic surgery. One of the women had BDD, and was convinced that she was ugly, and got plastic surgery. She was happy.... for awhile. Then she found something else to hate about herself. it's the same as any psychological disorder, alcohol addiction, drug addiction, food addiction.... I've been there, I feel better for a little bit, and then it comes crashing down. I feel like crap after bingeing or drinking a lot. And it only numbs it for awhile and then you feel worse than you did before. I can guarantee it that all of the women on this show who do get plastic surgery will only feel good for a while and go back to feeling miserable about themselves.

it takes a lot to finally learn how to love oneself, and changing your outside won't fix it. It's only after you've fixed your inside that changing your outside will allow you to permanently feel better.

This show is problematic because not only does it emphasize how important it is to get married (ostracizing single people) but it's also heteronormative. Here our gay community is, battling for the right to be legally married, and you have people like this who only care about how they look on their wedding day. Or having a huge expensive wedding. I wish they'd realize that it's just one day. Sure, your wedding day is important, but I wish people would stop treating it as the be-all and end-all of their lives.

And I don't think I need to touch on how it perceives body image. Healthy body image is non-existent on this show.
